Me and Rupert watched the girls collect rocks from near the trees.
Rupert had a bitter, disgusted expression etched all over his face.
“You're really going to give them money for giving you a bunch of rocks?” he snarled. “What the fuck has gotten into you?!”
He trailed off his sentence, seething.
“We could have just taken them there and then!” he spewed viciously.
“Not so fast,” I snarled, rolling my eyes. “They need to develop trust for us first before we take them. Have you learnt nothing from how many times we've done this before?”
I folded my arms matter-of-factly.
“We need to lure them in slowly. Make them rely on us. It's how we stop them from being disobedient bitches after we take them in.”
Rupert narrowed his eyes, realizing that I had a point.
“Besides, giving them a couple of dollars for a few rocks isn't gonna bother me, when we could make millions off of these bitches.”
“I guess so,” Rupert agreed, nodding briefly.
We both shut up quickly, as we watched the girls jogging back over to us.

Me and Valerie had finished collecting the rocks for the men.
We ran over to them excitedly, handing over the rocks to them in their hands.
“Here are your rocks!” Valerie screeched.
“Thanks girls!” the old man grinned.
“Here is your money, as promised,” the young man said, smiling.
He folded some coins into our hands.
“Thank you!” we replied gratefully.
“Anyway, we best be leaving,” the young man said. “We'll see you around.”
We waved at them, as we watched them walk away.
“I'm so excited to show this money to my mama!” Valerie said ecstatically. “She'll be so happy!”
“I know, what a nice man!” I giggled, feeling my cheeks flush pink.
Nobody had shown people like us such kindness before.

Meanwhile...
I finished filling my bucket with water.
“I think that's enough water for now. I should get going.”
I got up on my feet, dusting myself off, and took hold of the bucket, turning around to make my way back to the camp.
I trudged through the forest...
One pathway after the other.
With the heavy bucket held firmly in my hands.
After I'd gone down about three pathways, I felt myself bump into somebody.
I slowly allowed my eyes to move from the ground back upwards, and I noticed two men in army uniform standing there, blocking the pathway, smoking cigarettes.
I took a few steps backwards, allowing myself some room and distance, swallowing down a lump that had formed in my throat.
“Excuse me,” I stumbled nervously. “Could I get past please?”
The men's eyes bored into mine. One of the men had terrifying, veiny eyes, that caused my skin to set on edge.
“I don't think so,” he said quietly.
He continued to smoke on his cigarette, the corners of his mouth curling upwards into a smirk.
I drew out a deep breath that I didn't know I was holding, shaking and convulsing, doing my best to keep my composure, and keep myself together.
“P – please...” I whispered uneasily. “I really need to get home.”
“By the looks of your feet, it doesn't seem like you have a home,” the other man commented, shooting me a look of disgust, as he stared at my bare, dirty feet.
He let out a low chuckle, and the other man rolled his eyes sarcastically.
I could feel my insides twist into knots, feeling eaten alive with shame and humiliation.
I hated how other people thought that they were better than people like me, just because they had more money, or status.
It was how good of a person you were, that truly mattered.
But materialistic people like these men would never understand that...

“What's a beautiful lady like you doing, wandering in the forest all alone?” asked the veiny-eyed man, narrowing his eyes. “You should know better.”
“You don't know what's lurking out there,” his friend agreed, his voice low and deep, with a dark, sinister tone to it, that set my whole body alive with unease.
I felt so uncomfortable...
So terrified in this moment.
“Vladimir must be back already!” I screamed to myself. “I better make my way back to my cage, or I'm a dead woman!”I bolted back to the cage as quickly as I possibly could, before Vladimir could notice that I had tried breaking out.If I went back now, it would be as if nothing had happened.I crouched down on my knees and slammed the cage shut, doing my best to make sure that nothing looked amiss. And then I blew out a deep sigh of exhaustion, knowing how close I was to blowing it.And then I allowed the tears to fall.Because when I'd seen the cage unlocked, I truly believed I would have the chance to escape...And perhaps make a life for myself other than the terrible, miserable one I had right now.I guessed I had thought wrong.I guessed I was gullible and naive for ever believing that happily ever afters and better days existed for people like me.44lilyI bravely wiped away my tears, as I heard Vladimir's footsteps approaching the cage.I watched him walk inside the room, and
40lilyYears after being sold to Vladimir Potter“I've gotta do some paperwork with the client I was telling you about,” said Vladimir matter-of-factly, folding his arms. “He's going to come and see you tonight. I've left some clothes inside your cage, change into them while I'm gone. I won't be long.”I was sat inside my cage, with my hands wrapped around my legs, trembling...With tears streaming down my face. The cage was the place I was forced to stay whenever I wasn't on a job.Vladimir departed from the room, and I could feel my blood boiling to the point it almost dried up, as my eyes burned into his back as he left.Hating him.Despising him for doing this to me.For treating me this way.And the pent-up anger and frustration that I'd kept inside of me, began getting the better of me.I stood up on my feet and began rattling the cage angrily, screaming and sobbing hysterically, even though I knew nobody could hear me.“I'm sick of this!” I bellowed. “I'm sick of being locked
36lazarusI stood at the back of an alleyway on the other side of town, in a deserted area, where nobody would be able to see me.I was in the middle of a business transaction, with a very rich, wealthy, and filthy motherfucker, who was going to make me a lot of money. His name was Vladimir Potter.Vladimir Potter was a sick, twisted bastard. He had veiny blue eyes, scruffy black hair, scars all over his body, and a burn mark covering half of his entire face.He was about to make Lily's life a big, big fucking misery.I had the little bitch Lily with me, with her short, black hair tied up in pigtails, and I’d got her to wear a pretty little dress, ready to meet the fucking customer.Dolling up her face, making her look the fucking part.Needing to satisfy Vladimir's desires.“She’s fresh meat, old man,” I shrugged. “Twelve years old, straight from Russia.”The man narrowed his eyes, eyeing up the little girl up and down with a predatory regard, a smile forming on the corners of his m
“You see, your dad has been... shall I say... misbehaving... while he has been working for me. He warned me to stay away from you, but I didn't listen. I couldn't resist. You looked so young and beautiful, it would be a shame for that to go to waste.”An exasperated growl escaped from my mouth.“He constantly tried to run away. Constantly tried to defy orders. Constantly swore and got into fights. Trying to come up against the likes of me. He had no idea who he was messing with. What I was capable of.”I balled my hands into fists, rattling them angrily.“So what would be a better punishment... If I took his beautiful daughter? There would be no better punishment.”34lazarusI gritted my teeth.“From here on out, you'll be listening to my commands. You'll be doing whatever I tell you to do. If you want to stand a chance of fucking surviving.”I folded my arms.“But I'll never kill you. No, I'll never do that.“I'll just put you through endless torture. Just as you think it's about t
29lilyI sat in the backseat of Lazarus's car, my heart thumping against my chest with the excitement of seeing my father at last.I was so excited...I was getting out of the camp at last!My cheeks flushed pink, as I felt myself warm at how much Lazarus had helped me.I couldn't wait to see my Papa...And show him the prince that I met, who was taking me to him.30lilyLazarus pulled up to the curb, and stopped driving. He pulled up to an abandoned house, that looked like nobody had stepped inside of it for years. The windows were broken, the surroundings were dirty...It almost looked haunted.Did Lazarus live here?I could feel myself hesitating, but continued to follow Lazarus inside. The inside looked just as worn-out and battered as the outside did.How could Lazarus live in such bad conditions?I thought he was a rich man. What was this creepy place?“Your father was inside here.”He signalled one of the corridors inside the mansion.“Oh, okay,” I replied, unsure what to thi

I just feel so alone.”Lazarus crouched down next to me, squeezing my palms in his.“Don't feel alone,” he whispered. “You have me!”25lilyMy eyes burned into Lazarus's, not sure what this feeling was when he showed me such kindness.I shakily shivered about my spot.“C - can you help m
