Chapter 3

Author: Cutie Kitty
Whenever we went out, I was usually the one who paid. Even when Chloe and Lily were on the verge of failing their classes, I had tutored them and helped them scrape by.

I had given them everything I had.

But what did I get in return?

Betrayal.

In my previous life, when Yoana framed me, I begged Chloe and Lily to help prove my innocence. Instead, they backed Yoana and testified that I was the one who had poisoned the fruit.

With their lies and the evidence planted against me, I had no way to defend myself. I was brutally killed by the victims' parents.

If Yoana was the murderer who had killed me, then Chloe and Lily were her accomplices.

None of them could escape responsibility for my death.

As I thought about all that, Yoana finally noticed me sitting at my desk. She looked startled for a moment.

"Jessica, when did you get back?"

I knew I could not let her become suspicious yet, so I simply smiled at her.

"I got back just before Chloe and Lily. The second I walked in, I saw all these fruit cups covering the room."

Hearing that, Yoana visibly relaxed. She brought a fruit cup over to me.

"Here! It is so hot outside. Have some fruit to cool down. I just made these!

"Things have really been going my way lately. Not only did I make it onto the list for the school honor award, but I also happened to find fruit on sale. Maybe it is a sign that something good is coming my way!"

As she said that, a smug smile spread across her face. She looked practically drunk on her own success.

Chloe and Lily immediately chimed in.

"Then the school honor award is definitely yours! We are voting for you!"

"Of course! Once you win, do not forget your two old friends!"

Yoana's grin grew even wider.

However, when she noticed that I still had not taken the fruit cup, her expression darkened slightly.

"Jessica, why are you not taking it? Sure, the fruit was on sale, but I still spent a whole week's allowance on this."

Chloe immediately nudged me.

"What are you waiting for? Take it! Do not reject Yoana's kindness!"

Kindness, my foot!

This was not kindness. It was a deadly trap.

In my previous life, the moment I slapped the fruit cup out of Yoana's hand, they had used that reaction against me.

"If you were not the one who poisoned the fruit, why did you react so strongly?"

This time, I still refused the fruit cup. However, instead of reacting as strongly as I had before, I smiled and gently turned it down.

"Thanks for thinking of me, but I am allergic to peaches. Half of the fruit in there is peaches, so I cannot eat it."

The moment I refused, Yoana's eyes turned red. She looked like I had just broken her heart.

"It is my fault. I forgot, Jessica. You are a rich girl, after all. Regular fruit probably is not good enough for you, let alone fruit that is on sale..."

Her words twisted the situation completely. Chloe and Lily immediately took Yoana's side.

They glared coldly at me, acting as if they were defending her honor.

"Jessica, do not use your allergy as an excuse to insult someone! You just think Yoana is beneath you because she bought fruit that was on sale, do you not?"

"You were just lucky enough to be born into a rich family. If we are talking about who is actually better, Yoana obviously wins! She is a candidate for the school honor award this time, and it is only a matter of time before she gets it. Unlike you, who is nothing but a spoiled rich girl who thinks throwing money around makes her better than everyone else. With an attitude like that, you still think you can win a student excellence award?"

"Exactly! So what if your grades are good? With a personality like yours, you are still nothing but an annoying snob!"

"Since you are not going to eat yours, we will!"

They snatched my fruit cup away and started stuffing the fruit into their mouths. Juice ran down their chins as they devoured it.

Watching them, I sneered inwardly. I had already tried to warn them, so if they wanted to keep eating, they were welcome to help themselves. The more they ate, the better. Maybe they would even eat themselves to death.

However, something about the school honor award still bothered me.

My grades were excellent in every subject. I had even won multiple awards before. However, I had been eliminated in the very first round of the selection process.

Meanwhile, Yoana, who had failed countless classes and seemed to be good at absolutely nothing, had somehow made it onto the list.

There had to be more to this.

Could there be some hidden reason behind it?

Before I could think it through, Yoana had already packed up the remaining fruit cups.

She was getting ready to take them to our classmates.

Their faces twisted with rage as they shouted at me."You filthy b*tch! What the hell did you do?""Jessica, do you not want to graduate anymore?"Their shouting immediately drew everyone's attention. People turned toward Yoana and Gavin and began whispering."Look! Those are the two people from the campus anonymous forum!""I know them! Yoana and Gavin! What a perfect match. A cheating b*stard and a shameless homewrecker!"Having been humiliated in front of everyone, Yoana's face turned bright red. Tears of anger streamed down her cheeks.Gavin pulled her into his arms, comforting her while glaring furiously at me. Then he raised his fist and swung it toward me.Just before it hit, an enraged voice rang out."You piece of garbage! Have you lost your mind?"…I followed the voice.A beautiful woman in a red dress was storming toward us.It was Gavin's wife. She had come to the university because I had sent her a copy of the evidence earlier. The moment she saw Gavin hold

Chloe and Lily had also gotten their scholarships through Yoana's connections, which was why they had always sucked up to her. However, it also meant Yoana had them completely under her thumb.Once I had gathered enough evidence, I found myself looking forward to the public apology more and more.On the day of the apology, I contacted the campus anonymous forum ahead of time and asked them to post some things while I was making my statement. On my way to the radio station, I happened to run into Yoana. The moment she saw me, the corners of her mouth curled into a smug smile. She could barely hide the glee on her face."Oh, look who it is. Jessica, the girl who poisoned her classmates and framed her roommates. Have you memorized that five-thousand-word apology yet?"She looked at me with a triumphant smile."Go on. I cannot wait to hear you apologize! Jessica, you owe me all of this!"You ruined my face, so I am going to make you pay too!"After taunting me, Yoana even called o

Hearing Yoana's reminder, Gavin immediately puffed himself up with authority."Jessica, I do not care what happened before. The fact is, Yoana is depressed because of you! And you have repeatedly talked back to me."You need to apologize to both me and Yoana right now! Otherwise, I have ways to put this on your student record. Do not think graduating is just about completing enough credits. If you end up with a disciplinary record, whether you can graduate smoothly is another question!"I silently rolled my eyes so hard they nearly disappeared into the back of my head.Seriously?Pulling rank just because he could. Who did Gavin think he was fooling? Everyone knew he did not actually have that much power. At the university, Gavin was basically a glorified prop. He had very little authority and a huge temper.Officially, he was a student affairs staff member. Put more bluntly, he was just someone whose job was to serve the students.Did he really think he was some big shot? He w

...As the controversy continued to grow, Yoana was subjected to a brutal wave of online harassment.People called her repeatedly just to harass her, sent nasty text messages cursing her and her entire family, and even mailed her terrifying packages from time to time.Sometimes the packages contained dead rats or dead snakes. Other times, they contained feces smeared with what looked like animal blood.Even when Yoana was walking down the street, people who recognized her from the internet would throw pebbles at her and spit at her.Day after day, the harassment wore her down. Yoana became listless and increasingly haggard.Chloe and Lily were dragged into the mess too, and they suffered plenty of abuse themselves. The moment the online harassment started, I moved back home. There was no way I was going to let their problems keep me up at night. For the next few days, they were strangely quiet. They did not try anything else.I thought things might finally stay peaceful. Then

"Shameless! She eats the good fruit cups herself and gives everyone else the rotten ones!"…The insults kept coming and Yoana's face turned bright red with humiliation. She still tried to bring up the pesticide, claiming that I was an accomplice too."If I am the murderer, then Jessica is an accomplice! Those people were not poisoned just by aflatoxin. They were poisoned by pesticides too!"So, Yoana knew she could not escape anymore and wanted to drag me down with her?Too bad.I was not going to give her the chance. As everyone turned suspicious eyes toward me, I immediately played the recording of Yoana and the others framing me.In the video, Yoana, Chloe, and Lily crept toward my locker. The next second, Yoana pulled a bottle of pesticide from her pocket and tossed it inside. What they did not know was that I had started recording the moment they began their little scheme. This time, Yoana had no way to explain herself. She could only lower her head with a pale, grim e

Yoana smiled with satisfaction and continued spinning her lies, pushing all the blame onto me."I will swear on my life that there was nothing wrong with my fruit! Jessica deliberately poisoned it, and that is why those students got food poisoning! Otherwise, why did the tests find pesticide residue? The dangerously high aflatoxin levels could have been caused by the pesticide too!"Before I could say a word, Yoana kept going."Think about it, everyone. If Jessica was not the one who poisoned the fruit, why was she the only person who refused to eat it? And why did I find a bottle of pesticide in her locker?"No one could come up with a response. The room fell silent. To make everyone believe her story, Chloe and Lily immediately backed her up with more lies."Jessica was the one who poisoned it! We saw her do it with our own eyes!""And Jessica is a computer science major. Editing a fake video would be ridiculously easy for her!"With Yoana, Chloe, and Lily working together,
