LOGINSheryl’s P.O.V.
“You still didn’t tell me why you were out of the school early, Sheryl. And why were you injured again?” Grandpa asked me sternly, walking right behind me while I was trying to run out of the home as soon as possible, and I almost stumbled while wearing my shoes.
“Goddess, Grandpa! I told you yesterday that I fell during PE. Now you once again start acting like a nagging granny. Stop acting out of your character.” I whined, trying to sound dramatic, but he was my grandfather.
“And you want me to believe this crap, huh? I was occupied yesterday and didn’t pay attention to your injuries. This is, I guess, the fourth time in the month that you fell during PE, right?” He asked me, grabbing my arm and flipped me towards him.
I felt a pang of guilt because of my lies, but there is no way that I could tell him the truth.
How could I tell him that it’s the future alpha and his gang that had made my life hell in the school?
My grandfather’s loyalty towards the pack and the alpha family is unshakable, but he loves me more than his life.
He would be heartbroken if he learned that the ones for whom my mother lost her life are the ones who have been treating me like trash all these years.
“Grandpa. I know that you think I am bullied in school, but this is not true. I really fell down during PE. I… I can’t run as fast as them, but I always try to do my best, and.” I trailed off, leaving the sentence midway for him to speculate.
He was still not convinced, but I smiled weakly while leaning on him.
“I know that I have you, Grandpa, and if something bad happens to me, you will be the first person to know about that,” I assured him, but deep in my heart, I knew it was just a lie.
I didn’t want him to be worried for me.
“I need to talk to your PE teacher.” He mumbled. I wanted to protest, but the more I would try to keep him away from school, the more he would get suspicious.
“Okay, Grandpa. Now, I really need to go or else I will be super late.” I rushed towards the door after taking my bag from the cupboard shelf and ran out of the apartment.
“Sheryl.” I stopped when Sam called me from behind.
I saw him coming out of his apartment with his son, Mike, with him.
“Hey, Sam, Mike.” I greeted both of them with a faint smile and continued walking towards the stairs.
“I saw your bike puncture when I came back from my shift last night.” He told me with a serious expression, and my heart skipped a beat.
I stopped and looked at him fearfully. He knew very well about my encounter with rogues.
“I am going to drop you at school, and someone will be there to pick you up too.” He told me in a low voice, but it was enough to tell that it was Alpha Adrian’s arrangement.
“Are they still in the pack?” I asked him anxiously while going downstairs with them.
“Why are you so scared, Sheryl? Who are still in the pack?” Mike asked me worriedly.
I felt warmth spreading in my chest, but I didn’t answer him and looked back at Sam for answers.
“I don’t know, Sheryl. Alpha Adrian instructed us not to leave you alone for a few more days until we ensure that the pack is safe. You will have someone around you all the time for a few day from now onwards,” He answered, worry written all over his face, but his answer didn’t calm down my anxiety.
How could it be possible that they are still in the pack? Wouldn’t it put the whole pack at risk?
My mind was a mess now. I felt scared and wanted to go back home instead of going out.
“Did…. Did my grandpa know about yesterday?” I asked him anxiously when I remembered that the alpha called him when we got back from the hospital.
“No…. and Alpha Adrian has strictly ordered everyone not to say a word about that. Not only because of your grandpa but also because it would create chaos in the pack. They were almost in the center of our home.” He explained in a serious voice.
I couldn’t help but agree with him on that.
That alley was behind the busiest shopping mall in the pack. Not only do our pack members go there but also people from other packs and from the human cities around us come there for shopping.
You can say that if those rogues were intended to attack that mall, it could be counted as a terrorist attack in human words.
“I understand, Sam, and I promise that I won’t do anything reckless and will follow Alpha Adrian’s instructions.” I assured him, my voice still filled with worry and anxiety.
He smiled and asked us to stay near the entrance of the apartment as he went to get his car.
“Sheryl.” Mike called me in a hushed voice, making me raise my brows questioningly.
He looked around and then leaned towards my ear. He was almost as tall as me.
“I didn’t tell Dad about what I saw last night when I came back home. It was just a fleeting glance, but I am sure that I saw two burly men watching our apartment from afar.” He told me worriedly; his voice was still hushed but I could tell that he was also scared.
“Let’s do what your dad says, Mike, and you need to tell your father. Even if that was just an illusion, you need to tell him,” I encouraged him with a serious expression.
“He will not listen to me,” he whined, giving me a helpless look.
“He will, Mike. This time, he will,” I replied confidently and saw the car coming towards us.
We entered the back seat and Sam drove the car out of the apartment premises.
“Sheryl… 11 o’clock right side.” Mike whispered, his voice trembling a little and I immediately looked out of the window.
“What is it?” Sam asked us worriedly.
“Sam… I … I think there are rogues at the alley behind the barber shop.” I told him in a shaky voice as I also noticed a shadow there, which vanished immediately.
“Damn it. Don’t look around anymore. Call the alpha office. I can’t stop the car.” Sam instructed me and I hurriedly took my phone out. My hands were now shaking badly as I tried hard to dial the number.
Gabriel’s P.O.V. (Continued)Whenever I thought that I would be able to take over the alpha position from my father soon or that I was becoming capable enough to take some responsibilities from my father, something surfaced, proving how incompetent we were—that we couldn’t even provide our pack members a basic sense of security.I ran away from Sheryl.I agree, but I went on a secret mission. I am a part of a secret organization that works to eliminate serious threats to our world. At that time, there was a secret hunter’s group that was about to attack three big packs at the same time.I left everything on Sylvester before going for that mission.I learned about what he did after coming back and knew that he messed up things but didn’t know the extent.I moved towards Sylvester while seething in anger.“What do you want to say on this, Sylvester?” I asked him angrily, shutting out everyone around me.He flinched but didn’t look up.“You are supposed to protect the weak, Sylvester. As
Gabriel’s P.O.V.“We want justice for our son, Alpha. No wolf in this pack is allowed to beat a fellow pack member like this. She should be severely punished.” Jacob’s mother, a regular wolf but owner of two big clothing shops inside the pack, Nina, cried her heart out while demanding justice for her son.Sheryl really beat him badly. He was still unconscious and critical.I guess his arrogance not only came from his friendship with Shannon but also from his parents' money. That's why he still came after Sheryl when Shannon was in the dungeons.“I am not denying that she saved the whole pack in the previous attack, but it doesn’t give her the authority to treat other pack members like this.” Nina continued badmouthing Sheryl while crying.“And why do you think that Sheryl attacked Jacob, Nina?” Mom asked her in a stern voice, face cold, but eyes burning with anger.Nina stopped crying and looked at my mother in a daze.Mom didn’t say another word but picked up the remote control of th
Sheryl’s P.O.V. (Continued)“I never fought back because I didn’t want to hurt you guys, but you all assumed my act of leniency was cowardice. Who is the coward here, huh?” I continued roaring at him while twisting his hand to the side, making him scream in pain again.I threw his hand harshly and then punched him in his face, using all my strength. He couldn’t even produce a sound this time. He stopped breathing while his eyeballs almost popped out of their sockets, his face flushed red, veins popping out on his temples, and pain written all over his face.I didn’t stop there. My whole body was now burning with rage.“Why do you think I never fought when I am a trained fighter? Every pack member…. Every pack member knows that I have been training under Beta Caden for ages. Still you think I am pathetic enough to endure you just because I am scared of you. You b**tard.” I continued punching him while yelling at him.“Sheryl. Stop.” I heard someone yelling at me, but I continued throwi
Sheryl’s P.O.V.“Not bad, Sheryl. You have been out of practice for a long time, and yet you succeeded in scoring 8 and 9. I am sure that you will be in your form in no time.” Our archery teacher, Mr. Julius Nester, encouraged me, patting my shoulder gently after I shot the tenth arrow but it still didn’t hit the center.I smiled while nodding in response and put down my bow. My shoulders and hands were now aching badly. It had been more than two weeks since I practiced. And I was still recovering. So, I understood this fatigue and why I wasn’t able to perform just like before.“Take some rest and then you can go back.” He spoke to me further while giving me a towel.“Thanks, Mr. Nester.” I thanked him sincerely and took the towel.“I heard that you applied for online classes?” he asked me with a concerned tone.“Yeah. The doctor advised me not to put strain on my body, but I can’t slack off in my studies, right?” I replied to him in the same casual manner.“You are right. You have a
Gabriel’s P.O.V. (Continued)“So, you mean to say that you will not stop her, an….and Sheryl doesn’t remember what happened during the challenge. There is a possibility that she can reject us because of what I did because I hit my head somewhere and became insane for ten months?” Sylvester asked him, almost shrieking in the process.Dad grimaced but nodded in agreement. Both I and Zyphre were only a heartbeat away from killing Sylvester. He slumped on his chair like a deflated balloon, completely devastated, but I knew my brother very well. This is about our mate. If I am not willing to give up this easily, why would he?“But you truly know your mistake, and you want your mate not to reject you; you still have a chance.” Dad added it further while taking a relaxed position on his chair. We both immediately straightened up our upper bodies and leaned towards the desk with perked up ears.“Why are you two looking at me like this?” he asked us while looking at us warily when we both move
Gabriel’s P.O.V.“But now you know she is our mate. Can you stop her from going away from the pack, Dad? And why did she choose that university? It takes a day by train to reach there, a… and because of the distance, they still don’t have an airport there.” Sylvester continued complaining while pleading to our father.I was also shocked to know that Sheryl chose Southford University and a few faraway universities for her degree.“Ask yourself, Sylvester. Why doesn't she stay anywhere near the pack? The way you treated her, it's still her faith in our pack that she is still here. Don’t forget that she can go to her father’s pack at any time.” Dad scolded him while glaring hard at him when I was about to interject.I shut my mouth and glared at Sylvester too.It was his fault that Sheryl decided to move away from us. She was stubborn and her determination is unshakable. She had Edwin and our father’s support. So, it was impossible to take their help to stop her.“But spending six years
