Alexei narrowed his eyes. “What is this?”

“Oh God,” Dimitri whispered.

I turned to Dimitri, whose face was full of panic. That only made my suspicion grow even more. What did Dimitri know that we didn’t? And why did it somehow involve Alexei?

“Anna, get inside,” Alexei ordered suddenly.

“What? No!” I refused.

“Now, Anna!” His voice was sharp.

The twins tried to pull me toward the building, but I shoved their hands away. I didn’t want anything to happen to Alexei. I didn’t want to hide. We were supposed to face things together, not like this!

Alexei stepped forward toward the Nightshade members. Suddenly, they all pulled guns from under their jackets—aimed straight at him.

I gasped. “No! Stop! What are you doing?!”

“Anna, stop! Don’t be like this,” Nathaniel hissed. “Alexei can handle them!”

“With guns pointed at him? Don’t try to calm me down!”

I didn’t understand why Nightshade members would turn against Alexei. What had he supposedly done? From everything I knew, Alexei had been try

  • Tied to the Ruthless Three   130. My Father’s Grave, Their Power Game

The rumble of a car engine approaching the mansion gate made my steps freeze. I turned toward the gate just as one of the guards came to check, while the others stayed on alert. My brows pulled together when I caught sight of the nose of a black car creeping in.“Who is that?” I asked, torn between curiosity and anxiety.“Nightshade,” the guard answered quickly. “Mrs. Katerina.”I stiffened, so did Isolde and Gabriel. With one swift tug, Gabriel dragged Nathaniel back inside the mansion. Nathaniel started thrashing and rambling, and before I could react, Isolde stepped forward and swung her fist.SMACK!!Her punch landed squarely on Nathaniel’s face, knocking him out cold. Gabriel and I stared, wide-eyed, at her impulsive move.“Hey, better than letting him blurt something dangerous, right?” Isolde said, glancing between Gabriel and me. “Now hurry, get him to his room and lock the door.”The guards quickly helped Gabriel carry Nathaniel away while I stood beside Isolde, ready to greet

If time could be turned back, there are so many things I wish I could’ve said to Father. How deeply I regret the way I used to think of him—how I believed he didn’t love me, how I felt I was nothing but a disappointing daughter he never wanted.I took a slow breath, trying to hold back the tears that once again slipped down my cheeks. The pain of losing him didn’t fade with time; if anything, it grew heavier. The wound widened, leaving a hollow mark inside me.Outside, the weather was bright, and I could hear the cheerful chirping of birds—like nothing had ever happened around this mansion.Life had to go on after Father’s death, even though I didn’t know if I had the strength to continue. The person who held me up all this time was now gone.My bedroom door was gently knocked on. When I turned, Isolde was standing in the doorway. She walked in and hugged me tightly. We cried together in silence. After my sobs quieted, I loosened my embrace. Isolde wiped the tears from my cheeks.“I’m

Father immediately stepped in front of me, one hand stretched out toward Evelina. She clenched her jaw, the barrel of the gun still pointed at us. Slowly, Father motioned for me to move back with his other hand.No. I didn’t want to run or hide. I wouldn’t stand by and do nothing if something happened to Father.“Put the gun down, Evelina,” Father said softly but firmly.“You bastard, Alistair! You’ve been lying to me this whole time! I thought you loved me, I thought you cared about my children and me!” Evelina let out a low, bitter laugh. “But it turns out… the only one you ever cared about was your own daughter.”“I care about Gabriel and Nathaniel,” Father replied calmly. “They’re my children too.”“You lied!!” Evelina spat.My eyes darted to Father’s hand, still motioning for me to step back. I hesitated, then slowly edged toward his desk. There was no exit from here, and hiding behind the desk wouldn’t save me.I needed to do something—anything—to distract Evelina long enough fo

ALEXEI POVThe sound of footsteps coming down the metal stairs made me instantly alert. In this dark room, every noise was more evident, and the beam of a flashlight flickered like a firefly darting quickly along the steps. The flashlight pointed directly at me as the footsteps drew closer. I narrowed my eyes at the brightness.“Mr.Alexei?” The whisper was familiar. The flashlight shifted toward the girl standing not far from me. “It is me,” she added.“Isolde?” I could hardly believe I was looking at one of the students from Bastorin standing before me. Not just one, but two more as well: Gabriel and Nathaniel.Something surged sharply within me at the sight of them wandering around such a dangerous place. A place where they absolutely should not be. What were they thinking, taking a risk like this?“What are all of you doing here? Get out of here!” I hissed in frustration.Nathaniel’s sharp eyes showed clear annoyance, and a soft grunt escaped his lips. He moved toward me, stepping

I stepped out of the ballroom and saw Dimitri arguing with Victoria. I had no intention of eavesdropping; I just needed to find out where Father and Evelina were. And of course, I had to make sure Alexei was safe. But Dimitri and Victoria’s argument was impossible not to hear—Victoria was speaking so loudly that her voice echoed through the corridor.“What were you thinking? My father gave you a chance to become a candidate for leader! And you just threw it away!” Victoria snapped furiously.“I don’t want to be Nightshade’s leader. I’ve never wanted that,” Dimitri bit back.“Then what do you want? I worked so hard to convince my father, and you treat all of this like some kind of joke!”“The point is, I can’t do it. I’m even thinking maybe this relationship shouldn’t continue.”“What did you say? Say it again, Dimitri!”I turned my face away, pretending not to see them. But suddenly, someone grabbed my shoulder from behind. I spun around and swatted away Victoria’s hand.“What the hel

The uneasy feeling hit me the moment I entered the ballroom with Dimitri and Tisha. The crowd had split itself into three factions—whether they realized it or not, that’s precisely what happened. The first group was, of course, Katerina and my father. The second was Tisha’s father. And the third belonged to Vlad—and Victoria, who showed up out of nowhere. What was happening? Why did the atmosphere feel so tense? From each faction, I could feel the desire to attack, to tear each other apart.“They’re here,” one of the guests pointed out.The three of us exchanged looks. As soon as they saw us standing together, someone from Tisha’s side immediately pulled her toward her father. Then Victoria grabbed Dimitri away, not forgetting to shoot me a sharp, nasty glare.I looked toward my father and Katerina; they nodded, signaling me to come closer. Carefully, I walked toward them while keeping an eye on the peopl
