Sheryl’s P.O.V.

“Be careful, Grandpa. You don’t want to go back to the hospital, do you?” I asked him teasingly while helping him ascend the stairs. The building had five floors, and our apartment was on the third floor.

“I hate that place.” He grumbled but it only made me giggle.

“I know,” I teased but kept him steady on his feet. His body was still wobbling a little as if he was drunk, but we knew better.

“Admit it, Grandpa, you are getting old now.” I continued the conversation going on, teasing him from time to time.

“Mind your tongue, young lady. You are old.” He immediately flared and I laughed.

After my mother’s death, my mother parents took care of me. My father abandoned me and went away. I learned a few years later that he transferred him to some other pack after my mother’s death, and he found his second chance mate there.

In short, I was completely supported by my maternal grandparents and after Grandma left us three years ago, now it was only Grandpa as my closest family.

We crossed the first floor when I froze.

Grandpa also stopped and frowned.

“Who is upstairs?” He mumbled in confusion. My heart was now racing a marathon in my lungs in fear.

We sensed a strong aura upstairs but all the people living in the building were regular wolves or from lower rank, like delta or gamma like us.

Did he come back to punish me?

I gulped hard and thought about how to run away without making my grandpa worry for me, but before I could even think a word, I heard footsteps.

My heart almost leaped out of my mouth and tightened my grip on Grandpa’s arm.

“Goddess, Sheryl! Are you trying to fracture my arm?” Grandpa scolded me but my mind was completely in those footsteps.

“Here there you are, Edwin.” The present gamma, Rodney, smiled widely when he saw us.

“Rodney. What are you doing here?” Grandpa asked me, taking a step forward, making me walk too.

My knee was still paining a little, but the fear in my heart was so intense that I couldn’t even breathe properly.

“Alpha Adrian sent me to take you to him. He has something to discuss with elders, and they demanded your presence there.” Rodney stated his reason to be here.

I couldn’t describe how relieved I was. This was not about Gabriel and me.

I was spared.

O goddess!!!!

“Sheryl, what’s wrong?” I flinched harder in fear when Rodney suddenly called me worriedly.

“N… nothing, Gamma Rodney. I am okay.” I answered, stammering a little in panic.

I saw both him and my grandfather looking at me worriedly now.

“You don’t look okay, honey. Your face was deathly pale a few seconds ago, as if you had seen an army of ghosts.” Grandpa remarked worriedly.

I smiled anxiously this time.

“I …. I am just tired, Grandpa… an.. and.” I was trying to find a good excuse to suppress his worry, but my mind went on strike without giving me any notice.

I paused when I couldn’t find a word to make that excuse, looking at my grandpa helplessly when my stomach saved me.

I growled so loudly that I am sure that the whole building had listened to it.

It was embarrassing, but a perfect excuse why I was so pale.

Rodney chuckled while shaking his head.

“Now it made sense why you are pale.” He teased and I blushed while lowering my eyes.

Thank goddess….

“Well, let me take Edwin to the packhouse. The meeting is about to start,” Rodney said further but I immediately shook my head negatively.

“He had an episode a few hours ago, Rodney. We are just returning from the hospital,” I told him worriedly. His expression immediately changed into a worried one.

“It’s okay, Sheryl. I am okay. You go and have something to eat. I will be back in no time.” Grandpa comforted me, still choosing to go with Rodney.

“But.” I protested but Rodney cut me off.

“Relax, pup. I will take care of him and immediately inform you if he feels even a slight discomfort.” Rodney comforted me, but I wasn’t convinced.

Grandpa smiled and slowly patted my shoulder.

“It’s okay, Sheryl. I will be back soon.” He also said that same thing with a faint smile.

I know that Alpha Adrian Knight, the present alpha of our pack, Red River Pack, will not call my grandfather, the former gamma of the pack, for an idle chitchat.

It must be something serious.

I nodded and Rodney took Grandpa’s hand from me. “Be careful.” I was still worried but both of them just gave me a small smile before walking downstairs.

I sighed and slowly walked up.

I wasn’t limping anymore, thanks to my own werewolf’s ability to heal, but it doesn’t mean that I wasn’t in pain.

After a chaotic day, now I was feeling exhausted and completely out of energy.

Didn’t Gabriel tell his father or his brother that I yell at him?

Or

Was he planning to punish me in other wicked ways, just like Sylvester?

The fear gripped my heart again, but there was nothing that I could do in this matter.

“Hey, Sheryl.” I looked at my neighbor, Mrs. Maya Graham, a woman in her early 40s, but thanks to her being a werewolf, she didn’t look older than a woman in her 30s.

“Where is Grandpa? Is he okay?” She asked me worriedly while approaching me, a lunch box in her hands.

“He is okay. I picked him up from the hospital, but Alpha Adrian called him to the pack house. Thanks for asking, Maya.” I replied to her with gratitude.

“Aaahhhh…. I was really worried when Sam called me earlier.” She replied and thrust the lunch box in my hands.

“I know that you are hungry, and I made lasagna.” She told me with a wink.

“Thank you, Maya. You are a savior.” I thanked her sincerely, my voice filled with gratitude.

“We are family, Sheryl. No need to say thanks, okay. Now go and eat immediately or else it will not taste good if gets cold.” She urged, her voice filled with worry and indulgence.

I may not have my mother with me, but Maya and all my other neighbors in the building treat me like their own pup.

Unlike some people in the school.

I opened the door of our apartment and walked inside while Maya went back to her apartment. Maya and Sam were fated mates and had two pups younger than me.

I was about to lock the door when my phone started ringing in my jacket pocket.

I walked to the dining table and put the lunch box there while taking my phone out of my pocket.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw Rodney’s name on the screen.

I hurriedly picked up the call, fearing that something had happened to my grandfather.

“I don’t want to say anything about your encounter with rogues in front of your grandfather, Sheryl, but you need to stay inside for the rest of the day. The search parties are now searching for them in the pack. They are still in the pack.” He told me in a serious tone, and my hands trembled hard.

"What do you mean, they are still in the pack, Rodney?. I... I saved a boy from them. They .... they should go behind him. Why me?" I asked him, stammering a little in panic.

"Don't you know whom you saved, Sheryl?" he asked me, sounding amused this time.

Oh no....

Not Gabriel..... please.....

He looked familiar, but I couldn’t tell by his back who he was.Rogues were cursing aloud while trying to pin him down, but he was a good fighter.“Run, Sheryl. You will be a liability for him instead of being a help. Go and find help for him,” I urged myself in my heart.I was about to move away when I saw a rogue who was lying on the ground suddenly get up and pick up a solid stick from the gr

He asked me in a husky but sarcastic voice. It was like a predator toying with its prey before hunting it."Open your eyes, girl," he asked me in the same voice, the hotness on my face increasing, indicating he is closing the distance between our faces."Sylvester, what are you doing here?" I breathed out in relief when the voice of the nurse startled me, and it was a relief."I just came here to see my fellow student, who is so clumsy that she always falls down the stairs, Ms. Shaw." He answered arrogantly.I was still holding my breath, praying to God to make him leave this place

Sheryl’s P.O.V.My only goal while staying in school all the time was to ignore a specific group of people, not that I am scared of them. Of course, I am.I am a normal human being, and a normal human is meant to afraid of ghosts. But there are some people in the world who are scarier than ghosts.Just like the gang of bullies in our school who are adamant to make my life miserable every second that I spend in the school.I breathed out aloud in relief after successfully getting downstairs, but it was so short-lived that I doubted it occurred as soon as I turned at the junction of the corridor.“Aaahhh.” I screamed in panic when someone, I know who, tripped me.
