Bad Luck

If that day was a long day, then the next two days felt like two weeks.

They were dragging seconds by seconds. However Sarah was holding it pretty bravely. It looked absurd to herself how lightly and well she was coping with this reality. Or maybe, the reality hadn’t hit her yet?

For Sarah, all these dramatic events in her life felt nothing but surreal. Maybe she had fallen asleep and was sucked in a very long nightmare. Or perhaps she had been summoned in a novel and she had turned into one of the characters. But there was no way that this was happening for real in her life. More bewildering was her own behaviour. Sarah was this kind of girl who would not even dare to raise her eyebrows to strangers, let alone to men! She had always been warned by her father to stay away from them and she had never really been in the company of any men except for her classmates. Yet, here strangely, she had challenged and even exploded at this man who was supposed to be her kidnapper, this monster who had murdered people right in front of her. This can’t be possibly right? This can’t be the real Sarah. The real one would have had a cardiac arrest right by the moment she had witnessed this traumatic scene!

However, it looked like a good thing to her. She would keep on believing she was inside of a novel and none of this is real. In this way, she would be able to survive here.

Sarah didn't get any chance to escape during these days but she had already planned it. During the day, she had explored the house, which was situated in the middle of a vast mass of trees. It looked like she was locked in the middle of a forest with no cars nor roads in sight. But, there was obviously a main road as her kidnapper went out very early in the morning. The house was like a palace, consisting dozens of rooms and it was very easy to avoid the devil.

They barely saw each other and if they did, it was by pure coincidence and miraculously Devlin treated Sarah with pure courtesy, nodding his head in salute and strode away.

Today, while strolling outside, Sarah noticed a hole in the fence at the back of the house. Following her mind, she had tried to pass through it, and to her great surprise, she had succeeded! Nevertheless she decided to escape at night, after dinner as by this time, the monster always enclosed himself in his study room.

Now, it was nine o'clock sharp and Sarah was all dressed and ready but nervously scared. She was wearing a black jeans and a red checked shirt, over which she has added a black hoodie and her hair tied in a pony tail. Yes, fitting clothes.

The day before, Devlin had brought them to her, God knows where he stole them but she didn't care anymore as long as she was not wearing his damn clothes. Securing the laces of her ankle boot once again, Sarah took a deep breath then quietly walked out of the room, phone in her pocket.

She quickly and easily made her way to the back of the house through the back door which was fortunately unlocked. At the back, she found no alarms, no cameras so she knew, she was safe. Once outside the house, she switched on her phone’s torch as there was no light, then she proceeded.

The night was horrifying. Darkness ruled over. Not even a single star was in sight! The sky was overmuch covered with big clouds, announcing a future downpour. The world was ghost quiet except for the occasional cold breeze swinging away the trees and leaves, causing a rough, disturbing sound. Her heart started to bounce vigorously inside her chest when she heard a sudden owl's cries. Her throat ran dry. This was thrilling like a drama, but she had to continue!

I have to overcome this fear! I am the protagonist of this thriller, she convinced herself. She would never accept to stay prisoner in this beast's house.

Miraculously, whenever she thought of him, Sarah’s anger rose and everything became possible. So, pushing aside unwanted thoughts, she made her way quickly to the hole in the fence.

She sighed. Thank God, she reached there. However few seconds before she was about to pass through it, it started raining.

She cursed, “God, my damn luck!”

But there was no backing out now. She had to continue and once again she thought about her freedom and persevered. Luckily Sarah found herself soon on a road but the problem was which way must she took? The right one or the left? Anyway, she sighed, whichever side she took, she would hopefully move further away from here. So, choosing the right side way, hoping it to be really the right one, Sarah set off.

Strangely, she felt a sense of peace, walking in the rain, knowing that her mission was accomplished although she didn't know what she would do once she found herself on a main road in this dark night and in this rain! Nevertheless she continued and soon later she started running in the rainfall, trying all her might to escape this nightmare.

Nonetheless one hour later, Sarah still found herself walking, a little slower this time. There were thunderstorms rumbling somewhere in the distance. The sky has turned an ominous color; heavy with cloud, an occasional flash of lightning splitting from far. It was raining wildly and she couldn't see a single thing let alone a main road! She was tired and drained. Her legs started to shake and they were aching badly. Stubbornly she continued a few meters then, suddenly her legs felt numb, she tripped over and fell down, right in the middle of the dark road.

''Damn it! How can I continue now,'' she sighed through ragged breath.

Sarah looked at her phone which was luckily waterproof. She gasped, it was nearly midnight! She’d been walking for nearly three hours now and no car in sight. Exhausted and panting, she started to lose hope when out of the dark, a car was heard, coming in her direction. Instantly hope lit up again and Sarah quickly sat upright. She let out a happy sigh this time.

The car came towards her with such a speed that she almost believed it would crush over her. Abruptly, it came to a halt, only few meters in front of her. Unfortunately, Sarah couldn't see the driver as she was blinded by both the abundant rain and the car headlights which were fully focused on her. She could only hear the door being opened and slammed hardly, followed by footsteps.

Narrowing her eyes, she tried to figure out the figure of the driver, who was getting closer and when she did, it was too late. The person was already next to her and when she raised her head...she felt like saying her death wish!

Her heart dropped in her chest and her breathing stopped.

  • Torn Apart By Fate   The end

Three years later. The first sign of dawn appeared, the calmness and loneliness around the house near the mountain started to fade away as the few birds started to chirp cheerfully. In an upstairs room, the light was still on, the light which her mum had switched on last night. Silently, the door opened and her mother appeared, a sad smile on her lips. She breathed out a distress then switched off the light to close the door behind her, with a sigh again. She didn't go and disturb her daughter as it was now a usual habit to see her like this every morning, not on her bed but by her table with the diary opened in front of her.For the past three years, no one knew what happened to her during that holiday. She kept on telling them that she couldn't remember, but deep inside, her mother knew that something hurtful had occurred and that each and every night, her daughter's blood turned into ink, writing out the words she couldn't speak aloud. In the room, a broken woman has fallen asleep

searched her face worriedly.''Are you okay?" She frowned.‘You must know that it was never meant for us to meet each other. We just met by pure coincidence. Or maybe our meeting was just a mistake- done by fate.’Devlin's words kept on echoing louder and louder in her mind. It was unbearable. Sarah squirmed away from Maria’s arms and covered her ears with shaky hands. She was in the middle of a nightmare. She covered her ears more tightly, hoping his voice would go away but in vain. It was getting louder and harsher.‘My wish is that you go back to your life and live it as if you never met me! Forget every single day you spent with me. Forget every memory we shared-forget-just forget everything about me.’Sarah screamed fearfully. Tears rolling down her face to dip on her lap. The pain was too deep and too much. She couldn’t bear the burden of it! Why had fate brought me this treasure only to rip it away from me so soon- too soon! She asked in her mind. Why ? Why?! Now her own voic

  • Torn Apart By Fate   Goodbye

Jordan let out a heavy sigh this time. He wanted to help Devlin but a more powerful strength was ruling over the events; that is fate. “Then at least, go and visit, one last time.”Devlin shook his head. He lowered his stormy eyes.''Dev, she's still unconscious. Go and see her one last time. Tell her everything that is on your heart. You won’t meet again anyway. So, better to lighten your feelings now than to miss this opportunity forever.” As Jordan’s words hit him, Devlin met his gaze. Jordan gave him a reassuring smile. Only then, he nodded. His heart skipped a beat then started to gallop. His legs felt suddenly weak and his jaw tightened to an extent that it made a sound. His fingers hardened in a tight fists, his rough fingers were piercing his palm, almost bleeding it. His gaze, his gaze was soft but sorrowful. Devlin gulped before he muttered sadly,''Sarah...”On the small bed in front of him, laid a weak and unconscious lady. The lady who met him by coincidence, the lady

  • Torn Apart By Fate   Is it the end?

“You think you are a genius, huh?! You crept over my skin and pretended to the same as my son, you think I would think twice before killing you! But you are wrong, wrong!” His rage mirroring Devlin’s. They were both breathing sharply, the murderous eyes glued on each other. Cesare sent another punch on his nose and bled it. Devlin’s fury was closed to explosion! He returned the punch back on Cesare’s jaw. The latter didn’t mind the pain as he launched once again on Devlin. He locked his forearm around his neck and squeezed. Devlin clenched his teeth as he started to gasp for air. Cesare dragged him from behind, their limbs struggling against each other. It was like a bull fight! Please, please, make him confess quickly! I don’t have much time! Devlin prayed with his throat tightened and his breath sharpening. Devlin was not weak. In fact, he was better at combat than Cesare was. But he had to control his power! He knew in one blow he could kill Cesare but he could not risk this! Wit

His gaze instantly flickered to hers and they instantly darkened. For a second they stared into each other's eyes, and she heard her own heart beating, fast and loud, echoing in her ears like the sea in a shell. His eyes dark with anguish, hers bright with tears. Devlin is here! Sarah let out a sigh and slumped her shoulders. Within the blink of an eye, the five men raised their firearms towards him and Oscar knelt down, seized her tied wrists and lifted Sarah on her feet again. ''Now that there's no escape from here, why don't you remove this mask?'' Cesar asked as he approached Devlin with an air of arrogance and menace! Devlin lifted his hand without any hesitation, started to take off the scarf. Sarah’s heart stopped! What was he doing?! She shook her head. No! She shouted mentally. When Devlin removed it completely, Cesar stared at him in shock and after some tensed seconds he laughed out, an amused sound. A smile met his eyes.''Wow, my Lucky! You really took me off guard

  • Torn Apart By Fate   Her Saviour

Why was life always so complicated? So fraught with problems? Like walking on eggshells, you could hear them breaking at every step you took. If only it was easier to see ahead and know the consequences of what choices we made! Devlin moaned inward. Emotion and tension flooded through him as he thought of Sarah. Not sending her away, he admitted, was indeed his greed. He knew it was his greed but he had kept not wanting to hear the reasons why he should send her back. He kept making excuses of how it was okay not to send her. So, something bad really happened! As he broke all speed records, Devlin’s scared heartbeats were whispering only one word, Sarah. Please, don’t let anything happen to her, please. For the first time in his life, Devlin prayed vehemently. Sarah’s head ached. She could feel an unfamiliar bump on her forehead.Slowly she drifted out of her unconsciousness but opened her eyes abruptly when she remembered what had happened! At eight o'clock, she had left Devlin's h

  • Torn Apart By Fate   Disaster

''You're wrong! You're so wrong!” She cried impatiently, certain that she must be in the midst of a living nightmare.Devlin sighed and put an arm around her trembling shoulders.‘'Sarah, you know what kind of life I lived and what kind of man I am. You witness how dangerous- You must go back and resume your life in your world. I promise you, you will find someone to love...” Sarah shook his hand off her shoulder at once.''I-I can't go back to that life, not that I've found you, Devlin.” She cracked and finally sobbed, unable to prevent the hot, frustrated and frightened tears from trickling down her face. ''You don't, you don't understand...”''Of course, I do!''The cold, harsh tone of his voice hit her like a blow as Devlin roughly shook her shoulders. He swore under his breath.'' Can't you see that the time we spent together wasn't real?! It was, ” he swept his hands distractedly through his hair, ''it was an idyll- time out of mind. Surely you can see that it has little to do

  • Torn Apart By Fate   Confession

“To-tomorrow? You knew my address?" Sarah could not fight it. The feeling of betrayal was back. She was only trying to comfort him! ''Yes, a very long-time ago.”''But why?”Devlin threw her a blank stare, silencing her on the spot. He means what he said! Sarah read it in his eyes. There was no way to change his mind. And...and how could she go away without confessing her love? Her heart in her hands, Sarah ran towards him to once again grab his arm.''Devlin! Don't do this- don't...” She begged breathlessly, her breathing sharpened. Snatching his arm again from her grip, Devlin continued to move away. However the following words escaped from her lipsand unwillingly, Sarah broke her own promise.''But Devlin! I love you!'' The walking man froze. And so did Sarah. She gulped. A thunder stricken Devlin turned to face her. His face was pale, his eyes widened in its saucers. A tensed silence fell. Devlin’s thoughts started to run, breaking speed record. • Torn Apart By Fate   Despair

Devlin instantly recognised this name. He was a very famous and merciless gangster of the time. He was a drug dealer, he often attacked, threatened big companies to be allowed to use the company name to import drugs in the country. Without any doubt it must have been the same case for his parents, Devlin concluded darkly. Even though he had committed several murders, still until this day nobody had been able to stop him as he never left proofs and evidence. From this day on Devlin’s life took a sharp turn. The smile in his eyes was replaced by a glitter of anger. From the eyes of the society he had suddenly disappeared. Everybody thought that he had gone abroad for further studies but only Jordan knew what he was up to. Jordan had urged him to do the otherwise but the Devlin he knew was lost forever. In front of him was a man with no heart, a man with only one purpose that is vengeance. Thus, Devlin had left his company in Jordan’s care and he had moved away for his vengeance. After
