Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
I let go of the railing beside me and got ready to face death.

However, there was a huge explosion from the bottom of the ship. My stomach lurched violently, and the ship didn't continue to sink.

However, there was a piercing pain in my stomach, and I felt something warm flowing out from between my legs.

My body was already completely submerged in seawater, and I could only breathe with difficulty if I stood on my tiptoes and threw my head back.

The storm was getting bigger, and the lifeboats were in danger as the wind continued to blow.

I could hear continuous screams and cries for help.

In the corner of my eye, I saw that Michael was still holding Naomi firmly in his arms. I felt like a dying fish as I hung right under the surface. Seawater kept flooding my nostrils, and I didn't even have the strength to cough.

Finally, a wave crashed over us, and the ship shuddered and sank. I used my final remaining strength to flail around before I gave up the struggle and let the waves push me further and further away.

The wind and the rain slapped my face relentlessly, but through my blurred vision, I seemed to see a boat rushing to our rescue.

The boat had just reached the lifeboats when Michael, who had proclaimed grandly earlier that he would guarantee the safety of the other military dependents, immediately scrambled onto the boat with Naomi in his arms.

He moved so quickly that the lifeboat almost capsized.

His actions immediately provoked the crowd on the lifeboats to anger.

Their voices carried to me on the wind.

The older woman who had spat at me said directly, "Commander! No matter how worried you are about your supposed younger sister, you should get on the boat in an orderly manner, shouldn't you?"

The others complained as well.

"That's right! We almost capsized!"

"Your pregnant wife is soaking in the water, but all you cared about was saving your so-called sister! Who knows whether she really is your sister or not!"

It was unclear who had said it, but it infuriated Michael at once.

"You don't know anything! Mimi is a doctor, and her hand is injured. If it gets wet and becomes seriously infected, she'll never be able to hold a scalpel again! To her, that would be worse than losing her life!

"Now you're worried about my wife? When there was only one space left on the lifeboat, why didn't any of you try to let her have it, since you're all so righteous?"

Everyone fell silent at what Michael had said. They didn't dare to say anything else.

Only the security officer looked in my direction and tried again to save me.

"Mrs. Yates seems to have had a miscarriage. There's a lot of blood around her. If we don't save her now, she'll sink!"

The security officer was very anxious, but Michael scolded him curtly, "It's just a bit of blood. Miscarriages don't happen that easily.

"I'm going to emphasize this one last time. Take care of the other military dependents. She can swim, and she'll be fine!"

The security officer was named Damon Chesney, and his face had turned bright red. However, he was still rowing the lifeboat toward me.

However, Michael threatened him before he had even managed to move three feet.

"Damon, don't forget who you have to thank for where you are today. I won't let you risk everyone's lives the way she did.

"Remember, I brought you out of the mountains and to your current position, and I can make you go back to where you came from to continue being a farm laborer!"

When Michael saw that Damon looked obstinate and refused to give in, he frowned and forced out the words.

"You might not be worried, but if your 70-year-old mother found out that you were fired for killing over a dozen people with your obstinacy, what would she think?"

Damon's hands froze in the water.

I didn't want to die like that, so I tried my best to cry for help. However, as soon as I opened my mouth, seawater flooded my throat, and I was unable to make a sound.

When I saw the rescue boat get further and further away, I felt despair.

The roar of the boat came to my ears through the noise of the storm, and my stomach hurt so much that I couldn't feel anything else.

I was hanging onto life by a fragile thread, and when the waves rose up once more and slammed me hard into the sea, a long ribbon of red trailed out behind me.

The feeling of suffocation in my chest grew stronger.

Finally, I gave up the struggle and stopped breathing.

Before the next wave brought me up to the surface, I faded completely out of consciousness.

A week after that, the ship set sail on its return journey. In order to avoid running into Michael, my mother and I left quietly by the back door.I only felt reassured when I sat on the ship and heard the sound of it starting up.The island was getting further and further away from me, but the memory of it was still terrifying. I drew in a sharp intake of breath. My mother sensed my emotions and pulled me into her arms.I fell into a quiet sleep in her warm embrace. I didn't know how much time had passed when I vaguely heard a loud commotion. I jolted awake in my mother's arms when I heard Micahel's voice. I opened my eyes and saw that all the people on the ship were pressed against the windows and looking outside. An ominous feeling came over me at once.Just as I had expected, a familiar voice rang out from outside. "Leah!"Through the crowd, I saw Michael in pursuit of us in a small boat. He stood at the helm, and the wind on the sea was so strong that it made him wobbl

Michael looked around, and he panicked when he ascertained that Naomi was no longer beside him and had disappeared. He immediately ran toward the beach, but he had only gone a few steps before he turned abruptly and almost fell down. "Leah, we'll talk when I get back. I promise that I'll explain things to you when I get back!"He disappeared, looking as if a great burden had been lifted from his shoulders. I didn't go to the beach to watch. I knew without thinking that Naomi was up to her old tricks again. She had always enjoyed acting pitifully and slandering me. Now that someone had seen through her first move, she would have to go to extremes. My mother took me to the other side of the island. She said that my father had left instructions saying that there was a rest stop there. It was a house that he had built on short notice when he had come to guard the place in the past. The house had been abandoned for a long time, but it would be okay to stay in for a couple of day

I was about to stop my mother, but she was one step ahead of me. "When Naomi got married, you jumped into a lake in despair to take your own life. It was Leah who hauled you out of that lake, although the temperature was below freezing! She was injured and can never swim again."You had a high fever, and the roads were blocked because of the heavy snow. Leah took care of you whole-heartedly. She said that your parents had once saved her life, and she couldn't abandon you, no matter what."You were delirious, and you took advantage of her like a beast. She was worried that you wouldn't be able to bear the truth, and she's been suffering in silence ever since. How much do you know about the pain she's gone through?" My mother accused Michael in a tearful voice, and the scars in my heart tore open once more. "After that, you knelt in front of us and swore on your dead parents' names that you would take responsibility for Leah and that you'd protect her and take care of her. "Loo

Michael fell to the ground, his face draining of blood. He looked at my flat stomach in shock, and there was panic in his eyes. "H-How could that be?" He started to reach out to touch it while he spoke, but he stopped out of fear.I dodged him contemptuously and dusted off my clothes without saying anything else. My mother wiped away her tears, her heart aching because of how frail I looked.Michael was rooted helplessly to the spot, but he soon regained his arrogance. "Even if it really is gone, it's all your own fault. If you hadn't insisted on going to your prenatal checkup that day, the ship wouldn't have been delayed, and we would never have run into the storm."It's a good thing you only lost a child. If the entire ship had sunk into the sea, your death wouldn't have been enough to make up for it."The onlookers who had come to watch us began muttering among themselves. A little girl who was about five or six years old hugged her mother and began crying loudly. "Mom

I seemed to have been in a deep sleep for a very long time, and the image of Michael pointing and yelling at me on Naomi's wedding day appeared in my mind."I don't know why you're so shameless! Why did you have to throw yourself at me and marry me? If you hadn't interfered, Mimi would never have left me and married someone else! You wanted me, didn't you? Fine! I'll grant your wish!"That night left me pregnant. After that was the scene of how I had been pushed into the sea in my past life just before I was about to give birth.I was cold and trembling all over. When his hands reached out toward me, my eyes snapped open. I was drenched in sweat, and I was very jittery. When I turned and saw my mother, tears streamed down my cheeks. My mother grabbed my hand and kept blaming herself for not protecting me properly. I felt deep regret when I remembered how hopelessly in love I had been and how I had forced Michael to marry me by threatening to take my own life. The doctor sai
