I couldn’t help wondering—was it possible Benjamin had invited me to dinner because he’d already received a mandate from Darius?

The message from Benjamin was brief and straight to the point. Darius had sent him the meeting location, and Benjamin simply asked whether I wanted him to pick me up. I hadn’t replied yet.

“You’re really sure you’re going to meet Benjamin?” Isolde’s question sounded more like a judgment.

According to her, I’d agreed far too quickly. As if I had no backbone. I should have been more cautious. I shouldn’t let logic slip away just because Benjamin’s face resembled Alexei’s.

I didn’t dare argue—Isolde wasn’t wrong. And now, canceling was impossible anyway. Benjamin had already made a reservation for seven.

“Anna?” Isolde called, snapping me out of my thoughts.

“Yes. I think I’ll go,” I said, glancing at her. “I should start getting ready.”

“And you still haven’t replied to his offer? Just tell him to pick you up here.” Isolde crossed her arms irritably. “There’s

“How much longer are you planning to stay there?”Gabriel’s voice on the line was starting to sound annoyed. I’d been staying at Isolde’s place for five days now, busy modifying the weapons Darius had ordered. And, if I were being honest, I also hoped I might run into Benjamin again—though the chances were slim.“I’m not sure. A few more days, maybe,” I replied calmly.“Do you want me to come pick you up?”I chuckled softly. “No need. You and Nate are busy; there’s no way you’d drive all the way out here. Besides, it’s not that far. Just two or three hours.”“I don’t care. Even if you were at the end of the world, I’d come get you.”Unlike Nathaniel, Gabriel no longer hesitated to show his affection and concern. He never missed a day of reminding me to eat, rest, and take care of myself—small things, but strangely comforting. No one could match Gabriel’s gentleness.Nathaniel showed his concern differently. He called me directly. Aside from work, he’d ask what I was doing, but never f

The atmosphere of a charity gala was, as always, anything but social. Designer gowns, tailored suits, expensive perfume—everything stood in sharp contrast to the cause being advertised. But that was the reality of these events. Which was precisely why I hated them. After years of being kept under Katerina’s watch, then thrown into dangerous missions, standing here made my skin crawl. Isolde felt the same. We were field soldiers who suddenly didn’t know how to function among high society.“We should be used to events like this by now,” Isolde whispered. “I think Katerina brainwashed us.”“Do you think a normal life like this would actually suit us?” I asked.Isolde smiled, as if to anyone watching, we were only discussing dresses and jewelry. “Yes. This kind of life is far better, Anna—compared to dodging bullets and knives every day.”She wasn’t wrong. Nearly dying on missions had fueled my adrenaline, kept me sharp. And now, surrounded by glamour and polite smiles, maybe this was how

Isolde showed up wearing a casual T-shirt and long pants. She waved at me through the glass while I was browsing inside a jewelry store. She hurried in, her brows already furrowed.“So, whose birthday proposal is this for?” Isolde asked bluntly. “Nate or Gabe?”I glanced at her briefly. “Lately, Nate’s been into chain necklaces, and Gabe prefers rings. Whoever they end up marrying someday, it definitely won’t be me.”“Okay.” Isolde shrugged indifferently. “I’m just asking.”I handed my chosen necklace and ring to the sales assistant so they could be wrapped, then walked over to the cashier to pay, with Isolde following closely behind. We sat on the couch afterward, waiting for the items.“Do you want to talk about the prototype Vlad is having made?” I whispered.Isolde nodded. “He’s producing it on a massive scale. I don’t know if this even follows Nightshade protocol. I mean…” her eyes flicked toward the sales assistant standing a short distance away, “… I’m scared this will drag my

My eyes followed the Ferris wheel as it rotated slowly, somehow filling my chest with a strange sense of euphoria. The atmosphere around me buzzed with chatter, laughter, and emotions overflowing with happiness. When was the last time I’d been to an amusement park? Probably more than a decade ago.But I wasn’t here to reminisce or have fun. I was here because Darius had asked to meet me, and honestly, it was absurd. Still, I figured he was the kind of man who calculated everything carefully.Another message came in. Darius was waiting near the hotdog stand by the roller coaster. I walked through the park, scanning the area, trying to locate the roller coaster in this massive place.I saw children and teenagers lining up for the ride. Not far from there were clusters of food and drink booths, tables with umbrellas scattered around. What stood out most was a group of men dressed in black shirts and sunglasses. Though they were spread out across the area, I knew immediately that they wer

I got into their car, sitting alert, their three weapons resting on my lap. They made no suspicious moves. The car drove far toward the edge of the city, then climbed a hilly road. The atmosphere felt like we were heading toward Bastorin. Eventually, we stopped in front of a massive double gate surrounded by tall stone walls.A castle? I thought.Coming here put my life at risk. Guards stood at the entrance, and security was extremely tight.I stepped out of the car, scanning for any possible escape routes. There were none. I had no choice but to accept it, for now.I was escorted to a pair of large wooden double doors with mosaic acrylic glass. When they opened, several maids greeted me warmly and led the way to where the businessman was waiting. The castle was enormous, with wide, towering corridors. Eventually, we reached the back area, where a gazebo stood. A man was seated inside, calm and composed. His face wasn’t clear yet. After crossing the stone path, I reached the open gaze
