Chapter 28

Author: Frostpine
Even Marcus couldn't help feeling a little curious.

I wasn't expecting Sebastian to say anything moving, but I still found myself wanting to hear how he would respond.

But to my surprise, Sebastian simply lifted his foot and walked out, tossing back an indifferent remark, "You're overthinking it."

Just like that. He was cold as ever.

I stared at his departing figure, feeling a stab of regret. If only I had gotten along with him back then.

Maybe he would've recognized me by now—and maybe, just maybe, the real killer would already be brought to justice.

But no. We had been sworn enemies. If Sebastian ever found out that the headless female corpse was actually me, he would probably sneer and say, "Mia, weren't you so proud of yourself? Look at you now. Beheaded. Serves you right."

Meanwhile, Jameson headed to the Dawson family's house.

Caitlyn was busy at the hospital and wasn't home.

Paul invited him in for some tea.

But Jameson raised his hand to stop him. "Paul, where's Isa

  • Till Death Do Us Part… Me First   Chapter 30

"Yeah, if there hadn't been that mix-up at birth, Isabella probably would've been the one marrying Jameson. I heard that Mia is spoiled and temperamental, always running away from home. She still hasn't returned home yet," a woman said."No wonder Jameson is here with Isabella. Tsk, women really shouldn't be so dramatic," another added.I never responded to Jameson's messages. In a fit of anger, he brought Isabella to the party instead. The two women gossiping were Jameson's aunts—Adam was the third son of the Rhodes family, with two older brothers above him. These two aunts were notorious for their love of gossip. The moment Jameson and Isabella walked in, they started whispering and speculating.I listened quietly, feeling nothing at all. After I "died," Caitlyn had gone around badmouthing me. Now, most people believed that I had run away from home out of selfishness, completely forgetting that on the day of the wedding, it was I who had been left behind at the altar.I was t

I couldn't help but laugh at Isabella's words.Listen to her—how gracious she sounded. That casual "there's no need" was dripping with contempt, as if she were saying, I'm a renowned female racer. Why would I even bother with some fake heiress? But only I knew the truth: all the honors Isabella had today were stolen from me.Back then, if she hadn't suddenly fallen ill right before the race, I never would have been forced by my mentor to fill in for her at the last minute. And it was that race that completely destroyed my career.During the competition, the engine malfunctioned, and my car flipped. I was trapped in the raging fire, suffering severe burns and multiple fractures. Even my eye disease that had been cured once flared up again. The doctor had warned me that if my condition ever relapsed, it would be irreversible. And sure enough, when I finally woke up in the hospital, the world before me was nothing but a blur—I couldn't see a thing.None of the Dawson family, not ev

I turned my head at the sound and saw Sebastian walk in.He was tall and broad-shouldered, his features sharp and defined. Dressed in a white lab coat, his posture was straight and commanding. A pair of gold-rimmed glasses perched on the bridge of his nose, he exuded a natural air of sophistication. The only thing that stood out was the coldness in his eyes — a chill as cutting as a winter glacier.Jameson was drawn by the noise too. When his gaze locked with Sebastian's, he froze. A flicker of guilt flashed across his face.It took him a long moment before he spoke, stammering, "Y-You're back, Sebastian?"But Sebastian barely gave him a glance, as if even acknowledging him was beneath him.He turned instead and handed a report to Marcus."I tested the wound's cut angle and bleeding pattern," he said flatly. "Based on the blade material, thickness, and shape, I filtered through industrial and kitchen knives and selected the ones that matched the characteristics of the murder wea

This time, a few undercover officers from the Vallencourt precinct had staked out the area for over a month before finally arresting a dozen or so people.Since Marcus hadn't been able to directly participate in the headless corpse case, he'd had a lot of free time lately. That was why the higher-ups assigned him the task of handling the interrogations.Inside the car, Marcus glanced over, puzzled. "Why are you following me?"Jameson's mind flashed back to that photo of Mia kissing another man. His voice was cold as ice. "To catch someone."Even though his tone stayed calm, the anger beneath it was impossible to miss."You're not a cop. Who are you catching?"Jameson let out a low, mocking laugh. "Marcus, in your mind, Mia must be some pure, untouchable angel, huh?"Marcus turned his head slightly. "What's that supposed to mean?"Jameson didn't waste time. He pulled up the photo—the one of Mia kissing that stranger—and shoved it at Marcus."See for yourself. Mia's not as pure

George was over eighty, but his slap still packed a punch. Without warning, his palm struck the other side of Jameson's face. The suddenness of it made my spirit jolt backward."Grandpa, Mia, she..." Jameson started, wanting to tell him about the affair. But then he remembered Adam's warning and bit his tongue. If Grandpa found out he couldn't even manage his own marriage, he'd think Jameson was incompetent."So many days have passed, and you still haven't found Mia? What the hell have you been doing?" George barked. He sat upright on the bed, his face pale and weary. The weather had turned colder, and his age showed in the way even a mild cold took a toll on him.Jameson immediately answered, "Don't worry, Grandpa. I'll find Mia soon. She's just angry. Once I talk to her properly and say a few nice words, she'll come back."I listened to his smug self-assurance and let out a silent, bitter laugh.Even if I weren't already dead, even if I were alive, after all the filthy thing

Jameson caressed Isabella possessively. The temperature inside the car began to rise."Alright," she said, "you're my one and only."Jameson curled his lips into a satisfied smile. "Isabella," he murmured, "you feel so good."Isabella caught his hand. "There are people outside.""Relax, there's an anti-peeping film. No one can see inside. Doesn't that make it even more exciting?"I couldn't even be mad anymore.Just a moment ago, Jameson had been furious. Now, he was already playing these little games with Isabella.Maybe he really did believe I had cheated. Maybe that was why he felt no guilt, why he could do this even now, with her.…At the Rhodes's family home, Adam threw the divorce papers straight at Jameson's face. "Don't even think about it!"Disgust flickered in Jameson's eyes. "Dad, that bitch Mia ran off over something trivial and now she's fooling around with some random guy. Why shouldn't I divorce her?""You think a few photos are enough to prove she cheated?"

  • Till Death Do Us Part… Me First   Chapter 23

I stared at Jameson's furious face, feeling nothing but silent exasperation.I had only been gone a short while, and yet here he was again—falling for Isabella's words, ready to chase down some imagined lover. I was a dead woman—where would I even find a lover? After everything that had already happened, I was calmer this time. Only, the hatred in my heart toward Jameson and Isabella deepened even more. If the heavens ever gave me another chance, I would never let those two get away with it. Never."No wonder you said before that Mia must have sold off all those things for money—just to support some man on the side," Jameson muttered. His face had passed beyond mere anger into something almost grotesque.I looked at him coldly.'Jameson, what right do you have to despise me? Aren't you just as filthy, just as rotten?'Isabella pulled the car to a steady stop at Clinton Street. The window on the passenger side lowered with a quiet hum.Not far ahead, a street race was underway—t

"Yes… Yes… I… like it..."Jameson's movements grew rougher, almost violent, as if he was pouring every bit of resentment bottled up inside him into her body.He thought, 'Mia, don't blame me for betraying you since you have the nerve to betray me!'A cruel smile played on Jameson's lips. "Isabella, you look beautiful in high heels. From now on, only wear them for me, alright?""Mmm... okay..."Jameson's anger, fueled by betrayal, found its outlet in Isabella. The bathroom was filled with the sounds of breathless, feverish entanglement. But my attention stayed fixed on the heels.Jameson seemed to have a special fondness for high heels. I still remembered—the year I agreed to be with him, the first gift he gave me was a pair of red high heels.I had never worn them. I hated high heels. And yet, after my death, he'd given those same shoes to Isabella. She wore them now. In a moment like this.Who would have thought Jameson, who looked so polite and composed on the outside, hid
