Mia
The tall huge figure rushed past me and ran into the dark of the night. I rushed back inside and secured the locks before I went to bed.
The incident ran through my mind as I wiped down the diner tables. I didn’t tell Sandra about it as she prepared to go. She would worry for my safety.
The front doorbell chimes disrupting my thoughts.
“We are not yet open.” I said as I swirled around to see Fabian smiling. He was wearing sweatshirts and pants and his skin was covered with a sheen of heat.
“Hey, beautiful.”
“Fabian!”
“I thought I could see you before this place starts buzzing.”
I smiled lightly. “Fabian, what are you doing here?” I asked him.
“You have not been replying to any of my texts. I thought I could find out why.” He said, still smiling at me.
“Fabian. Whatever this is. It is not going to work.”
“What?” He asked, looking confused. “I just want to get to know you better, maybe it could lead to something more than friendship.”
“I can’t offer you more than casual friendship. I’m sorry.” I said in a rush.
He didn’t say anything but just looked at me to elaborate on the why— which I don't want to but I have to.
“I am carrying another man’s child.”
His eyes widened but he schooled his expression immediately and approached me.
“I still want to know you, pregnant or not.”
“Besides there is no rule that is against single mothers dating.” He joked lightly.
My face heats up as butterflies burst in my belly. I looked down to hide my red face.
“Some men don’t like that.” I retorted.
“Well, I am Fabian and I like you, Mia.”
He likes me! The thought of a possible romance made me giddy.
“I would like to be your friend first and see where it goes.” I said as more heat crept up my ears and cheeks.
“So that means you will reply to my text now?” He asked jokingly.
I chuckled quietly as I nodded.
“I have to go. I just got back from the gym and I have work.” He explained as he backed away to the entrance.
“Bye Fabian.”
“Bye, beautiful.” He left and I carried on with my work.
Fabian was truly the perfect gentleman and he was so easy to talk to. He took me to my first antenatal appointment. I was so nervous but he held my hand throughout, never leaving my side.

“Are you okay? You are sweating so much.” My coworker asked me as I entered behind the counter.
“I’m fine thank you.”
I feel so dizzy. My morning sickness has gotten worse since even after the doctor's visit. I feel pale and empty. I can’t even stomach any solid food.
“Take the day off. I will cover for you.” She said
“Thank you so much.” I said as I dashed out and took my things and left.
I lounged around in the sitting room, scrolling through my phone as I ate pizza—literally the only thing I can eat right now without feeling like throwing up.
A sharp knock sounded at my front door, I bolted upright immediately and grabbed the nearest thing I could get my hands on in case they were burglars from the other night.
I looked at the door intently. When nothing happened, I walked lightly to the door.
“Hello Mia. Long time no see” a deep voice said as I opened the front door. My eyes widened as my mouth hung open.
“Killian!”
“How did you find me?” He looked at me as if I had just asked a dumb question— of course, it is dumb. He could find me even if I hid under the deepest sea.
“You think you can run away with my child and I won't find you.” He said as he walked into my apartment intentionally bumping into me.
“Hey! You can’t just enter someone's house without.." I swirled around immediately but in my tracks as I saw him looking at my place with clear disgust.
“Is this where you want to raise my child?”
“None of your business. You literally didn’t want the baby.”
“Well, I want it now. suck it up.” He said, looking at me intently.
“You look so thin and pale. You haven’t been eating properly.”
“Don’t come in here and act like you care. I don’t need you. I have got it.” I bit out
“I don’t give two fucks about you. I only care about my child.” He said coldly, his expression stoic as he ran his eyes all over me.
“What the fuck Mia?” He said as he suddenly gripped my shoulder looking pointedly at the red spot.
Shit!
I slipped out of his hold and dragged my shirt up to cover my shoulder.
“It’s nothing.”
“What do you mean it is nothing. Have you gone to see the doctor.”
“I said it is fine! It’s just a mosquito bite.”
“Watch your fucking tone when talking to me.” He bit out in annoyance making me roll my eyes.
“ And don’t roll your eyes at me or I will punish you.” He threatened as he looked intently into my eyes, daring me to defy him.
“Ermm!” I cleared my throat.
“Killian, what are you really doing here?”
“I have come to strike a deal with you.” He said as he plopped down on the couch.
“What!”
He slid a big file in front of me.
“I am not interested in whatever this is.” I said as I folded my arms on my chest.
“Take a look.” He ordered.
“ My father wants me to settle down before he can transfer our company fully to me. I want you to play pretend wife for a year and the baby is a Plus.” He starts to explain.
“So we pretend at least until everything is sorted and the baby is born. We will go our separate ways and say things didn’t work out. I will take utmost care of you.” He concluded and leaned further into the couch.
What an ass.
I picked up the file and peeked inside it. A clause made me stop in my tracks. My heart fell into the pit of my belly as I looked at the devil and he was staring right back at me, smirking.
God! I hope it is not what I am thinking.
“Killian, what did you do to my mom?”
Chapter 7Killian MaxwellI drove slowly into the narrow street. The sidewalk was filled with junkies and hookers, some bird-calling as we drove deeper into the street. God! I have a lot of work to do but instead I am stuck with a crazy emotional woman that I have to take care of. She cannot be trusted to take care of herself. I sighed deeply as I glanced to my right side to see Mia fidgeting in her seat. “Stop doing that.” I bit out as I looked back on the road. I felt her gaze, as she looked at me intensely—- if only eyes could kill.“What am I doing?” “You are shaking and it is distracting.” “We could go another time. I don’t want to deal with this, at least not now.” She pleaded quietly as she batted her eyelashes— unintentionally I think. She leaned further into the seat as if to make herself tinier. Fuck!“We have a lot to do tomorrow.” It was the only answer I could muster at that time.Silence settled around us as I turned to park in front of Mia’s childhood home. The fron
Mia“Scott! What did you do?”“What?” He asked. He sounded genuinely confused.“Why did you do this to me? I wanted to start a life here but no. You want me to stay there so you will keep playing the almighty big brother.” I said not caring that my tone was harsh. He deserved it after what he put me through.“I am not coming back. Get that into your thick skull.”“I genuinely have no idea what you are talking about.” He replied.“You made my boss fire me from my place of work. Right? You made the landlord kick me out..”I started to say but he cut me short. “Whoa! Stop right there. What do you mean?”“So you didn’t do it?” I asked instead of answering his questions. That bastard Killian. I can’t wait to get my hands on him.Don’t blame me for thinking it was my brother. He had friends that are well connected. I mean he once wanted to do business with a rich guy before everything fell apart.“I don’t know what you are talking about. Mom is really worried about you.” “I…I can’t co..” I
Mia His smirk widens as he leans more into the couch.“Nothing yet. But if you defy me then you will force my hands.” He said.“How dare you try to use my mom and brother to threaten me?” I asked as I feel anger burn in the pit of my belly.“It is a win-win situation if you ask me. You get to take money at the end of the deal. Your mom and brother also benefit from it.” “How can you stoop this low?” He chuckled darkly. “You have no idea how low I can go, Mia. And you don’t wanna find out.” He said in a low tone making his voice deeper.“ You are a monster, Killian. I hate you.”“I don’t care about your feelings.” He said coldly. He stood up and adjusted his suit jacket as he looked down at me intently. “And I will take custody of the baby when it’s born.”What!“What the hell do you mean? Once our deal is over, I will take my baby.” “Well then. Hope you have the best lawyers because I will slam you with lawsuits”Freaking Devil.“You can’t be serious about this, are you?” I aske

Are you okay?” Sandra said immediately she appeared at my side checking me all over.Embarrassing.“I am fine. This guy saved me.” I said as I pointed towards the young man who was smirking as he looked at me.“Oh! Fabian, you are here.” Sandra said immediately she looked at the handsome guy and her eyes lit up with a smile.“Mia, this is Fabian. Fabian, my best friend Mia.” “You talked about her a lot, you know.” Fabian joked as he took my hand and kissed the back of it.“Nice to meet you, beautiful.” “Same.” I said curtly as my cheeks heated up like a teenage girl. I withdrew my hand from his grasp immediately.Sandra chuckled a little. “Let’s all grab a seat. And Fabian, we have a lot of catching up to do.“We took a new seat and ordered some food. Sandra and Fabian chatted away and I only joined in when asked a question.“So Mia, how are
Mia “Miaa, what are you thinking?” Sandra said slowly as she inched closer to me.“I'm going to move away. I can’t stay here to train my child. Mom will find out and Scott will kill me.” I said in a rush.Sandra just looked at me. Even though she didn’t say it, I know she pitied me. I don’t want pity, I hate it so much.“Where on earth can you go? You literally have nobody else and you don’t have a job.” She asked.“You have to help me, Sandra. Please” I pleaded as I clutched her hands.“But..”“Please babes, please,” I said desperately.“Okay fine. As long as the baby is staying alive. I will help you. Just have to make some calls then I will get back to you.” She conceded. I know I am making the right decision. I had high hopes for the future— I thought by now I would be married to the love of my life and have my kids. But look at me now. I have ended up just like my mother. My mother was a single mother of two kids, Scott and I had different fathers. And they both abandoned us. I
