Dave POV

“I’m trying to be involved,” I said carefully, trying to keep my tone level. “You could have at least told me my children’s birthday was this week.”

The second I said my children, I saw her expression change.

Not loudly.

Not dramatically.

But enough.

“Your children?” she repeated softly.

I looked at her directly.

“Yes. My children.”

“Interesting,” she said. “Because for six years they were apparently only mine.”

That one landed straight in my chest.

The twins had gone completely silent

  • Too Late To Love Me: I Already Left With His Twins   Divorce

Lydia POV“We never actually finalized the divorce properly.”The room went still.I continued carefully.“We separated emotionally. Practically. Physically.”I swallowed once.“But legally?”Silence.“We’re still tied together.”Dave looked at me quietly now.No interruption. No defensiveness.Nothing.And somehow that made this harder.I forced myself to continue.“If we’re going to co parent properly… I need closure properly too.”My voice stayed calm.Controlled.But softer now.“I can’t build healthy boundaries while technically still existing inside a marriage that already died years ago.”That landed heavily between us.Dave stared at me for a long moment. Then finally nodded once.Slowly.Like he already expected it.“…Okay.”Just that.No argument. No persuasion. No emotional manipulation.Just okay.I think somehow that hurt more.“I’ll contact my lawyer,” he said quietly afterward. “I’ll get the papers prepared.”I nodded once.“Thank you.”And suddenly the room felt strang

Lydia POVTiny shift. But noticeable.I continued carefully.“They’re willing to give you a proper chance.”For the first time since I entered the apartment, Dave genuinely looked emotional.Just… relieved.Deeply relieved.I continued anyway before the atmosphere could soften too much.“They want consistency. Stability. Actual effort. Not random appearances whenever you feel guilty.”His jaw tightened slightly.“That’s fair.”“And they do not want media involvement.”That came sharply.Firmly.“None.”He nodded immediately.“Agreed.”“No photographs leaked accidentally. No public redemption father arc. No strategic parenting appearances.”“Lydia.”“I’m serious.”“I know.”His voice stayed calm.“I agreed already.”Good.Because if I ever saw my children become emotional accessories for reputation management, I would genuinely bury him professionally.I leaned back slightly.“So that’s the first thing.”He nodded quietly.“And secondly,” I continued, “we need structure.”That immediat

  • Too Late To Love Me: I Already Left With His Twins   Private apartment

Lydia POVBy midday, I had already made up my mind.Honestly, once Madame Eloise speaks, your options reduce dramatically. Not because she forces you.Worse.Because she says things that sit inside your head and start making sense against your will.So the entire morning passed in a strange blur.Meetings.Client reviews.Campaign approvals.Media restructuring. At some point somebody was passionately explaining brand positioning to me and I realized halfway through that I had not absorbed a single word because my brain kept replaying:You are raising children, not soldiers.Very irritating woman.By around 5 p.m., I finally decided I did not want to drag this conversation till another day.If I postponed it longer, I would either lose the courage entirely or get angry again.Neither option was productive. So I messaged Dave.Meet me at this address in thirty minutes.I sent him the location of one of my private apartments instead of my house immediately after.Deliberately.Because a

Lydia POVWhich technically? She kind of did. Even almost retired, that woman still carried power like perfume. Elegant. Sharp. Dangerous. The moment she saw me, she smiled warmly. “Lydia.” “Madam Eloise.” I walked toward her carefully. Immediately suspicious. Because elderly women who smiled calmly before 8 a.m. were usually planning emotional violence. She gestured for me to sit. And the moment I did, she crossed her legs gracefully before speaking. “I’ve been hearing about everything happening between you and your ex husband.” Ah. There it is. Dave. Of course. Honestly I should have known immediately. At this point that man was becoming a recurring emotional infection in my life. I leaned back slowly. “Madame Eloise…” “No no,” she interrupted gently. “Let me talk first.” Dangerous sentence. Very dangerous sentence. I stayed quiet. She studied me carefully for a few seconds first. And suddenly her expression softened. Not pity. Something warmer. Proude

  • Too Late To Love Me: I Already Left With His Twins   Rude

Lydia POV Heavy. Complicated. Exhausting. I leaned briefly against the wall outside their room before exhaling slowly. Today had been too much emotionally. Dave talking to them. The twins processing everything. Watching Ava quietly absorb information exactly like me. Watching Eli weaponize emotional honesty with terrifying efficiency. And somehow through all of it, the thing bothering me most was that Dave had actually handled the conversation well. Annoyingly well. I hated that part. Not because I wanted him to fail. God no. But because it complicated things. It would have been easier if he remained emotionally incompetent permanently. Instead this man had apparently gone online, researched child psychology like he was preparing a corporate presentation, and showed up speaking like somebody actively trying not to damage children emotionally. Disgusting behavior honestly. Inconvenient growth. I went downstairs afterward and opened my laptop immediately because unfo

Lydia povEli shrugged immediately.“I think he talks too much.”Ava shot him a look.“That’s not what he meant.”“What? He does. He talks like he is writing a speech inside his head.”That was unfortunately accurate.Ava turned back to me.“He said we don’t have to trust him immediately.”That made me pause slightly. That sentence… was careful.Too careful.Almost like it had been rehearsed.I exhaled slowly.“And do you believe that?”Eli thought for a moment.“I don’t know,” he said honestly. “But he didn’t sound like he was lying.”Ava nodded slightly.“I think he was trying.”That word again.Trying.It was becoming dangerously popular in this household.I straightened slightly.“And how do you feel about him being involved more?”The room went quiet again. This time not from confusion. But from evaluation.Eli swung his legs slightly against the couch.“I don’t think he will disappear again,” he said eventually.Ava looked at him instantly.“You can’t know that.”“I know,” he sa
