Tilly eyes met Sonia's. “And you? Are you going to stop pretending like you didn't intentionally step into the scene?”

“Tilly, I think your reasoning is very immature.” Sonia defended. “Don't let emotions cloud your judgement.”

“Spare me, Sonia. You were always watching Aveline since she came. I thought it was rather odd that you suddenly stepped into the scene when Aveline was far from the group!” Tilly’s anger boiled over.

“Don't—”

“Enough!” Xavier interjected. “Go home Tilly.”

“Bet.” Tilly laughed bitterly and yanked off her protective gears to the sofa. “Don't fuck each other if can't help being touchy in front of your fiancée.”

Tilly swung the door open, almost colliding with Matteo about to enter. Matteo furrowed his brows in confusion. He held a large frame in arm.

Matteo scanned the room, sighing before Tilly stormed out.

Matteo stepped inside. He glanced at both of them, leaving the painting. “Aveline asked me to give it to you personally.” He said sternly. “A really

That was all he said. He turned and started up the stairs, his footsteps fading into the quiet of the house.“It must be so easy for you,” she muttered under her breath, pushing the bowl away. Her phone buzzed.Tilly: Are you okay? Still hungover?Aveline typed quickly, anger still pulsing through her veins.Aveline: I’m okay. Just a bit hungover. She paused, staring at the reflection of her own faint outline in the glossy counter.Fragments of last night crept in. Xavier’s silhouette standing over her, his shirt tousled, his hair damp, the sharp scent of alcohol.“Me too.”The words echoed. Her brow furrowed. Had he been drunk too?She typed again.Aveline: When you dropped me off, did he seem… off to you?Tilly: I can’t remember. Xavier doesn’t drink much. Why?Aveline: I think your cousin was drunk last night.Tilly: You mean your husband?Aveline: Yeah, yeah. I just thought he acted strange. My senses are a bit mixed up. Maybe the reek was from me after all.She set the phone down

“Me too.” He said quietly."I hate you." Her tears came running down."Me too." He scoffed. "Pathetic." She brushed her curls back. She laid, taking the image of him standing there. She stood up, wiping her tears. She staggered back, patting his cheek. Xavier stood, dizzy and dazed. He allowed her."You’re pretty," she murmured, her words slurring together. “I definitely would’ve broken your heart if you weren’t Xavier Lorenzo.”She stumbled against him, laughing through a sniffle. Xavier staggered back a little, trying to keep balance with her in his arms. He wanted to steady her, but she didn’t let him. She just clung tighter.“Just be nice, okay?” she mumbled, pressing her face against his chest. “You’re warm.”Xavier pushed her back gently. “You’re too wasted.”She hummed in response, already half-asleep. He sighed, looping her arms around his shoulders. Bit by bit, he guided her up the stairs and into her room..The moment he opened the door, the scent hit him , vanilla and peac

“Pfft. I’ll just say you were kidnapped by fun.”They burst into laughter as the doors swung open. The bass thumped, lights danced, and for a brief moment, Aveline forgot every rule attached to her new name. The lounge wasn’t just a place for dancing. A crowd gathered around a low-lit table where a bartender in suspenders dealt cards like a magician. Aveline leaned over Tilly’s shoulder, curious. “What’s this?”Tilly grinned. “Oh, this? They call it Queen’s Gambit. part chess, part cards, all chaos. You play a move, you drink. Lose a round, you drink twice. Win three times, and you get the Queen’s Crown. free cocktails for the night.”“That’s ridiculous.” Aveline snickered “That’s fun.”Before Aveline could protest, Tilly was already dragging her forward. The crowd cheered for the new faces. The first few rounds went easily, Aveline’s strategic mind worked faster than she expected, and the drinks went down smoother than she wanted to admit.By the fifth round, she was laughing too ha

Aveline's curls flung carelessly into the air. Tilly blasted some loud music. Vain and vulgar. Something she wouldn't play but she was just happy. Tilly pressed the pedals rushing through. Aveline screamed, adjusting her glasses. “Didn't think you were that reckless.” Tilly smirked.“Reckless? We're having fun.” Aveline's laughter filled the air.Tilly nodded her head pathetically. She slowed down her pace. “I don't mind going fast, but with you in the car, It'd be best to avoid Xavier's boring ass.”“Xavier is gonna complain about you driving me fast?” Aveline snickered. “No, but if we get in trouble, they'll remember the billionaire's wife.” Tilly honked. “So what? We’ll bribe our debt away.”Tilly squeaked. “What?!” “What is he gonna do? Spank my ass?” Aveline joked.“You don't fear Xavier.”“I've never feared him. I was just a bit weary of the powerful Lorenzo heir. He's a bit… meh but he doesn't care what I do.”“Typical Xavier behavior.” Tilly rolled her eyes. “How are you

The LDS cybersecurity division was in chaos. A classified file had been accessed from an external device. It was nothing catastrophic, but enough to raise alarms. Xavier’s fingers tapped against the polished table as they presented the report. “Find the breach,” he said simply. “And the person behind it.”He left before they could respond, his mind already elsewhere. Sonia’s cryptic message still. He pulled his coat over, exiting the room. The moment the doors closed behind him, Xavier loosened his tie. Sonia had sent another message. Whatever it was, it had better be worth his time.Need to talk. Come by. It’s important, she sent. She never said please. That alone was enough to unnerve him. Xavier drove himself. He preferred to drive himself that afternoon. He rubbed his fingers against his lips anxiously. He drove even faster. By the time the car pulled up to her gate, the tension had settled into his stomach. The lights from the villa glowed faintly gold through frosted glass. So

Xavier was exactly the same as when they’d first arrived. The evening had been lively, even fun, but he hadn’t spoken much. Not really. It bothered her, though she couldn’t quite explain why. He’d always been quiet. This time, though, the silence felt heavier.Theo stood by the door with Mrs. Lorenzo, Tilly, Sonia, and Matteo, all gathered to bid their goodbyes. Aveline had insisted they leave first — not for any particular reason, or so she told herself. The night air bit at her skin, and she rubbed her arms, shivering. She stayed close behind Xavier, letting his tall frame shield her from the cold.At the car, he paused, opening the door and waiting silently for her to step in.The car moved, silence falling neatly into place.Aveline finally spoke. “You were quiet.”“I’m always quiet. It shouldn’t bother you now.” His tone was even, detached.“You don’t always have to be like this.”“Like what?” He turned slightly toward her. “Arrogant? Selfish? Self-absorbed? Which one?”“I never
