Eyra’s POV
[Dave: Let’s get a divorce.] The message from Dave—my husband—made me freeze instantly. My hands were shaking so badly that the thing I’d been dying to show him just fell to the floor, and I didn’t care anymore. My attention was now entirely on the short message displayed on the screen, which I hadn’t taken my eyes off for a moment. I hoped I’d misread it... I hoped he was just playing a prank, that this was all part of an anniversary surprise to make up for his absence last night. However, no matter how many times I pressed the exit button and then returned to the chat between Dave and me, the message didn’t change. He really did send that message and didn’t say anything else besides that. [We’ll talk about everything at home. Happy anniversary, Dave.] I replied with trembling hands. My chest felt like it had been struck by a sledgehammer, my stomach sank, and a nausea I’d never felt before suddenly washed over me. I ran quickly to the bathroom and threw up everything I’d eaten for lunch yesterday. Every last bit. Until only bitter fluid came out when the nausea returned. I staggered out of the bathroom, stared blankly at the entire room, sat down on the bed, and turned to the other side—the side where Dave had never once slept. We’ve been married for three years. Yet, all this time I’ve endured his cold demeanor, hoping things would change. He was forced into it, I know. But out of all the she-wolves who adored and respected him so much, why me? Why did he choose me, only to leave me to endure such a cold, loveless marriage? After several years without any physical contact, last month came as a surprise to me. Dave had returned from a business meeting in Miami. He was drunk and finally touched me for the first time. That one night changed everything—I’m pregnant with his pup. I wiped away my tears and let out a heavy, deep sigh as I recalled the time. Dave promised he’d come home last night, but there was never any sign of him, except for the bad news he sent me minutes ago. “Sign this right away so the process goes more smoothly. You can hire a lawyer and charge the bill to my account,” he said, the moment he finally came home. He didn’t even give me the slightest chance to speak. “Why, Dave?” I stammered, trying to hold back the sobs that almost broke because Dave hated to see me crying. “What is it about? I thought you intended to make things right when you said you’d come home–” Dave raised his hand, cutting me off. “You already know the answer. Do I have to repeat it?” I felt as if I’d been jolted by the flat, cold tone of his voice; I just kept my head down, clenching my hands while enduring the throbbing pain in my chest. He didn’t look at me at all—I could understand why, because that’s how it had been for the past three years. However, I never expected this to happen. “I...” I paused, pulling out the doctor’s report that confirmed yesterday’s test results. A small laugh escaped me as I spoke to him. “I’m pregnant, Dave. I’m carrying our pup.” Hearing my words, Dave—who had been trying to avoid eye contact with me—turned sharply toward me, staring at me. His jaw tightened, his gaze fierce, his eyes were red, as was his face. Before long, he snorted with a cynical, mocking laugh. “Don’t you have any other way, Eyra? After tricking me into sleeping with you, now you’re telling me you’re pregnant?” “W-what?” Right, he wouldn’t believe me… I knew that. But the most painful part was how he accused me of tricking him into sleeping with me. He was drunk the night we had sex. If he wanted to accuse me of taking advantage of him, then he should’ve known the answer already. After three years in a loveless marriage—without ever feeling his warmth—that night felt like a dream come true to me, even though he wasn’t fully sober. How could I refuse it? Dave stood up from his chair. Without looking at me, he turned around and started to leave. But at the doorway, his steps halted. “You don’t need to make a scene just to prevent this divorce. It’ll never work,” he said, then walked away. I stared at his back—which slowly receded, then disappeared—feeling utterly shattered. Three years of enduring life as nothing more than an accessory because he needed me to be his “luna” to satisfy the elders’ demands. Now, it had to end so bitterly. *** I sat in front of the vanity table, staring at my reflection there. I looked haggard and lifeless after reading Dave’s divorce papers. Yesterday, he promised he’d come home. I prepared dinner, a gift, and a pregnancy test with a positive result that I wanted to show him, but I’d finally spending the night alone. No celebration, no happy smiles over the good news I had planned to share with him, except just agonizing loneliness. I snapped out of my reverie and looked at the papers in my hand with a sense of unease. I’d tried to tell Dave the truth—that I was pregnant with our child—just as the elders had hoped we’d have an heir soon. But he didn’t believe me. A message came in, and I checked it without enthusiasm. It was from Dave, urging me to sign the divorce papers right away. I set the divorce papers on the bed, but not my phone. Then one notification caught my attention, so I immediately checked it and found some news articles on the pack’s website, and my heart seemed to stop beating. [After disappearing for three years, top model and member of The Night Hunter Pack, Elara Smith, has finally returned] Elara? Dave’s first love, Elara Smith, has returned? Is this the real reason why Dave insisted on divorcing me? I quickly checked the publication date of the article, and it was exactly as I’d suspected—it happened last night, when Dave left me waiting until I fell asleep at the dining table and woke up to a divorce message from him. There were also several photos and videos showing the beginning of their encounter. With trembling hands, my chest about to burst, and tears ready to spill, I pressed the “play” button on the screen, and everything I shouldn’t have seen was right there. The video showed Dave walking in and finding Elara curled up near the lobby entrance. He pulled her into his arms without a second thought. He held her tightly and at the very last moment, he kissed her on the lips. My hands were shaking violently. My phone slipped from my grasp and fell onto the bed. How stupid of me… to ignore my intuition—leaving me waiting all night, still hoping everything would finally get better. Now he wanted a divorce—undoubtedly—because of Elara’s return, and I can do nothing but weep over my misfortune. I reached for my cell phone and clutched it tightly against my chest, then glanced at the documents I’d left on the bed. I don’t know what I’m feeling right now. She’s back. So that means, even if I cried my heart out, Dave would never choose to keep me.Eyra’s POV I shook my head in disagreement with what they said. Mr. Wynter is a businessman who not only runs his own business but also the Wynter family’s, since he is the sole heir to the Wynter family. He had mentioned that before, when he asked me to work with him years ago.I turned to Grandma, trying to explain my point of view, but she gave me a brief look before issuing an order.“We’d better all head to the conference room now,” she said, and everyone in the living room began walking toward the conference room, which was just one room away from where we were.Upon arriving in the conference room, instead of a discussion to find common ground—or the outcome of the three-week waiting period’s negotiations—what followed was an interrogation.I sat in the middle, the center of all judgment, as if I had committed a grave sin.“I was just meeting with a colleague. What about Alpha Dave, who openly brought a woman into our home and filed for divorce?” I said in my defense. However
Eyra’s POVHe said I was getting in the way of everything Elara loves? Does that include marrying him? Is that what he meant? If so, it seems someone needs to knock some sense into him so he realizes that I would never marry him—no matter how much I love him—if it weren’t for his strange and sudden request.“Fine,” I replied without a fight, pulling my fingers away from the dress we’d been holding together and stepping back. “You can have it. I’ll find another one.”I turned around and was about to leave. But, before I went, I caught Dave staring at me with a questioning look. However, I ignored it and went on to choose a dress with a style almost identical to the one I’d given up for Elara. The differences were in the color and the accents on the sleeves.Although this wasn’t the first dress I’d chosen, it seemed to look better on me.I headed straight to the register, where Elara and Dave were already waiting. Dave took out his card and handed it to the cashier.“Check out two dress
Eyra’s POV“Do you see? This dress fits me perfectly,” said Elara as she twirled around. However, perhaps because she stepped on something, the dress—which had initially looked perfectly proportioned on her—no longer seemed to fit.One of her shoulders slipped down, nearly exposing half of her breast. Some staff members turned around, while others rushed toward Elara and, together with her assistant, set about fixing the dress she was wearing.Several jewels had come loose and were scattered on the floor, so other staff members were busy picking them up.“What are we going to do? The dress is ruined and the jewels are scattered everywhere. Mr. Wynter is going to be furious,” muttered another, her face pale.“We’ll check the dress first and try to fix it; if that doesn’t work, then we’ll contact the specialists to repair it,” the store manager said, then walked over to Elara and examined the side of the dress, furrowing her brow.“Does this dress fit you perfectly, or did someone make
Eyra’s POV I turned my head at the sound of her voice and saw a woman walking toward me, staring intently at me.“Take your hands off it,” she snapped, then brushed my hand aside. “That dress is the only one of its kind in the world. It was custom-made for a famous model.”“A famous model? Who?” I asked.Mr. Wynter didn’t go into detail about this dress, but there’s no way he wouldn’t know which dress I was referring to in my text message earlier.“Um… I don’t remember, but let me check. Please wait here and don’t touch anything. If you damage even one dress, you might not be able to afford to replace it,” she said, causing me to let out a heavy sigh as I glanced down at my outfit.Indeed, no one would believe if I said that I’d spoken directly with Mr. Wynter, their boss, who said I could choose any one of the dresses—whichever one I liked. And I never expected to find the dress I’d sketched myself—one that had been lost for so long.If I told them I’d once been a world-famous model
Eyra’s POVI could skip dinner, but not breakfast. I’d told the maids time and again that I wouldn’t sit with Dave and Elara, but what happened was beyond my wildest imagination.Dave came up to the attic with Elara.“What do you want?” I asked as Elara walked into my room without knocking. She scanned the room, waved her hand, then pinched her nose. “This room is so stuffy. I’m amazed anyone can stand being in here.”Isn’t that because of you?“I’d like to go back to my own room, then,” I replied. “Well… unfortunately, my family is coming, along with my best friend,” she said. “Again?” Dave asked, which meant he hadn’t been told about this at all. Or maybe it was all just Elara’s excuse to keep me from sleeping in a decent room.“Yes, babe. Didn’t I already tell you that my best friends are coming?” Elara said with a panicked expression that Dave would probably never notice because he was blinded by love. “You… don’t mind, do you?”“Of course not,” Dave replied, smiling as he strok
Eyra’s POVWhat kind of nonsense is this?“Answer me, Eyra. Who do you choose?” Dave asked insistently while giving me a sharp tug.“Hey! Don’t be rough with her,” Mr. Wynter interjected before turning to me. “I understand everything you’ve explained, Miss Noir. Go home with him. If anything happens, call me.”Before I could nod—and before Mr. Wynter could explain anything else—Dave had already grabbed my arm and dragged me into the car.“Ouch!” I yelped, but before I could protest, Dave hopped into the driver’s seat and sped off at high speed until we arrived at the mansion. It didn’t stop there; he dragged me inside and flung me onto the sofa.I whimpered while clutching my stomach. My pup will be okay, right? He hasn’t even been born yet, but he’s already having to endure such unpleasant treatment from his father.“Explain yourself,” Dave demanded, standing with his hands on his hips as he glared at me. “Did you do all this on purpose to make the elders cancel our divorce petition?
