LOGINGabriel’s P.O.V.
“No one knows about my return today. Still, I was ambushed by those rogues right inside the pack. Care to explain how they managed to deceive the border security and roam in the pack as if they owned this place?” I asked the present beta, Calvin’s father, Caden.
My voice was steady and calm, as I didn’t need to lose my temper here.
“They entered the pack from the eastern part of the border where we share the border with a human town, and that part is mostly guarded by the humans.” Caden told me, his posture stiff and voice strained.
“And why don’t we have any of our guards or any vigilance there?” I asked him in frustration.
Caden stared at me but didn’t reply.
“For goddess’s sake, Caden, this is the 21st century, and with all the advanced human technologies and ours, we don’t need to put guards there. We can just put a few surveillance cameras there and can monitor our borders while sitting in a damn monitoring room.” I yelled at him, trying hard to suppress my anger, but it was impossible for me when my wolf, Onyx, was the one who was infuriated to hell.
“It’s not like we don’t want to use the advanced technologies to strengthen our security system, Gabriel. But the thing is that it can also jeopardize our privacy. The technology has its advantages but disadvantages at the same time.” He reasoned calmly, but it only made me growl at him in anger more.
“Do you think that I don’t know about the disadvantages? You put the whole pack’s lives in danger. They were almost in the center of the pack, hiding behind the shopping district. Tell me, Caden. What if I wasn’t there, and they succeeded in entering the shopping mall? What would be your explanation if they had killed a few pack members? I am sure that you won’t even pay attention if a few are killed, right?”
He stiffened because of the taunt, but this is what you got from me when it comes to the safety of the pack.
At the same time, the door of Dad’s office opened and Dad, with Sylvester and Calvin, entered.
They also had gloomy expressions on their faces but not as dark as mine.
I huffed and went to the couch at the right corner of the room and sat down.
“I heard what Gabriel said, Caden, and I also know that it’s me who didn’t want to put surveillance everywhere, but Gabriel is right. We can’t rely on others for our safety. This is the second time in a month that the rogues entered our pack.” Dad said to Caden in a serious tone.
“But why didn’t you mind-link us as soon as you noticed them, Gabriel? Why did you go head-on with them, putting your own life at risk?” Dad suddenly asked me, his voice still serious.
“They suddenly attacked me, Dad. So, my first instinct was to protect myself. That was a secluded area, and I was sure that no one would come there. Moreover, mind-linking while fighting seven rogues could be suicidal.” I argued, telling honestly what I had in my mind at that time.
Dad grunted, displeasure still evident on his face but he didn’t say a word in reprimand.
“We need to reconsider our decision of not installing surveillance cameras. Gabriel is right. Even if technology has its disadvantages, we can’t ignore the fact that with rapid growth in human population and their interest in their surroundings, they will soon start coming inside our pack boundaries.”
Dad paused and took a deep breath. I was glad that he understood my concern. My head was still filled with the images of her fearful eyes.
“You are worried for her, right?” Sylvester asked me through mind-link, his voice filled with both mischief and disdain.
I glared at him coldly. Similarly, Onyx also growled lowly, showing his displeasure towards Sylvester’s attitude towards Sheryl.
Our mate…
“O come on, Gabriel. Don’t give me this look. I don’t know why the Moon Goddess gave her as our mate when we need a strong and powerful she-wolf, key word-wolf, as our mate.” He grumbled through mind-link, clearly pissed with the fact that I was paying attention to the girl who was once our friend.
“What’s the use of being an alpha if we need a powerful (my tone sarcastic) she-wolf as our mate, huh? And you are questioning the goddess’ decision for us?” I retorted angrily.
“Are you listening to me, boys?” I sighed and looked at my father, who suddenly called us angrily.
“I am sorry, Dad. I have something in my mind.” I apologized absentmindedly but cleared my mind immediately.
“You have to attend the school from tomorrow onwards. For now, you and Calvin will work on the pack security together, but Caden will have the final say.” Dad instructed me and I nodded in confirmation.
“What about Sheryl’s protection? She put her life at risk by exposing herself to those rogues. Four of them have escaped. I am sure that they will come back for her,” I asked, giving the reason for my concern.
She was still underage. I can’t tell anyone that she was my mate.
My fated mate.
I couldn’t describe how I felt when I smelled her scent among the chaos created by fighting rogues. I froze for a few seconds, and they took advantage of that, hitting me on my head.
To my shock, she suddenly barged towards us, riding her small bike, and then she asked me to sit behind her.
A small smile crept on my lips while thinking about how panicked she was at that time and yet she bravely came to rescue me. I don’t think that she even recognized me the way she ranted all the way until she threw me off her bike.
“Back to earth, bro.” Sylvester nudged me while teasing me a little.
“Is everything okay, Gabriel?” I looked at Dad and found him looking at me worriedly.
"Sorry... what were you saying?" I asked him, taking a deep breath.
Clearly she was affecting me and I had this urge to see her as soon as possible.
"I was telling you that I have appointed two guards to tail Shryl for a few days to keep her safe." Dad told me, but raised his brows, looking worried, but I knew him better.
It was when I realized that I zoned out again.
Sheryl’s P.O.V. (Continued)He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly, pissing me off more.“It’s too long. Either we go with her to that university or she has to stay.” Sylvester mumbled, and I snapped my head in his direction, widening my eyes in shock.“I am not dropping my dream, Sylvester. You are future alphas, I got it. You need your Luna to take over the pack; I got that too, but I am not going to sacrifice my dreams for that. I accepted being the future Luna, and I can take over that position after seven years, or you can reject me.”I trembled hard in fear when both Sylvester and Gabriel growled aloud. I was still in Sylvester’s embrace, and that intense vibration of his chest shook my whole body. The next second, all the boys were standing beside us, taking a defensive side, but my eyes were glued to both Sylvester and Gabriel, fear evident in them.My breath ragged, but I was frozen in my place. I couldn’t even move a muscle when I wanted to clutch my chest as a sudden jolt o
Sheryl’s P.O.V.“Are you sure that you will be okay with all those boys?” Reena asked me worriedly, glancing inside the room where I was supposed to stay with the boys.“What can we do in this matter, Reena? I don’t want to be strangled in my dreams. Moreover, staying with me can put your lives in danger. They will not target future alphas, but us.” I paused and moved my finger between us.“We are just ordinary wolves.” I finished and she rolled her eyes.“You are the future Luna, Sheryl. You are not just an ordinary wolf.” She emphasized the title dramatically.“Yes, the future Luna, Reena. If I die, they can get the second chance. I don’t have a powerful family background, and don’t forget, for them I am the biggest threat. I don’t know in what way, but yes, I am.” I was serious in my tone.Reena was about to say something when she shut her mouth. I sighed and felt a headache coming towards me.She ran away the next second, leaving me behind with the person standing behind me.“You
Sylvester’s P.O.V.“She is perfectly fine, Sylvester. She told us earlier that she is immune to poison, and look at her posture! I am sure that she is going for bullseye.” Calvin comforted me anxiously, but my eyes were glued on Sheryl, who was now holding the bow straight in the middle of the ground.Everyone was shouting and cheering all around the stadium, but it seemed that she was deaf to all those voices.Yet I was scared. Only a few hours here, and she was first forced to learn about her mate bond when she must not, and then she was attacked with a deadly poison. The warrior who went to get those darts, still fell sick when he had a mask on his face. She released the arrow, and for a fraction of a second, I held my breath.“Bullseye!” Calvin and Raymond exclaimed excitedly, almost yelling in excitement.I released the breath and smiled tightly. This was her third shot in a row, and she had already gotten the maximum point by now.“Did you see that?” Calvin yelled while grabbing
Sylvester’s P.O.V. (Continued)“But you two always do this.” She complained, and my heart skipped a beat.“You… you know?” Gabriel asked her, sounding shocked. I glanced at him and found him looking at me with the same look."Not only she knows, but she can also mind-link us just like us." Gabriel remarked through other mind-link.“What’s wrong? You two look like you have seen a ghost.” Calvin asked me worriedly.“Night Shade Pack and the Moon Pond pack…. Do we have any information on them available right now?” I asked him, ignoring his question.“Hey, Prince Caspian is going near her.” Morton warned all of us through mind-link.“I also got a bad vibe from him,” Raymond grumbled worriedly. and we all concentrated on the three leaders.I don’t know if it was coincidental or if they intentionally placed Sheryl between them.“We don’t have any direct beef with them, but it seems that we have some business issues with them,” Calvin told me through mind-link.“Be careful, Sheryl. They have
Sylvester’s P.O.V.“Are you ready, guys?” Simon asked us worriedly while looking at the players marching on the track, holding the flag of their school and their pack. We were also in the line, waiting for our turn.“We are, coach.” We all replied to him in unison.Sheryl was now standing between me and Gabriel, holding the pack flag in her hands.Earlier, Gabriel was assigned to march with the pack flag, but after the king pulled that stunt in the throne room, everyone decided to let Sheryl hold that pack flag as the future Luna and also the captain of the archery team. This could be counted as a slap on the faces of those who want to see her down. She was a bit tense, and no one could blame her for that. Even though she had been presenting her team for the past two years, she never tried to be in the limelight. But her position right now not only put her in the limelight but also a hot topic of gossip. She is the first she-wolf in our history who is exposed to her mate bond three da
Sheryl’s P.O.V. (Continued)His breath also hitched, and his eyes darted between my lips and my eyes. I blinked and gulped hard when the movements of his eyes made me feel something churning in my lower belly again.“Don’t look at me like this, my love. Ten months and 27 days…. Only I know how difficult it was to keep myself away from you when all I wanted to do was to kiss you hard…. To mark you, make you mine, and f**k you hard.” He spoke to me in a husky and s*xy voice, lowering it a bit, making me feel throaty.Enough for me to hold my breath. Just like Sylvester, I also wanted you to be our mate, but these months were like pure torture, especially when you were with me.” He continued in the same tone, his breathing ragged and the heat of his breath fanning my face, making me feel hot too.My heart stopped beating for a few seconds and then started racing as if an army of ghosts was chasing it inside my chest.I almost moaned in pleasure when he stroked the corner of my lips with
