Serena pressed herself against the cold stone wall, holding her breath as those amber eyes pierced the darkness. Lucian Draven had found her hiding place. Her heart hammered against her ribs, each beat a reminder that she was trapped.

"I can smell your fear, little wolf," Lucian said, his deep voice cutting through the storm's fury. He shifted forms, muscles and bones rearranging until a man crouched at the cave entrance, rain dripping from his raven-black hair.

Serena tried to move deeper into the shadows, but pain shot through her broken arm. A whimper escaped her lips before she could stop it.

"You're injured." It wasn't a question. Lucian's eyes narrowed as he studied her in the darkness. "The fall broke more than your pride, I see."

"Leave me alone," Serena managed, her voice weaker than she wanted. "I'm not going back to either pack."

Lucian stepped fully into the cave, his massive frame blocking the entrance—and any hope of escape. Water pooled around his bare feet as he approached, moving with the careful grace of a predator.

"You misunderstand the situation," he said. "You have no choice."

Outside, new howls cut through the rain—Silver Ridge wolves, closing in on her scent despite the storm.

A smile curved Lucian's lips. "Your father is persistent. Tell me, did he look surprised when his precious daughter turned into the monster from our oldest legends?"

Serena flinched at the word "monster," but anger flared inside her, pushing back against her fear. "I'm not a monster."

"No?" Lucian crouched before her, close enough that she could see water droplets clinging to his eyelashes. "Then what are you, Serena Vale? What kind of wolf turns pitch black with purple eyes?"

The strange power stirred inside her again, responding to her emotions. Serena felt it rise to the surface, making her skin tingle.

Lucian's eyes widened. "Fascinating," he whispered, reaching toward her face. "Your eyes are glowing."

Serena jerked away from his touch. "Don't."

The howls grew louder. The Silver Ridge pack was at the base of the cliff now, searching for a way down.

"We don't have time for this," Lucian said, all trace of wonder gone from his face. "Your former pack will tear you apart if they find you. And while watching Caius Vale destroy his own daughter might be entertaining, I have other plans for you."

"What plans?" Serena demanded, trying to sound braver than she felt.

Lucian's smile returned, sharp as a blade. "Come with me, and you'll find out."

A howl, much closer this time, made them both turn toward the cave entrance. Through the curtain of rain, Serena could see wolves moving along the base of the cliff.

"Time's up," Lucian said. "Choose now. Me or them."

Serena looked at the Alpha of the Nightfang Pack—the most feared wolf in the region. His reputation for ruthlessness was legendary. The stories said he'd killed his own father to take control of the pack.

But the alternative was worse.

"Fine," she whispered. "I'll go with you."

Lucian nodded, as if he'd never doubted her answer. "Can you stand?"

Serena tried to push herself up with her good arm, but pain and exhaustion made her limbs shake. She slumped back down, ashamed of her weakness.

Without warning, Lucian scooped her up into his arms. Serena gasped, both from the pain in her broken arm and the shock of being lifted so easily.

"Put me down!" she hissed.

"Would you prefer to crawl?" Lucian asked coldly. "We need to move fast."

Before she could argue further, he carried her toward the cave entrance. Serena held her breath as he paused there, scanning the forest below. The rain had eased to a gentle patter, and moonlight broke through the clouds, illuminating the clearing.

At least four Silver Ridge wolves prowled below, noses to the ground. Among them, Serena recognized the gray fur of her father, Caius Vale.

Lucian tensed, adjusting his grip on her. "Hold tight," he murmured. "This will hurt."

Without further warning, he leaped from the cave entrance, landing on a narrow ledge below. The impact sent fresh waves of pain through Serena's broken arm, and she bit her lip to keep from crying out.

One of the wolves below raised its head, ears pricked.

Lucian didn't hesitate. He jumped again, moving from ledge to ledge down the cliff face with impossible agility, carrying Serena as if she weighed nothing.

When they reached the bottom, he didn't set her down. Instead, he turned away from the hunting party and sprinted into the dense forest, moving so swiftly the trees became a blur around them.

A howl rose behind them—they'd been spotted.

"They're faster in wolf form," Serena said, panic rising in her throat.

"Yes," Lucian agreed, not slowing. "But they don't know these woods like I do."

He veered sharply, ducking under low branches and leaping over fallen logs. The sounds of pursuit grew fainter as he wove a confusing path through the darkest parts of the forest.

After what seemed like hours but was probably only minutes, Lucian slowed, approaching a small stream. The water rushed black and swift, swollen by the recent rain.

"We cross here," he said. "The water will hide our scent."

Before Serena could protest, he waded into the frigid stream. The icy water made her gasp as it reached her dangling feet and legs.

"It's deep in the middle," Lucian warned. "Hold your breath if you need to."

The water rose to his chest as he pushed forward against the current. Serena clung to his shoulders, trying to keep her broken arm above water. The cold numbed some of the pain, but made her entire body shake violently.

When they reached the other side, Lucian carried her a few hundred yards further before finally setting her down beneath a massive oak tree. Its thick canopy had kept the ground beneath relatively dry.

Serena collapsed against the trunk, exhausted and shivering. Her wet hair clung to her face, and goosebumps covered her bare skin.

Lucian shrugged off his jacket—the only clothing he'd managed to grab before shifting—and tossed it to her. "Cover yourself."

She pulled it around her shoulders with her good hand, grateful for even this small warmth. "Why are you helping me?"

Lucian crouched beside her, listening to the distant howls. They were moving away, following a false trail. Relief flickered across his face before his expression hardened again.

"Don't mistake this for kindness," he said. "You have something I want."

"What could I possibly have that you want?"

Lucian's eyes gleamed in the darkness. "Power. The kind that comes once in a generation."

He reached out, gently tracing a finger along her cheek. This time, Serena was too tired to pull away.

"Do you know what an Onyx wolf truly is, Serena Vale?"

She shook her head.

"They're not cursed," Lucian said softly. "They're blessed. Onyx wolves have abilities other werewolves can only dream of. Healing. Strength. Magic that hasn't been seen in our world for centuries."

The energy inside Serena stirred at his words, as if responding to a call.

"I don't understand," she whispered.

"You will." Lucian stood, looking down at her with those calculating amber eyes. "I'm going to teach you to control it. To use it."

Fear and curiosity warred inside her. "Why would you do that?"

Lucian's smile sent a chill down her spine that had nothing to do with her wet clothes.

"Because when you learn to master that power," he said, "you're going to help me destroy the Silver Ridge Clan. Starting with your father."

The howls had faded completely now. The hunters had lost their trail.

"Rest now," Lucian said, turning away. "We move again at dawn. My territory is still half a day's journey from here."

As he walked to the edge of the clearing, Serena called after him, her voice stronger than before.

"And if I refuse to help you?"

Lucian paused, looking back over his shoulder. The moonlight caught his profile, turning his features to sharp angles and shadows.

"Then I'll leave you to your fate," he said simply. "But first, I should warn you—there's someone else hunting Onyx wolves. Someone even I fear."

He disappeared into the darkness, leaving Serena alone with his jacket and his words.

She pulled the coat tighter around her shoulders, mind racing. Power? Magic? None of it made sense. All her life, she'd been told Onyx wolves were cursed, dangerous creatures to be destroyed.

What if everything she knew was a lie?

In the distance, a new howl rose—different from the Silver Ridge wolves. Lower, more menacing.

Lucian emerged from the shadows, his expression grim.

"We need to go," he said urgently. "Now."

"What is it?" Serena asked, struggling to stand.

Lucian's eyes reflected the moonlight, turning them to liquid gold filled with something she hadn't seen in them before.

Fear.

"The Huntress," he whispered. "She's found us."

  • Torn Between Alphas   Chapter 147: The Last Dawn

The world was gone. There was no sound, no sky, no blood nor air — only light, endless and consuming. Serena drifted in it like a leaf in a river, her consciousness breaking apart into sparks. For a moment, she thought she was dead. But death, she realized, shouldn’t feel this loud inside her veins. The light rippled. She fell through it. And then the silence cracked open.A pulse of silver and black spread across the horizon as her body slammed against a surface made of starlight. When she opened her eyes, she was standing in a place beyond anything mortal — a vast expanse of luminous fog and floating shards of memory. Every step she took sent ripples through the ground, and in those ripples she saw flashes of her life: her first howl under the full moon, her laughter beside Elias, her battles with Lucian, her promise to the gods. Her breath trembled. Where am I?“The Ethereal Nexus,” a voice whispered from everywhere and nowhere.Serena turned sharply — and her heart nearly stopped.

  • Torn Between Alphas   Chapter 146: The Storm Between Worlds

The dawn after the war came slow and hollow.Smoke still curled from the scorched ridges where the Onyx Wolf had torn through gods, witches, and fate itself. But the world did not sing in victory—it whispered.Serena stirred. The air felt wrong. Too still. She blinked against the weak sunlight, her breath hitching as she tried to remember where she was. Lucian was beside her, silent, his golden eyes watching as if afraid she might vanish again. Her body trembled when she rose, the ground beneath her humming with leftover energy. When she looked down, faint shadows rippled under her skin like ink trapped beneath glass. And worse—when the wind shifted, she heard it.“Serena...”The voice was soft. Familiar. It came from the breeze itself. Her throat tightened. “Elias?”Lucian froze. “Don’t,” he said quietly. “He’s gone.”But she shook her head. “No. He’s calling me.”The warriors of Silver Ridge and Nightfang gathered in silence behind them. Some still bore bandages; others bore empty e

  • Torn Between Alphas   Chapter 145: The Choice of Wolves

The night had never been so loud. Not even during the Blood Eclipse. Not even when the Onyx Wolf had first howled and cracked the sky open. Now, everything was unraveling. The battlefield still burned where the shadows had receded, a wasteland of blackened trees and scorched soil stretching for miles. Silver Ridge and Nightfang warriors lay scattered across the plain—some wounded, some dead, all staring at the same gaping tear that had replaced the heart of the forest. It pulsed like a wound in the world itself, a hole of liquid darkness where Serena had vanished.Lucian stood at its edge, chest heaving, eyes wild with the kind of grief that stripped a man down to the bones. His claws were still out, dripping with the blood of the council’s last hound. But his heart… his heart had been ripped from him with Serena’s disappearance.Elias stumbled toward him, half-shifted, his storm-gray fur streaked with ash and blood. “She’s gone…” His voice cracked under the weight of those words. “Lu

  • Torn Between Alphas    Chapter 144: Into the Maw of Shadows

The battlefield had never known silence like this. One heartbeat ago, Serena Vale had stood as a goddess among wolves, her wings of shadow and storm stretching wide against the eclipse. Then, in the blink of an eye, the darkness devoured her. The eclipse pulsed blood-red, the world shuddered—and she was gone.Gone.The silence was deafening. Wolves who had been snarling, tearing into shadow-hounds, and bleeding for their packs now stood frozen, staring at the empty space where she had been. Even the beasts conjured by Fenris recoiled, trembling as if the absence of the Onyx wolf was more terrifying than her presence.Lucian Draven staggered forward, his breath ragged. His amber eyes burned, searching, refusing to accept what every instinct screamed. His bond with Serena was a thread, stretched thin, thinner, ready to snap. He clutched his chest, snarling at the invisible wound in his soul.“No,” he growled, the sound scraping agai

  • Torn Between Alphas    Chapter 143: The Shattered Prophecy

The battlefield was no longer earth, no longer sky. It was a rift—a scar where realms collided. The eclipse pulsed overhead, its blood-red light dripping like molten fire across the clearing. The howl Serena had unleashed still echoed, even though her lips had fallen silent. It wasn’t just sound—it was power. It tore through trees, split stones, and shook the wolves to their marrow. Many had collapsed, their bodies pressed flat to the earth as if gravity itself had doubled. Others clutched at their chests, gasping as though invisible claws squeezed their hearts. At the center of it all stood Serena.Or what remained of her.Her aura had split into two streams, jagged and raw, like rivers of fire and storm tearing from a single mountain. One burned crimson-gold, tethered to Lucian. The other blazed silver-blue, tied to Elias. They weren’t flowing outward—they were tearing her apart. Every pulse of light was a scream from her s

  • Torn Between Alphas   Chapter 142: The Fractured Heart

The battlefield was silent for a heartbeat after Fenris’s strike. Then the silence shattered.Lucian and Elias crashed to the ground, both writhing under the black fire that ate through their veins like molten poison. Their wolves—storm and flame—flickered weakly around them, struggling to manifest.“NO!” Serena’s scream ripped through the air. Shadows erupted from her in jagged arcs, slamming into the earth hard enough to crack the ground. Every wolf on the field—ally, enemy, shadow-beast—froze in place, caught in the weight of her aura. The eclipse itself dimmed, as if the crimson moon feared her rage. She staggered forward, her body half-human, half-wolf, silver and violet fire cracking across her skin like lightning trapped under glass. The bond threads connecting her to Lucian and Elias flickered violently, one pulse from snapping.Fenris’s laughter rolled like thunder. He stood unscathed in the middle of the carnage, his monstrous form blotting out
