My wife was a surgeon. She saved plenty of lives in her career. However, the only person she failed to save was me. When I was involved in an accident with her long-time crush, she immediately saved him instead. I had been dead for three months, and that was when she realized the person who had been messaging her during this time was not me and started to panic.

Chapter 1

After I died, I was unable to cut my ties with the mortal world and turned into a spirit that stayed by the side of my wife, Lori Levaine.

Wailing was heard in the hospital's corridors.

Just an hour ago, a fatal car accident happened on a major bridge over the river in the city. Dozens of cars had slammed into each other. It was a gruesome sight.

Every doctor in the city rushed over to save lives, including Lori.

I tried my best to hold back the gurgling blood in my throat as I lay in a pool of blood. I felt relieved the moment I saw Lori.

However, the next second, my heart sank.

Lori had seen me lying in the pool of blood, but she passed right by me to get to Bryce Fallon, her long-time crush.

She helped Bryce up. I had never seen her looking so anxious and concerned for someone else.

I was covered in blood. I opened my mouth, trying to tell her that I was hurt as well, but the moment I tried to say something, blood kept gushing from my mouth.

When I looked up once more, Lori had helped Bryce into an ambulance.

I did not want to die alone there.

It took everything I had to call out to her. "Lori…"

Lori turned back to look coldly at me. "It's just a little blood from your mouth. Bryce has suffered broken bones all over. He needs me more than you. I know what you're trying to say. Just wait there. Someone else will be here soon to save you."

She slammed the ambulance door shut right in front of me and disappeared from my sight with Bryce.

It was just a little blood? Lori had no idea that there was a steel bar sticking out of my back. It had run through my body. I was about to die.

If she had only paid a little more attention to me, she would have seen it, but she did not because she was too focused on Bryce.

However, none of this was important anymore.

After all, what was there for an almost dying person to fight for?

There were not enough beds in the hospital.

After Lori was done with Bryce's surgery, she moved him to a temporary bed in the hospital corridor.

Bryce was covered in bandages and looked extremely pale. Lori was sad to see him that way.

He said hoarsely to Lori, "I'm fine now. You should check in on Chad. His wounds looked serious too…"

Lori frowned when she heard my name.

She replied nonchalantly, "You don't need to worry over someone who is always throwing a jealous fit. Taking care of yourself is your priority."

Bryce remained silent for two seconds. A thought crossed his mind, and he said to Lori, "This is my fault. If it wasn't for me, you wouldn't have gotten into a fight and ended up in the middle of a divorce."

He was right.

Right before the accident, Lori and I were about to get divorced.

Lori and I got married because of a marriage alliance between our families. Bryce was her classmate in university.

I had known all along that Lori had no feelings for me, but we ended up getting married because of family pressure.

After we got married, I tried my best to play the part of a good husband.

I thought that if I worked hard enough on our marriage, I would one day replace Bryce in her heart.

However, all that changed when Bryce returned from overseas.

Bryce had left the country when Lori and I got married. Lori was the first person he called when he returned.

After that call, everything changed.

I was Lori's husband, but she spent most of her time with Bryce.

Before the accident, we got into a big fight. She slammed the door after our fight.

After that, I got a call from Bryce, who wanted to meet and talk.

I did not expect to get into an accident while on my way to meet Bryce.

What was even more unexpected was my subsequent death from the accident.

I snapped out of it. I saw Lori tuck Bryce into bed before saying softly to him, "This isn't your fault. Chad and I are different people. He's highly suspicious and sensitive. He doesn't understand me. It was our mutual decision to get a divorce. This has nothing to do with you."
