Iris’s POV

Jasmine’s words caught me off guard.

“What does that mean?” I asked, instantly perking up in curiosity and slight dread.

She ran a hand through her hair, like she was thinking whether to say something or not keep quiet. She glanced at the door, then sighed. “Exactly what I said.”

I waited for her to speak, narrowing my eyes. “So you’re not telling me to stay away from him?”

“No,” she said again, slower this time. “I’m not warning you for his sake. I’m warning you for yours.”

A chill ran down my spine, and I sat up straighter despite the way my ribs ached. “That doesn’t make any sense,” I said carefully. “Are you trying to say your brother is a bad person? But Rowan’s been… kind to me.”

“Yeah,” she muttered. “That’s the part that worries me.”

I blinked. “What?”

Jasmine walked to the window with her arms folded. Her expression was tight.

“I’ve seen Rowan be many things,” she said slowly. “I’ve seen him furious. I’ve seen him cold. I’ve seen him make decisions that would make

Iris’s POVI couldn’t hold it anymore. I burst into laughter. It started as a small snort, but it became an uncontrollable laughter that shook my whole body. Pain shot through my ribs, but I still couldn’t stop. Tears pricked my eyes as I clutched my side, gasping for breath.Chloe’s head snapped toward me, her face twisting into a glare so sharp it could kill. My laughter only made her angrier.“Glad you find this amusing,” she snapped, her voice dripping venom.I tried to respond, but another wave of laughter hit me, and I was too busy trying not to fall over. With a sharp scoff, she turned again and left, slamming the door so hard it almost shook the frame. The man stood there for a moment, staring at the closed door, then he shivered dramatically. “God, I really hope she never becomes Luna… or I’m in so much trouble.”That set me off laughing again, though I quickly tried to control it before I destroyed my ribs completely.Silence finally settled between us, and I blinked at th

Iris’s POV“What are you snapping out of?” a voice said from the door.My breath caught.I looked up and immediately groaned.Of course. It had to be Chloe. How didn’t I hear her? Was I so lost in thought? She stood at the door with her arms crossed over her chest, and her blond hair curled to perfection. She had that familiar sneer glued to her face.“What do you want?” I asked, not bothering to hide the exhaustion and irritation in my voice. She smiled sweetly. “Just came to check on the little stray that everyone has been fussing over.”I didn’t respond. She tilted her head. “You know, it’s funny. You’ve only been here for a few minutes, and already you think you matter. You’re even talking back at me.”I released another groan in response. She didn’t take the hint. “I just thought you should know,” she said, walking into the room, “Rowan is mine. We’re getting engaged soon.”I blinked. Then I blinked again.“Congratulations,” I said flatly. “What does that have to do with me?”Chl

Iris’s POVI stared at the closed door for a long time, my mind spun with several thoughts.Show me around?I clenched my fists tightly as my heart slammed against my ribs. For days, this room had been my safe hiding place. Every time the door opened, I braced myself. And now, I was supposed to willingly walk out into the pack?It was getting harder to breathe.Jasmine’s voice echoed in my head. “You’re not a prisoner.”It made me feel worse, because now it was my choice. If I stayed locked in here, it wouldn’t be because someone forced me. It would be because I didn't want to face what was outside.I swallowed hard.I needed to calm myself down and think clearly.Immediately I finished eating and taking the meds, I threw off the blanket.I swung my legs out of the bed and slowly stood. Pain flared in my side, but it was manageable. I took a few slow steps with one hand on the wall for support. My legs still trembled, but they were stronger than before.I limped slowly to the window.

Iris’s POVI didn’t move. Neither did he.The air was charged, and tense. My heart pounded in my chest, my mind kept telling me that this was a bad idea, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away from him as an unknown emotion rushed through me. I didn’t know what it was, and I was scared of finding out Rowan’s fingers grazed my cheek gently. His lips parted, just slightly, and I was pretty sure I wasn’t breathing anymore.Then—Knock. Knock.“Iris?” Jasmine’s voice pierced the silence. “I’m here with your meds.”The moment shattered.Rowan blinked and pulled his hand back abruptly like he had just touched fire. He stepped away quickly, his eyes darting to the door.I turned my face to the side as heat rushed to my cheeks. The door creaked open.Jasmine walked in holding a small tray. Her eyes immediately landed on Rowan, then on me. Her eyebrows lifted, but she said nothing. The silence that followed was incredibly awkward.“I was just… helping her back to bed as she was injured,” Rowan said

Iris's POVI didn’t answer Rowan.I looked away from him and took another step down.Pain shot through my entire side, almost causing me to freeze up, but I clenched my jaw and forced my leg to move, moving step after step, ignoring the way my hands trembled and my vision began foggy.“Iris,” he said again, his voice was firmer now. “You’re going to collapse.”I didn’t stop. The next step was shaky, my grip on the railing slipping a little. My knees buckled, but I didn’t let them give out.“I know you don’t trust me yet,” Rowan continued. He didn’t move. He was just standing there, to allow me to make my choice. “But this is not strength. This is punishment. You’re just punishing yourself.”His words stung. I would have turned to glare at him if I had the strength to. I took another step, grunting in pain. And that’s when it happened. My foot slipped.Pain shot through my chest as I lost balance. I tried to grab the rail, but my fingers were too weak and they slipped. Everything spun
