Chapter One

Anna’s POV

The Temptation In Andre Clark

Flee the temptations of youth. I’d heard that a million times at Sunday School. My mother had me memorize it every time that it had become a part of my subconscious.

Pursue righteousness. If you are going to go down, do it with the right person. My boyfriend.

But what was I supposed to do when the temptation was standing right by my window in the middle of the night, the rain thrashing all around him, and a small crate of beer in his hand? Was righteousness supposed to do that?

And like a trance, I stepped out of the way, letting him fold his long self into my room around 2 am. The thunder echoed in the back of my mind as he shook his damp hair. He wasn’t smiling. He never did.

“I know I shouldn’t be here,” he whispered, stepping further into the room and then sliding the beer onto the desk by the side of my bed.

I moved too, the back of my calf hitting the bed frame. “You shouldn’t.” My voice was throaty, mixed with sleep and something else. Something I knew I shouldn’t be thinking about. He heard it, because his eyes strayed from my face to the tender swelling of my breasts under the tube, my nipples poking out.

Fuck. Would it be weird if I grabbed a shirt now? Did I even want to do that?

I mean, I was never going to let anything happen. And I tried to remember to pursue righteousness. I tried to psych myself into reaching for the chair and snagging my Batman shirt. But I just stood there, a slight shiver running up my spine.

My eyes dropped to his damp sweatpants, and I felt a knot work its way to my throat. There was a bulge. It wasn’t doing a very great job at keeping my mind where it was supposed to be. So, I cleared my throat.

“What are you doing here, Andre? Did anything happen to Cole?”

He shook his head slowly. “Cole is fine.”

“So why…”

“Want a bottle of beer?”

I angled my head, confusion and need washing through me. But I didn’t refuse when the bottle was put in my hands, or when he leaned on my desk, bringing his bottle to his lips.

“I opened yours already.”

“What is this, Andre?”

He paused. “Hell if I know.”

“You can’t do this.” His bulge was getting bigger. I needed air. “You can’t come into the home of your best friend’s girlfriend in the middle of the night, looking like that and….”

“Looking like what, Anna?”

I opened my lips and pressed them shut again. I couldn’t breathe. It felt like something was lodged in my throat.

He leaned away from the desk. “You’re right. I should… what was I thinking? I’ll leave you. I’ll respect the relationship you have with my best friend even if every part of me is dying to taste you.”

For some reason, it was worse. It hurt, like hell, because I knew this couldn’t be real. Yet it was. And he was leaving. I didn’t want him to.

So, I took a long stride, planting myself in front of him. He moved in one swift second, grabbing my arm and tugging me between his legs. A sharp gasp escaped my lips, but that didn’t last. Because he leaned forward, planting his lips on my nipples, rolling the bead on his tongue through the tube.

Almost like he’d been dying to do that for a long time.

A jolt ran through me. I didn’t know what to do with my hands, so I kept them by my side, folded, my nails digging into my palm. His teeth clamped down lightly, and I felt it in my core. Sharp. Raw.

A moan echoed around the wall. I couldn’t tell if it was from me. All I knew was that I’d somehow pressed myself hard against him, my back arched, my core throbbing. I rubbed shamelessly across his thighs, needing to get to his bulge.

But he moved to my second nipple, his finger replacing his mouth on the first. I threw my head back, biting my lips. “I thought… “

“Yeah,” he breathed, pulling away. “I shouldn’t do this. I shouldn’t come into your room needing you like oxygen. I shouldn’t see you in the club dancing with him, while all I want is to take you home with me for looking at me with those doe eyes of yours and fuck you till they water. I shouldn’t want to bring you up to the desk right now and slide my fingers into you until my name falls from your lips over and over again. Until you forget all about Cole.”

My mouth fell open when he reached for my shorts, hooking his fingers into the waistband and pulling down until the cool air caressed my skin. He released a breath, looking into my eyes before looking down at my cunt.

It clenched, because it knew he was looking. Every part of me did.

Andre didn’t touch me there. Instead, his hands found my tits again. He stroked, like he had all the time in the world. But his eyes never left there.

Fuck.

I squirmed in his arms, pushing myself into him. He knew what he was doing. He knew I couldn’t handle it. My hand inched slowly to my cunt, and I palmed it, releasing a small whimper when it clenched again.

Painfully.

“What do you want, Anna?” Andre asked, his voice carrying the same desire that mine did. “Tell me.”

“I want you,” I whispered without hesitation, not minding that my mother was down the hallway. “I want you to make me come, Andre.”

“But you can do that yourself. Or Cole.” He was teasing me. “Your hand already found its way.”

I took it off immediately. “Andre…”

I knew it was wrong to ask, or even want it. But I did.

He leaned away then, taking his hands off me. “Get on the desk.”

My legs felt like jelly as I moved there, hopping onto it. He approached slowly and then whispered, his fingers just above my cunt. “I want to be inside you, Anna, but you have to be really quiet. I don’t want to wake your mother up.”

I bit my lip, feeling the rush of too many emotions all at once. He came impossibly closer, the heat from his body driving me insane. His finger replaced mine, stroking my clit once.

Just once.

It was my undoing.

I groaned. Loud. And I heard a door slam shut in the hallway, footsteps approaching. And just then, Andre slid two fingers inside me.

Chapter Eight: Morning After the LineI woke up slowly, like my body didn’t trust where it was.For a few seconds, I stayed still. Eyes closed. Breathing shallow. Waiting for something familiar to settle around me—noise from a hallway, my phone buzzing, the dull comfort of knowing exactly what came next.Nothing came.Just silence. Not the soft kind. Not peaceful. The kind that made you aware of yourself.Of where you were.Of where you weren’t.My eyes opened. The ceiling above me was too clean. Too perfect. No cracks, no marks, no history. Not mine.Right.Andre’s place.Everything from last night came back too quickly. The rain. The gate. The girl at the door. Him standing there like I’d interrupted something I was never meant to see.I swallowed and pushed myself up.The shirt I was wearing slipped slightly on my shoulder. His shirt.I noticed it immediately. Again.I tugged it back into place as it mattered.“It doesn’t,” I murmured. But I didn’t take it off.I swung my legs off

Chapter Seven: Lines You Don’t Cross I didn’t move right away after he left.I told myself it was because I didn’t know where to go.That wasn’t true.I just… needed a second. The place still felt like him somehow. Not in an obvious way. Nothing like cologne or anything like that. Just… the air. The silence. It shifted when he walked through it.I rubbed my arms, suddenly aware of how cold I still felt.“Get it together,” I muttered under my breath. One night. That was it.I pushed off the wall and headed for the bathroom.***The shower helped more than I expected. At first, the water was too hot. It hit my skin and I almost stepped back—but I didn’t. I stayed there, letting it sting a little. It felt… grounding.Like if I focused on that, I wouldn’t think about anything else. Not the dorm. Not my mom.Not Cole.Definitely not Andre. My hand pressed flat against the tile as I exhaled slowly.“Just one night,” I said quietly, like saying it out loud would make it stick. It didn’t.Be

  • Too Close to be innocent    Unwelcome

Chapter Six: UnwelcomeI stared at her.Not because I wanted to—but because my brain hadn’t caught up with what my eyes were seeing. She was completely naked.Rain soaked through my clothes, dripping from my hair, sliding down my spine, pooling at my feet—but somehow, that wasn’t what made me feel exposed. It was this.Standing outside Andre Clark’s building. At midnight. Looking like I’d been dragged through a storm. While a naked girl answered the door like it was the most normal thing in the world.“I…” My voice came out thin. “I’m looking for Andre.”She tilted her head, slow, assessing. Not embarrassed. Not surprised. Just… curious.“Of course you are,” she said, as if it explained everything.I swallowed. My fingers curled into my sleeves. “Is he—”“Busy?” she cut in, a small smile tugging at her lips. “Yeah. He’s busy.”Something in my chest tightened.I hated how quickly my mind filled in the blanks. The late nights. The girls. The noise through the walls Cole had joked about

  • Too Close to be innocent    The Penthouse

Chapter FiveAnna’s POVThe PenthouseI waited for six hours, calling my mother at intervals. All the calls were unresponded to, and by the time I was right outside the dorm, she already had fifteen missed calls sitting on her phone. Sighing, I dropped onto the steps outside, my limbs giving up on me. I knew I was right. I should never have come to Yale. But my mom seemed to think it was either an Ivy League University or nothing. She was wrong about a lot of things, and we were about adding this to the list. The earth seemed to have come outside to laugh at my situation as thunder struck, the sound reverberating through every wall. I had nowhere to go. And as if that wasn’t enough, I was just about to be drenched by the rain in the middle of summer. When thunder struck the second time, my phone vibrated against my thigh, and I jumped so fast that it fell to the ground, the screen shattering.“Shit!” I cursed, picking it off the tiled floor. “Shit! Shit! What the hell is happening

  • Too Close to be innocent    Blurred Lines

Chapter FourAnna’s POVBlurred LinesI stared at the bottle stretched out and the disinterested look in his eyes. It was the same brand from last night. I had to be running insane. I knew I should get back to the party. It was the right thing to do, knowing that Cole could be searching for me. Still, for some reason I couldn’t fathom, I moved closer to Andre, taking the beer from him. He grabbed an opener from his pocket, cocking the cap off while I still held it in my hand. And then, he grabbed a stick of cigarette from his pocket, bringing it to his lips and fishing for the light. “You shouldn’t smoke, you know?” I found myself saying. “It is bad for your health.”“I know.”“And you do it anyway?”“You are not here to talk about me, Anna,” he cut in with his obnoxious ease. Smoke followed from his lips, and he closed his eyes, as if taking it all in. He stayed that way for a while, his head pressed back against the stem of the tree. I would have thought he’d fallen asleep if he

  • Too Close to be innocent    Liar

Chapter ThreeAnna’s POVLiarThe word reverberated in every part of my being, and in that split second, I believed it. And I hated it. I turned around to face him, but that was a horrible decision as I didn’t realize how close he was. His grey eyes looked straight into mine, narrowed. I opened my lips and realized I had no idea what to say. In that moment, I was stunned. And it was very strange. No one could render me speechless. “Andre?”His eyes darted towards her. “Cindy, darling, can you give us a moment?”“Of course,” she drawled. I could tell she winked at him from her tone. “I’ll be by the oak tree. We have an unfinished discussion.”I wondered what it could be. Had he tried flirting with her before? I wouldn’t put it past Andre Clark, because apart from being heir to a multi-million conglomerate, he was also a world-class player.I just hoped Cindy knew that. His eyes returned to me, devoid of all emotions. His dark hair grazed his shoulders, and my eyes followed it. It h
