Lydia POV

Marcus kept showing up anyway.

Which was… irritating.

And increasingly difficult to ignore.

He started small.

Always small.

“Lunch?” he asked one afternoon, leaning lightly against my office door like he had nowhere else to be.

I didn’t look up from my laptop.

“I eat at my desk.”

“That sounds like a cry for help.”

“It’s efficiency.”

“It’s sad.”

I typed.

“Send an email.”

“That feels cold.”

“It is cold.”

Silence.

Then

“I’ll bring lunch then.”

I paused.

Looked up.

He was already halfway

  • Too Late To Love Me: I Already Left With His Twins   Romantic

Lydia POV“No.”“Good.”He laughed.“I got a chef from your favorite restaurant.”My eyebrows lifted.“You did?”“Yes.”He placed the first plate between us.“The appetizers are a combination of things I know you like. Nothing too heavy because I don’t want you complaining that you’re full before the main course.”I looked at the plate. There were delicate little bites arranged neatly across it, each one looking almost too pretty to touch.“This is…”I paused.“Very fancy.”“I know.”“You did all this?”“I arranged it.”“Which means you called people.”“Technicalities.”I smiled. He explained each dish, telling me what the chef had used, how one component had been prepared, and why he’d specifically requested it.I picked up the first bite. The moment it touched my tongue, I paused. My eyes widened.“Oh.”Dave smiled.“Good?”I nodded slowly.“Oh, wow.”The flavor unfolded gradually—savory first, then a subtle sweetness, followed by something citrusy that cut through the richness perf

“Anna!”My voice bounced through the garden.I stopped right in the middle of the pathway, staring at the ridiculous amount of effort that had clearly gone into whatever was happening ahead of me.“What is this?”I looked around again.“Hold up.”I narrowed my eyes.“I hope I’m not walking into somebody else’s surprise or party.”Because this was not a stroll. This was not women in their thirties walking around talking about life while taking cute pictures. This was an entire production. There were warm lights strung between the trees, candles flickering along the edges of the pathway, flowers arranged in places that looked almost too intentional, and a beautifully set table sitting beneath the glow of the evening sky.I slowly shook my head.“This Anna babe…”I muttered under my breath.“This looks really fancy.”I looked behind me.Nothing.Ahead of me, the pathway continued. To my left, there was a hedge. To my right, more flowers and trees. There wasn’t an obvious detour. So, with

Lydia POV “Yes.” “Okay.” “Don’t be late.” “You’re the one who invited me.” “And I’m telling you not to be late.” I laughed. “Okay, bye.” “Bye, babes!” The call ended. I stared at my phone. I should have known something was off. But honestly, at that point, I was too relieved to have an excuse to get out of the house. I hadn’t really dressed up in a while. Not properly. Most of my days recently had been some combination of comfortable clothes, hospital visits, recovery, conversations with Dave, conversations about Dave, conversations involving the children, and generally trying to figure out what my life was supposed to look like now that my memories were back. So, for once, I decided to play dress-up. Just a little. I opened my wardrobe and stood there for several minutes. I didn’t want to wear anything too serious. It was just a walk. A stroll. A casual little outing with Anna. Nothing that required an actual outfit. Eventually, I pulle

  • Too Late To Love Me: I Already Left With His Twins   See you at five

Lydia povI was halfway through an email when my phone rang. Not just any email either. One of those emails I enjoyed writing because it gave me an excuse to throw a complicated mess at my team and watch them figure out how badly they could panic before remembering they were professionals. The subject line currently read: URGENT: STREAMER MONEY-LAUNDERING CASE — INTERNAL RESPONSE DRILL The case itself had been trending since that morning. Kairo Vee, one of the biggest gaming and lifestyle streamers in the country, had found himself at the center of a financial investigation after the Financial Crimes Unit reportedly froze several accounts linked to a digital marketing company he owned. According to reports, the company had been receiving unusually large transfers from a network of offshore betting platforms and cryptocurrency wallets. The problem was that Kairo had spent the last three years building himself as the harmless internet millionaire. He streamed video games. He revi

Dave POV I was genuinely glad I had that conversation with Lydia. Not because I had suddenly solved every problem that came with being back together, because obviously I hadn’t. We had barely started figuring out what being together again actually meant, and already there were a hundred little things we hadn’t discussed. How often I’d travel. How we’d manage the children. How we’d balance work and family. The list was probably longer than either of us wanted to admit. But at least we were talking. That mattered to me. I loved that about us. Even with all the history between us, even with all the things we’d done wrong to each other, we were finally at a point where we could sit down and say, “This is bothering me,” or “I’m worried about this,” without turning it into a war. Although, if I was being completely honest, I hadn’t been particularly pleased about the sleeping arrangement. Not even a little. I’d stood there the previous night listening to Lydia explain that she wante

Bernard stepped in, hands clasped neatly in front of him.“I apologize for disturbing you, ma’am. I came by earlier, but there was no response.”I rubbed my eyes. “I was asleep.”“Yes, ma’am.”He said it so respectfully that I almost felt bad for sounding irritated.Almost.“Would you like dinner?”

Lydia’s POVThe inside of the house was even worse than the outside.Worse, because now I had to physically stand inside it and accept that this was where I was expected to live. The space swallowed me the second I stepped in.The entrance opened into a massive living area with floors so polished I
