Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
Lori's words drew a bitter, hollow laugh from me. I never knew she thought of me this way.

A nurse ran over anxiously to Lori with my identification card in her hand.

She was out of breath when she stopped in front of Lori. "Dr. Levaine, your husband, Chad Lowry, he's…"

"Does he want me to see him?" Lori's expression turned cold. "All he did was throw up some blood. That won't kill him. He should stop playing the pity card to get my attention. Tell him that I agree to the divorce and to stop harassing me from now on."

She was done after that.

Lori did not give the nurse another chance to speak. She turned and left quickly.

I was reminded of when I had a fever. It was so bad that I was in a dazed and confused state of mind. I felt so horrible that I had begged Lori to stay by my side.

When my head finally cleared, she slapped me and said with clenched teeth, "It's Bryce's birthday today. I promised to spend it with him, but I had to break my promise because of your fever. You did this on purpose, Chad Lowry!"

It was right after that time that Lori started to hate me even more.

This time, she still felt that I was pretending to be sick to gain her sympathy. She no longer believed me like she used to.

My spirit followed Lori as she left the hospital's corridor.

When she left the corridor, she suddenly stopped.

Lori took out her phone to type out a message for me. She edited it over and over until it was left with only one sentence, "Let's get a divorce."

She then pressed 'Send'.

Lori had no idea that I was dead. I could no longer respond to her.

However, what happened next was shocking. After she sent out the message, 'I' responded to her text message. "You're in a hurry to divorce me because of Bryce Fallon, aren't you? Fine. I agree to the divorce. You two adulterers have my blessings for a happy life…"

Lori was so mad at the reply that she smashed her phone on the ground.

She said viciously, "You'd better make sure you go through the divorce. Don't you come crying to me saying that you regret it!"

My spirit hovered in the air. I found this strange. I was supposed to be dead. How did I respond to Lori's message?

Whoever wrote that message made sure to imitate my tone. Even the way I used punctuation marks had been properly imitated.

Before I could think further, I saw Lori pick her phone off the ground. She then turned to leave.

A week later.

Bryce was discharged from the hospital.

Lori took Bryce to our home.

Bryce was in a wheelchair when he asked tentatively, "Won't Chad be mad about you bringing me here?"

Lori replied, "He has no right to decide who I bring home. Besides, Chad has agreed to the divorce."

Bryce was astonished. "Chad loves you so much. I can't believe he agreed to the divorce. Did he tell you that himself?"

Lori affirmed it.

My spirit hovered in the air. I wanted to shout out loud and tell her that I was dead… That the message agreeing to the divorce was not mine. However, she could not hear me, no matter how hard I screamed or shouted.

Lori did not want to talk about me. She changed the topic. "Stay where you are. I'll get you some water."

She went off to pour a glass of water. When she came back, she saw Bryce trying to stand up from the wheelchair.

He had not fully recovered. The moment he tried to stand up, his knees went weak, and he was about to fall to the ground.

Lori quickly flung the glass of water away to stop Bryce from falling.

They ended up falling heavily to the floor.

Bryce was on top of Lori in an extremely intimate position.

He looked deeply into Lori's eyes. "When Chad was by your side, I could never find the courage to tell you this. Now that you're finally getting a divorce, I can stop holding back. Lori, I love you. Let's get back together."

Lori was deeply touched by Bryce's words.

She nodded demurely as she broke out in happy tears.

Bryce kissed Lori on the lips.

Lori kissed him back passionately.

When I saw what was happening between them, I felt nauseated. It was disgusting.

Lori had always been cold to me throughout our years of marriage.

She refused to even let me touch her, much less have a physical relationship.

I respected her wishes and never forced anything on her.

However, the woman whom I cherished so much that I did not even dare lay a finger on was now under another man. She was responding to the man's seduction with a level of passion that I had never seen before.

"Lori, why didn't you tell me you were back? Did… Did you hear everything we said?"Lori sneered. She said, "How could you lie to me, Bryce Fallon?
