ANYTA'S POV

“Hold on, I'm coming,” I called out as I hurried towards the door, praying the doorbell hadn't woken my very energetic toddler.

When I opened the door, Clay leaned one shoulder against the frame, his charming grey eyes warm with amusement.

He shook his dark hair out of his face and beamed at me as he raised his hands, holding two paper bags.

“Hi, I brought lunch.”

A pleased smile tugged at my lips as I opened the door wider and stepped aside so he could enter.

“Sorry the place is a mess,” I murmured after closing the door and trailing after him into the living room.

“I was in the middle of cleaning when you knocked.”

Clay's intense gaze trailed over me, lingering on my hair then the oversized T-shirt I had on with some jean-shorts.

“What?”

“You don't look like you were cleaning.”

I rolled my eyes as I bent to pick up a stuffed purple unicorn.

“And what kind of look would a person who was cleaning have?” I furrowed my brows as the question left my mouth.

SIENNA'S POVI walked into the living room that morning and promptly stalled as I noticed the woman on the couch. The second oldest Ashbourne woman calmly raised a glass of wine to her lips as she flipped through what looked like a fashion magazine.I checked my wrist watch, and it was a little over 4PM.“Isn’t it too early for wine, Mrs. Ashbourne?” I asked as I moved fully into the room. She raised the glass for another sip, then replied,“It never too early for wine.”A small smile pulled at my lips as I took in her straight-backed posture on the velvet sofa, her manicured fingers wrapped around the crystal glass, the large diamond on her finger catching the firelight from the chandelier. She was who I aspired to be. And I knew we'd have gotten along better if she wasn't such a cold bitch.I smoothed my blouse, composed my expression into polite neutrality, and crossed to her at a measured pace.“Good evening, Monica,” I said softly. She lifted her eyes to me for the first time, onl

SIENNA'S POV“Did you talk to my brother?”I rolled my eyes as I halted the swiveling chair, and picked up the pen on my desk.“Yes.”“And?” Leonard urged with muted desperation.“He doesn't suspect anything,” I answered. “He didn't ask me why Anyta had us both arrested and it doesn't seem like he knows about her son.”“Their son,” her corrected.I grounded my teeth together in a flash of anger. “I don't see how that's relevant, you understood me perfectly.”Leo let out a soft, knowing laugh that had me clutching the pen in a death grip as another wave of anger surged through me.“What else?” He asked.I shrugged, exhaling a long breath. “I may have confronted him about my doubts
”He didn't say anything, probably waiting for me to go on. And when I said nothing else, he chuckled. And there was a smile in his voice as he asked, “your doubts about what?”“Him and Anyta.”“What the fuck?”My eyes rolled around again as I leaned back in my seat and started a slow swivel.“You don't under

    EVERETT’S POV“Bloody hell
”I tossed my phone onto the cherrywood desk, and dragged a hand down my face.Frustration
it seeped through my pores, tightening my core.My office had always served as a comfort spot in the company, but right now, even the plush decor and the coolness from the air conditioner did nothing to tamp down the anger brewing in my chest.“Always something,” I mumbled bitterly. My phone screen still held the news alert like a fresh wound:ASHBOURNE EMPIRE HEIRS ARRESTED IN SCANDALThe weight of that headline hadn’t lifted all morning. And although I'd practically threatened Anyta into dropping whatever case she had on Sienna and Leo, I still couldn't completely shake off the feeling that they'd perhaps done something severely terrible.Something she couldn't tell me, for some reason. The intercom suddenly buzzed, and I pressed the button before I even realized.“Yes?”“Sir, your wife's here to see you,” my assistant said. For some stupid reason, my mind darted to

AnytaI attempted to smile. "No. Just tired."Grandma Jo waited for a very long time, her sharp eyes seeing so much farther than I wanted she had seen. She didn't pressure it, though. She reached out and grabbed Teddy, who had just entered, waking up his sleepy eyes from his nap. She pulled him onto her lap and kissed his forehead."Then rest, child," she said softly. "Don't carry everything on your own. You've done enough."I relaxed back, letting her words sink in, but the burden within me never went away. The room was filled with the smell of stew, and Teddy's gentle humming pierced the silence. For a brief period, it seemed safe and normal. And then the TV in the corner flickered to life. I hadn't even realized it had been turned on, quietly running in the background. A stark red title flashed across the screen.BREAKING NEWS: ASHBOURNE EMPIRE HEIRS ARRESTED IN SCANDAL.I gasped.Grandma Jo's head whipped towards the screen. Her fingers closed harder around Teddy. AnytaThe house was quiet that morning. Teddy lay on the living room floor, playing with his toy car. I sat on the couch, watching him, my heart so full I was sure it would burst. Every little laugh he made, every sound, every little movement of his tiny hands—was a symphony to my ears.I still couldn't wrap my head around him being home. Safe. Breathing. Laughing again. There was a gentle knock on the door. I tensed for a moment, my chest pounding. I remembered Everett's visit, his fury, his threats. But this knock was slower this time, hesitant, as if from one who wasn't in a hurry.I rose up from where I was and made my way to the door. When I opened it, my breath stopped."Grandma Jo," I whispered. She was standing in the doorway, wrapped in her shawl, her soft eyes on my face. The morning light enhanced her small size, her frailness, but her voice was strong."Child," she breathed, "may I enter?""Certainly." I stepped aside quickly. She entered, and the moment her gaze fell upon
