Ariana’s POV

The great hall no longer looked like a place for feasting.

Guards stood at every door, and every window had been shut and barred.

Nobles who had smiled and danced only hours ago now sat pale and silent along the walls, waiting their turn to be questioned.

I sat beside Kael on a raised platform, my hands folded tightly in my lap, watching servant after servant walk forward and answer the same questions.

“Where were you tonight?”

“Who did you speak with?”

“Did anyone give you anyth

Ariana’s POVI didn’t remember running down the stairs. I didn’t remember pushing past guards or stumbling through the palace doors. One moment I stood frozen on the balcony, and the next I sprinted across the courtyard, and my heart rang louder than my own footsteps.“Stop!”My voice tore through the night air, but neither of them heard me.Kael’s massive black form had already fully emerged, fur rippled across powerful shoulders. And across from him, Damien’s body twisted violently, it was half wolf, and half man, and claws were already fully extended.“Please, stop!”I then threw myself between them just as they lunged.“Ariana!”Two voices shouted my name at once, one was deep and rough with panic, and the other sharp with fear.Suddenly both men froze completely, and their bodies were locked mid-motion.Inches away from tearing into each other with me caught directly between them. The courtyard fell into stunned silence.Warriors on both sides stood frozen, and weapons were hal

Give Her BackDamien’s POV“That’s my child.”The words left my mouth before I could stop them, and the moment they hung in the night air, something inside me shattered completely.I then stared up at the balcony where Ariana stood frozen, her hand still pressed against her stomach, her face pale even from this distance.Every second I spent looking at her felt like a blade twisting deeper into my chest.“Ariana!” I called out, taking another step toward the gates. “Come down here, please.”But she didn’t move.Kael stepped directly into my path, and his silver eyes were hard as steel.“She’s not going anywhere,” he said.My wolf snarled inside me, and rage boiled up so fast that I nearly lost control of my own voice.“That is my mate.”“She was your mate,” Kael said coldly. “You rejected her, remember? In front of your entire pack.”The words hit harder than any physical blow could have.“I made a mistake.”“A mistake.” Kael’s voice stayed level, but something dangerous simmered be

Ariana’s POV“Stay inside,” Kael said, his voice sharp with command. “Do you understand me? Whatever happens, you stay inside this palace.”“Kael…”“Ariana.” He gripped my shoulders gently but firmly, and his eyes were burning into mine. “Promise me.”I swallowed hard, my heart already racing at the sound of Damien’s name.“I promise.”He studied my face for a long moment, like he didn’t fully believe me, and then turned and walked quickly toward the palace gates, and guards fell into formation behind him.I stood alone in the hallway, and my whole body trembled.Damien.He was here, after everything, after weeks of silence, after believing I meant nothing to him, he had come.I told myself I wouldn’t go, I told myself I would honor my promise and stay hidden inside like Kael asked. But my feet carried me toward the nearest staircase before my mind could catch up, and it climbed higher and higher until I reached a small balcony overlooking the front gates.I then pressed myself again

Ariana’s POVThe banquet hall glowed with hundreds of candles, and music drifted through the air like something out of a dream I didn’t belong in.I stood near the edge of the room, watching nobles danced and laughed, watching Lyra glide through the crowd like she already wore a crown upon her head. She reached Kael’s side before I could even take another breath.“Kael,” she said sweetly, looping her arm through his without asking. “Dance with me.”He hesitated, and his eyes flickered briefly toward me across the room.“Lyra…”“One dance,” she insisted, already pulling him toward the center of the floor. “For old times’ sake.”He glanced at me one more time, something apologetic in his expression, but the crowd had already started clapping, already expecting the King to dance with the Princess everyone believed he would marry.I forced a smile and looked away.It shouldn’t hurt, I told myself over and over as I watched them move together across the polished floor. Lyra’s golden gown

Damien’s POV“Say that again,” I said and my voice was barely above a whisper. The rogue flinched, and his whole body shaking under the weight of my stare.“She’s alive, Alpha. Living inside the Lycan Kingdom.”I stood so fast my chair crashed backward against the floor.“How long?”“I don’t know exactly.” The rogue’s voice cracked. “Weeks, maybe longer, a powerful man found her the night your guards threw her into rogue territory.”My chest tightened painfully.“What man?”“Nobody knows his name for certain,” the rogue said. “But everyone in the rogue lands whispers about it. A massive black wolf tore through three of our own that night, killed them before they could even scream, and carried her away like she belonged to him.”The room around me blurred slightly, rage and something else, something sharper and more painful, twisted together inside my chest.“Get out,” I said quietly. My Beta hesitated. “Alpha…”“I said get out!”Everyone scrambled from the room, dragging the trembli

Damien’s POVThe wine glass shattered against the wall before I even realized I had thrown it.Red liquid dripped down the stone, and slid slowly toward the floor, and then I stared at it without really seeing it at all.Another sleepless night, another empty bed and another room that smelled like nothing but my own misery.“Alpha.” My Beta stood cautiously near the door, his eyes flicked toward the broken glass, and then back to me. “The council is waiting.”“Let them wait.”“Alpha, they have been waiting for an hour.”“I said let them wait!”My voice came out as a roar, and my Beta flinched, quickly and bowed his head and backed out of the room without another word.I pressed my palms against my temples, and tried to push away the pounding pressure building behind my skull.I had not slept properly in weeks, every time I closed my eyes, I saw her face, tears streaming down her cheeks while guards dragged her away from the Moon Ceremony.“Please,” she had whispered. “Please, Damien.
