The storm had blown over, leaving the villa wrapped in an eerie, heavy silence. Akira stood in the courtyard, the damp stones cool against her bare feet, her breath visible in the chilly night air. She clenched her fists, feeling it again—that strange pulse under her skin.

It was weak, but steady, like some vast entity was breathing through her veins.

She raised her hand and summoned a shadow. It formed instantly, winding around her fingers in a flawless spiral. A bit too flawless. Before, she’d had a grasp on things, but it always felt a bit shaky, like it could slip through her fingers. Now, the shadows flowed like silk, reacting even before she thought about it.

Her chest tightened. This kind of power shouldn’t feel so effortless.

The shadows flickered, twisting as if they were alive. Suddenly, they shot out in sharp tendrils, hitting the stone wall with a hiss that left behind dark scorch marks.

Akira stumbled back, her heart racing.

“Akira.”

She turned around to see Kaidën standi

The mirror on the far wall rippled, distorting what it reflected. Akira’s reflection tilted her head a heartbeat later, her crimson eyes shining while Akira’s remained dark. She had been staring at it for what felt like minutes—maybe hours? Time blurred when the whispers invaded her mind. “You’re breaking,” the reflection whispered, a smile curling on her lips that was both familiar and foreign. “Piece by piece. You can feel it, can’t you? The cracks.” Akira dug her nails into her palms, forcing herself to turn away. The taste of iron filled her mouth—blood from biting too hard. No. She crossed the room quickly, yanking the heavy drapes shut. Darkness enveloped the chamber, leaving only the sound of her uneven breaths. She pressed her back against the wall, her fists trembling with tension. It’s not real. It’s not me. But the voice lingered, curling through her thoughts like smoke. Not you? Then who had the blade when it cut him? Who savored the sound of their screams? Akira’

  • Torn Between Two Moons   The Weight of Secrets (chapter 44)

The council chamber felt unusually cold, even with the fire still crackling in the hearth. In the center stood Kaidën, the flickering torchlight etching sharp shadows across his face as he faced Lord Renji. Akira’s father looked at him with that calculating calm that had often thrown men twice Kaidën’s age off balance. His white robes swept across the marble floor, and his hands were clasped behind him. The only hint of his unease was in his dark eyes, wary and reluctant to hold Kaidën's gaze for too long. “You knew,” Kaidën said, his tone flat. He kept his voice steady, but the underlying weight made the attendants at the edges of the chamber shift uncomfortably. “From the start, you knew the seal was tainted.” Lord Renji smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “I was aware it was unstable. There’s a difference.” “Unstable?” Kaidën stepped closer, the sound of his boots echoing off the stone. “We’re not talking about a cracked wall here—this is your daughter’s mind we’re discussin

Akira’s chest rose and fell as the whispers dug deeper into her mind, weaving through her thoughts like tendrils of smoke. You fight… but you’re already mine. She pressed her nails into her palms hard enough to draw blood, but even that pain couldn’t drown out the voice. It wasn’t loud at all—it didn’t need to be. Each word resonated through her bones, coaxing and tempting her.“Akira, stay with me.” Kaidën’s voice sliced through the fog, sharp and urgent. He gripped her shoulders tightly, holding her steady, his presence anchoring her against the storm brewing inside. She shook her head fiercely. “It’s inside me—I can hear it—”“Then fight it,” he urged, his tone fierce, though his eyes reflected fear. “You’ve battled worse and come out on top.”The shadows swirled around her, writhing like snakes, brushing against Kaidën’s arms as he held her. But instead of pulling away, he clenched his grip, letting the darkness scrape against his skin. “Look at me, Akira. Don’t listen to it. List

Akira stirred, waking to the soft flicker of firelight, her body feeling as heavy as stone. For a moment, she wondered if she was still trapped inside the seal, enveloped in suffocating darkness. Then she heard the distinct sound of crackling wood—sharp and undeniably real. As she moved, a blanket slipped off her shoulders, and her surroundings started to come into focus. She found herself in a neglected room of a villa, its walls cracked, with a faint light flickering from the hearth in the corner. Someone was approaching. “Easy now,” Kaidën said, stepping into view. His coat was torn, dirt smudged on his face, but his eyes held a steady, watchful gaze. “You were out for hours.” Her throat felt raw and scratchy. “The monster—?” “Sealed. For now,” he replied, placing a cup of water on the low table next to her bed. “But your father said—” He paused, his jaw tightening. “He said it won’t hold forever.” Memories crashed over her like waves—the shadows writhing, the metallic taste

  • Torn Between Two Moons   The Binding (chapter 40)

The chamber trembled as the creature clawed its way forward, its limbs scraping against the stone like steel on bone. With every movement, whispers filled the air, trying to worm their way into Akira’s mind, seeking to unravel her. "You belong to us… your blood is our birthright…" Akira pressed her palms to her temples, battling to shut it out. Her shadows flickered uncertainly, caught between obeying and wavering toward the beast. "Akira!" Kaidën’s shout cut through the chaos. He stood firm, sword raised, though his arms trembled from the force of his last strike. "Focus on me. Not it. Me!" Her gaze snapped to him. His voice was the anchor she needed, steady amidst the turmoil. The world narrowed down to the steel in his grip and the fire in his eyes. Her father’s voice followed, firm and commanding. "The binding needs three points. I’ll create the circle. Kaidën—you protect the vessel." "What vessel?" Kaidën shot back, confusion evident. Her father turned to her. "Her." Kai
