Chapter 2

Author: A Flying Fish
"I understand what it means to be the heir of Frank Corporation," Garrett said firmly, "but I believe running this company takes skill and strength, not the influence of a spouse. I'll earn the position I want using my own abilities, not by relying on anyone else."

The entire ballroom went silent.

Walter's face darkened, and the veins on his temple twitched in fury.

I lowered my gaze, rubbing my fingers together, but the corner of my mouth lifted ever so slightly.

Classic Garrett. Cold, proud, and ruthless to the core.

Too bad he'd forgotten that when Walter pulled the company out of crisis years ago, it was only because my family, the Wheelers, had stepped in to help.

Back then, Walter had even made a verbal agreement with my father to unite our families through marriage.

"Very well!"

Walter's anger finally snapped. He slammed the table so hard that the glasses rattled.

"If you think you're so damn capable, I'll let you prove it. Let's see how long you last on your own!"

With that, he stormed out. Michelle hurried after him.

Garrett reached out and pulled Loretta into his arms, his tone soft and serious.

"Don't worry," he said gently. "You'll always be Mrs. Frank. No one will ever take that from you."

I watched the two of them cling to each other, all teary-eyed and devoted, and turned to leave.

However, Garrett's voice stopped me.

"Wait."

He brushed off Loretta's helping hand and, still unsteady, caught up to me.

Leaning close to my ear, he whispered so only the two of us could hear.

"Rosie, you're reborn, too, aren't you? At least you're smart enough not to get in Loretta's way this time. In our last life, if you hadn't interfered and ruined everything, I would've never treated you so cruelly. Now that we're here again, as long as you stay in your place, I'll spare you and the Wheelers. If you still want to stay by my side, fine. But let's be clear: you'll never have a title."

I arched a brow, pretending not to understand.

"What are you talking about, Mr. Frank? I might not come from the most powerful family, but I still have my dignity. Why on earth would I agree to be someone's mistress?"

I met his gaze directly.

There was no way I'd let him know the truth. I didn't want the hatred and bloodshed of our past to come back and destroy the Wheelers all over again.

When I glanced down and saw the dark tint still creeping up his arm, I almost laughed.

Did he really think a few nice words could erase what he had done last time? If so, he had no idea who he was dealing with.

Once the poison in his right hand spread, he wouldn't even live long enough to regret it.

I sneered and yanked my hand free.

"Looks like you need to get a brain scan, Mr. Frank. You might find a screw loose in there."

Without waiting for a response, I brushed past him and walked away.

Garrett tried to grab me, but his legs gave out. He stumbled forward and hit the floor hard.

"Garrett!" Loretta screamed, her voice trembling with panic.

I calmly straightened my sleeve, never looking back.

God had given me a second chance. This time, no one was going to hurt me or my family.

Early the next morning, I heard the housekeeper shouting downstairs that someone had barged in.

Moments later, Loretta stormed into my room, eyes red and furious.

"Rosie! You're a rich girl with everything you could want. Why do you have to take Garrett from me? Don't you get it? He was supposed to be mine!"

I sat up slowly, my hair still messy from sleep. "Are you sure you're not mistaken? When exactly did I ever compete with you for anything?"

"You little…"

Loretta bit her lip. Her eyes were glistening with tears, her voice sharp with resentment.

"Then what were you two talking about yesterday? After Garrett passed out, he kept calling your name!"

I raised a brow, my tone almost playful.

"Oh, he didn't tell you?" I said lightly. "He's begging to marry me now."

For a second, I just stood there, almost laughing at how ridiculous the whole thing was.Even now, Garrett still thought I had feelings for him.Next to me, Jim calmly showed his cufflinks. The light caught a sharp gold gleam."Mr. Frank," he said coolly, "do you mean this?"He pinched the gold cufflink between his fingers and tilted it under the chandelier, smiling with easy confidence."Rosie picked it out for me herself. Looks good, don't you think?"Garrett froze, his expression cracking, disbelief flooding his eyes."That's impossible! You couldn't have known him that early on. I don't believe you could've moved on from me so fast."He stared at me, stubborn and desperate, still refusing to accept it.I looked down at him, my lips curling slightly."I changed my mind. Letting you die just like that would be too easy. I'd rather watch you rot away, helpless and in agony. That sounds much more satisfying. The poison will stay in your body for the rest of your life. This is

"Don't say that! It wasn't me! This has nothing to do with me!"Loretta was on the floor, both hands braced against the ground as she shook her head, crying so hard that her voice cracked.Garrett stared at her, his face dark and unreadable. He was still unable to believe that the person who hurt him most was the one he had trusted completely. Two bodyguards dragged in the so-called miracle doctor. The man dropped to his knees with a loud thud, trembling from head to toe."Please, Mr. Frank, go easy on me! It was all Ms. Huber's idea! I told her about the side effects of that medicine. She said she didn't care what you'd turn into afterward. As long as you made it through the wedding, she'd take the risk."Those words hit Garrett like a nail driven straight into his heart. The man pulled out a small recorder from his pocket and pressed play. At once, Loretta's voice filled the room. "As long as Garrett can make it to the wedding, I don't care if he rots afterward. Just do it!

Loretta clutched her veil tightly, refusing to let anyone near her."Garrett promised to marry me! No one's going to tear us apart!"Her eyes stayed locked on the doors of the banquet hall, full of desperate hope.I just stood there, waiting for everyone to expose her lies, waiting for her to taste the same pain I had suffered in my last life. The next second, a deep voice roared from outside the door."Who gave you permission to touch her?"In an instant, everyone froze in shock. The man who had been lying unconscious in a hospital bed, hooked up to machines just to stay alive, was now striding into the hall with steady steps."Mr. Frank's awake? Wasn't he in a coma this whole time?""I heard Ms. Huber tried all kinds of crazy home remedies. Guess none of those specialists could help, but somehow she did it.""Looks like she really will be Mrs. Frank."A flicker of joy lit up Michelle's face, too obvious to hide.Loretta shoved the bodyguard holding her aside and ran strai

No sooner had Michelle and Walter left than Loretta rushed to Garrett's bedside. They thought his waking meant a turning point, but in the blink of an eye, he slipped back into a deep coma. The attending doctors fussed with the machines, their voices full of helplessness."Mr. Frank's condition is very serious. The toxin has invaded his nervous system. You should…prepare for the worst.""Shut up!" Loretta cried. She dropped to her knees beside the bed. "Garrett will be fine! He promised he'd marry me! He won't leave me alone!"I stood behind Loretta and watched her coldly. Those who once ruined me were finally getting what they deserved.Loretta's mind was a mess, and she was teetering on the edge.I stepped forward slowly and looked down at her disheveled, frantic face, and let out a soft snort."When you caused Snowie's death, did you ever expect the payback to come this fast?"Loretta whipped her head around, her eyes full of malice and indignation. She ground her teeth an

I sat in the backseat and slowly rolled up the window, shutting out the noise of the street.Garrett's payback was only just beginning. The last time he was bitten, he was close to death, but he had taken the antidote in time.Garrett didn't take it seriously. Rather, he thought it just gave Loretta a chance to shine and legally become Mrs. Frank. He imagined he had planned everything perfectly, but he missed the fact that a slow-acting neurotoxin had been lurking inside him. Had he followed the doctor's orders and rested quietly in the hospital, he would have recovered bit by bit. However, Loretta used the "lifesaver" story to climb into the Franks and instantly become Mrs. Frank. No high-society daughter aiming to marry into the Franks would accept that gracefully. Public mockery and private schemes became the new normal.Of course, Garrett wouldn't stand by and watch the woman he loved get bullied. The moment the words left my mouth, a spark of surprise lit up in Jim's eyes.A smile tugged at the corners of his lips, as if he had finally made it through the storm and seen the sun again. "Alright, deal. Don't you dare back out."He didn't ask a single question. As we brushed past each other, he leaned in close and murmured, "Be good and wait for me."Then he left in a hurry, excitement practically radiating from his back as he disappeared out the door.-The very next morning, Jim showed up with his parents to officially propose. Everything they brought was expensive. There were two of everything, all top-notch.Dad couldn't stop grinning. He had always dreamed of me marrying into the Franks, but since Garrett had stubbornly insisted on marrying that housekeeper's daughter with no family background, he had finally given up.Now, seeing how Jim handled everything so properly, with genuine sincerity in every gesture, Dad couldn't be happier.Once the engagement was set, the
