Chapter 3

Author: A Flying Fish
Loretta's face went pale. She bit her lip and snapped, her voice suddenly high and sharp, "How is that possible? You must have used some dirty trick, you tramp!"

I was about to explain when she screamed and lunged at me, her hand flying up to slap my face.

The next moment, a round white furball from the corner shot out like lightning and bit her wrist hard. Loretta screamed and staggered back several steps, collapsing onto the floor.

I instinctively reached out to help her up.

But then, the front door was kicked open with a bang.

Garrett stood in the doorway, his face stone-cold.

"Rosie, how dare you train that animal to hurt Loretta!"

His dark eyes swept over Snowie, then fixed on me, his thin lips a cold line.

"I told you before, I'll kill anyone who hurts Loretta." He turned to the guards. "Why are you all standing there?"

The way he forced me into a corner ripped apart any illusions I had left.

"Throw that animal in the shredder!"

The two men at the door moved at once and grabbed Snowie by the scruff.

Snowie's eyes were full of fear and fury. Its paws clawed wildly, but it couldn't break free from their huge arms.

My chest tightened, and I shouted, "Stop!"

A guard pinned me so I couldn't move.

"Mr. Frank, Ms. Huber came here to humiliate Ms. Wheeler. Snowie bit her in defense!" my maid protested on my behalf.

"You're lying!" Loretta cried, clutching her hand with a voice that trembled with tears. "She kept that mad dog on purpose to hurt me!"

Garrett glanced at me with icy disdain, then bent down to help Loretta to her feet.

"Get rid of that mad dog."

Snowie was hoisted up, and the guard twisted its neck.

My heart turned to ice. I didn't think twice and lunged to snatch Snowie back.

"Garrett! Snowie was protecting me. Loretta started it. She's the one who attacked…"

But he didn't look at me. He simply tossed Snowie aside.

Snowie struggled twice on the floor, then its neck went limp. Silence followed.

I sank to my knees, stunned, the painful scene replaying in my mind.

In my last life, Garrett was just as merciless. He had bribed a vet to use Snowie as an experiment. It eventually died on a cold table.

I bit my lip until the sobs went silent.

"Garrett, I raised Snowie since I was a kid. Do you have to be so cruel?"

My fists clenched, and my voice was hoarse.

But Garrett only sneered, "You're lucky I let you live. Don't forget that. My heart has always belonged to Loretta. If you mess with her again, you'll be the next one dead."

He carried Loretta away without looking back.

I kept my head down, my nails digging into my palm.

Loretta shot me a final glare, full of contempt and triumph.

Garrett might not know it yet, but by killing Snowie, he also killed his last chance of saving himself. Forget inheriting the family business! It would be a miracle if he survived another month.

Snowie's body was already stiff. I trembled as I picked it up and dug a small grave in the yard.

All my life, Snowie had stayed by my side. Even when it was tortured to death in the last life, it never let go of my hand.

My tears fell hard into the dirt.

In that moment, the pain made breathing hurt.

"Do you want some help?"

I looked up into Jim Hammond's dark, gentle eyes.

At yesterday's dinner party, Garrett wasn't the only one bitten by a snake. Jim had also been bitten.

In my previous life, I had poured everything into saving Garrett. I cut my wrist to use my blood as an antidote, and Jim died because he didn't get treatment in time.

But yesterday, I had made a special antidote from my blood ahead of time and arranged for it to be given to Jim immediately after he was bitten, so he survived.

I wiped the wet tracks from my face and said with absolute seriousness, "Are you interested in a little partnership? I'll help you take down Frank Corporation, and you marry me."

For a second, I just stood there, almost laughing at how ridiculous the whole thing was.Even now, Garrett still thought I had feelings for him.Next to me, Jim calmly showed his cufflinks. The light caught a sharp gold gleam."Mr. Frank," he said coolly, "do you mean this?"He pinched the gold cufflink between his fingers and tilted it under the chandelier, smiling with easy confidence."Rosie picked it out for me herself. Looks good, don't you think?"Garrett froze, his expression cracking, disbelief flooding his eyes."That's impossible! You couldn't have known him that early on. I don't believe you could've moved on from me so fast."He stared at me, stubborn and desperate, still refusing to accept it.I looked down at him, my lips curling slightly."I changed my mind. Letting you die just like that would be too easy. I'd rather watch you rot away, helpless and in agony. That sounds much more satisfying. The poison will stay in your body for the rest of your life. This is

"Don't say that! It wasn't me! This has nothing to do with me!"Loretta was on the floor, both hands braced against the ground as she shook her head, crying so hard that her voice cracked.Garrett stared at her, his face dark and unreadable. He was still unable to believe that the person who hurt him most was the one he had trusted completely. Two bodyguards dragged in the so-called miracle doctor. The man dropped to his knees with a loud thud, trembling from head to toe."Please, Mr. Frank, go easy on me! It was all Ms. Huber's idea! I told her about the side effects of that medicine. She said she didn't care what you'd turn into afterward. As long as you made it through the wedding, she'd take the risk."Those words hit Garrett like a nail driven straight into his heart. The man pulled out a small recorder from his pocket and pressed play. At once, Loretta's voice filled the room. "As long as Garrett can make it to the wedding, I don't care if he rots afterward. Just do it!

Loretta clutched her veil tightly, refusing to let anyone near her."Garrett promised to marry me! No one's going to tear us apart!"Her eyes stayed locked on the doors of the banquet hall, full of desperate hope.I just stood there, waiting for everyone to expose her lies, waiting for her to taste the same pain I had suffered in my last life. The next second, a deep voice roared from outside the door."Who gave you permission to touch her?"In an instant, everyone froze in shock. The man who had been lying unconscious in a hospital bed, hooked up to machines just to stay alive, was now striding into the hall with steady steps."Mr. Frank's awake? Wasn't he in a coma this whole time?""I heard Ms. Huber tried all kinds of crazy home remedies. Guess none of those specialists could help, but somehow she did it.""Looks like she really will be Mrs. Frank."A flicker of joy lit up Michelle's face, too obvious to hide.Loretta shoved the bodyguard holding her aside and ran strai

No sooner had Michelle and Walter left than Loretta rushed to Garrett's bedside. They thought his waking meant a turning point, but in the blink of an eye, he slipped back into a deep coma. The attending doctors fussed with the machines, their voices full of helplessness."Mr. Frank's condition is very serious. The toxin has invaded his nervous system. You should…prepare for the worst.""Shut up!" Loretta cried. She dropped to her knees beside the bed. "Garrett will be fine! He promised he'd marry me! He won't leave me alone!"I stood behind Loretta and watched her coldly. Those who once ruined me were finally getting what they deserved.Loretta's mind was a mess, and she was teetering on the edge.I stepped forward slowly and looked down at her disheveled, frantic face, and let out a soft snort."When you caused Snowie's death, did you ever expect the payback to come this fast?"Loretta whipped her head around, her eyes full of malice and indignation. She ground her teeth an

I sat in the backseat and slowly rolled up the window, shutting out the noise of the street.Garrett's payback was only just beginning. The last time he was bitten, he was close to death, but he had taken the antidote in time.Garrett didn't take it seriously. Rather, he thought it just gave Loretta a chance to shine and legally become Mrs. Frank. He imagined he had planned everything perfectly, but he missed the fact that a slow-acting neurotoxin had been lurking inside him. Had he followed the doctor's orders and rested quietly in the hospital, he would have recovered bit by bit. However, Loretta used the "lifesaver" story to climb into the Franks and instantly become Mrs. Frank. No high-society daughter aiming to marry into the Franks would accept that gracefully. Public mockery and private schemes became the new normal.Of course, Garrett wouldn't stand by and watch the woman he loved get bullied. To protect Loretta, he forced himself to go to events and buy everything neede

The moment the words left my mouth, a spark of surprise lit up in Jim's eyes.A smile tugged at the corners of his lips, as if he had finally made it through the storm and seen the sun again. "Alright, deal. Don't you dare back out."He didn't ask a single question. As we brushed past each other, he leaned in close and murmured, "Be good and wait for me."Then he left in a hurry, excitement practically radiating from his back as he disappeared out the door.-The very next morning, Jim showed up with his parents to officially propose. Everything they brought was expensive. There were two of everything, all top-notch.Dad couldn't stop grinning. He had always dreamed of me marrying into the Franks, but since Garrett had stubbornly insisted on marrying that housekeeper's daughter with no family background, he had finally given up.Now, seeing how Jim handled everything so properly, with genuine sincerity in every gesture, Dad couldn't be happier.Once the engagement was set, the
