Lydia POV

The silence only lasted a few seconds.

Then, just as I expected, someone broke it.

The head of Legal, a silver-haired man named Mr. Wallace, adjusted his glasses and leaned forward.

“I appreciate the sentiment, Ms. Lydia,” he began carefully, “but we still have to protect the company, sentiments don’t pay the bills.”

I nodded.

“Of course.”

He looked relieved.

“However…”

His relief disappeared.

“…protecting the company is no longer our first objective.”

A few eyebrows rose around the t

  • Too Late To Love Me: I Already Left With His Twins   Effort

Dave Yes, I proposed to the love of my life, Lydia. I’m still not sure how I managed to say the words without my voice giving away how nervous I was, but somehow I did it, and she said yes. I’m pretty sure that makes me the luckiest man alive. And before you start wondering about the ring, the size, the sapphire, and how I managed to figure out exactly what she would like, let me tell you because, honestly, I deserve some credit for this one.The ring size was actually easier than it sounds. Remember when Lydia and I had that conversation about communication and what our relationship was going to look like? She was sitting there talking, and I was being annoyingly affectionate, wrapping my arms around her and generally finding excuses to touch her. At some point, I took her hand and casually circled my fingers around hers while we were talking. I wasn’t measuring her or doing anything suspicious. At least, I don’t think I looked suspicious. I simply paid attention. The moment I had a

I didn’t even hesitate. “Yes.” His eyebrows lifted slightly. “Yes?” “Yes.” I laughed through the tears. “Yes, yes. Obviously yes.” The smile that broke across his face was one I knew I would remember forever. He stood almost immediately, and I barely had time to wipe my cheeks before he leaned down and kissed me. It wasn’t rushed or demanding. It was so gentle that, for a moment, I felt like I was something fragile in his hands, like I was precious. His hands rested carefully against me, his touch soft and deliberate, and the tenderness of it made my heart ache in the strangest, sweetest way. I closed my eyes, completely caught up in the moment, and somehow forgot how to breathe. Completely. I was so lost in it that I didn’t realize I had stopped taking proper breaths until he pulled back slightly. “Lydia.” I blinked. He smiled. “Lydia.” “What?” “You need to breathe.” My eyes widened. “Oh my God.” I immediately covered my face, and he laughed. I could feel heat rushing into m

Lydia POVDave was still kneeling beside me, his attention focused on my feet as his hands worked gently over the aching muscles. I leaned back in the chair and let my eyes wander upward, allowing myself to take in the sky above us. It had changed completely since we arrived. A few hours ago, everything had been bright and golden, but now the last traces of daylight were fading into soft shades of blue and lavender. Clouds stretched lazily across the sky, their edges catching the remaining light from the setting sun. I watched them for a while, enjoying the strange peace that came with doing absolutely nothing. No phone calls. No emails. No children asking me for something. No crisis to solve. Just the sound of the evening around me and Dave’s hands occasionally moving over my feet. Then I realized his hands had stopped.I frowned and looked down, expecting to find him distracted by something, but Dave wasn’t looking at my feet anymore. He was looking at me. I raised an eyebrow, waiti

Lydia POV“No.”“Good.”He laughed.“I got a chef from your favorite restaurant.”My eyebrows lifted.“You did?”“Yes.”He placed the first plate between us.“The appetizers are a combination of things I know you like. Nothing too heavy because I don’t want you complaining that you’re full before the main course.”I looked at the plate. There were delicate little bites arranged neatly across it, each one looking almost too pretty to touch.“This is…”I paused.“Very fancy.”“I know.”“You did all this?”“I arranged it.”“Which means you called people.”“Technicalities.”I smiled. He explained each dish, telling me what the chef had used, how one component had been prepared, and why he’d specifically requested it.I picked up the first bite. The moment it touched my tongue, I paused. My eyes widened.“Oh.”Dave smiled.“Good?”I nodded slowly.“Oh, wow.”The flavor unfolded gradually—savory first, then a subtle sweetness, followed by something citrusy that cut through the richness perf

“Anna!”My voice bounced through the garden.I stopped right in the middle of the pathway, staring at the ridiculous amount of effort that had clearly gone into whatever was happening ahead of me.“What is this?”I looked around again.“Hold up.”I narrowed my eyes.“I hope I’m not walking into somebody else’s surprise or party.”Because this was not a stroll. This was not women in their thirties walking around talking about life while taking cute pictures. This was an entire production. There were warm lights strung between the trees, candles flickering along the edges of the pathway, flowers arranged in places that looked almost too intentional, and a beautifully set table sitting beneath the glow of the evening sky.I slowly shook my head.“This Anna babe…”I muttered under my breath.“This looks really fancy.”I looked behind me.Nothing.Ahead of me, the pathway continued. To my left, there was a hedge. To my right, more flowers and trees. There wasn’t an obvious detour. So, with

Lydia POV “Yes.” “Okay.” “Don’t be late.” “You’re the one who invited me.” “And I’m telling you not to be late.” I laughed. “Okay, bye.” “Bye, babes!” The call ended. I stared at my phone. I should have known something was off. But honestly, at that point, I was too relieved to have an excuse to get out of the house. I hadn’t really dressed up in a while. Not properly. Most of my days recently had been some combination of comfortable clothes, hospital visits, recovery, conversations with Dave, conversations about Dave, conversations involving the children, and generally trying to figure out what my life was supposed to look like now that my memories were back. So, for once, I decided to play dress-up. Just a little. I opened my wardrobe and stood there for several minutes. I didn’t want to wear anything too serious. It was just a walk. A stroll. A casual little outing with Anna. Nothing that required an actual outfit. Eventually, I pulle

Lydia’s POVThe inside of the house was even worse than the outside.Worse, because now I had to physically stand inside it and accept that this was where I was expected to live. The space swallowed me the second I stepped in.The entrance opened into a massive living area with floors so polished I
