For hours, they went in and out of shops, with David carefully checking the list and crossing off items one by one.

"Let's grab a drink. I'm exhausted," Livia said, bending over to massage her legs.

It turned out that preparing for a wedding was nowhere near as easy as she had imagined. Back then, even at her own wedding, she hadn't prepared anything herself-except her resolve and the effort to hold back tears. Everything had been taken care of for her, so she had hardly ever needed to shop.

'Ugh, my youthful stamina is really gone. I used to shop or browse for hours without feeling tired.'

They headed to the mall's food court, where the mouthwatering aroma of food instantly filled the air. As they passed rows of food stalls, the clashing scents tempted every passerby to stop.

"Sis, you're not joking, right?" David stood there holding several plastic bags full of food. There were so many that Kylie had to help carry them, while Livia only held a bag of drinks.

Those words from her mom left Kylie stunned.'So she's already forgiven him... and given us her blessing?' Kylie thought, feeling a lump form in her throat. 'She's softened after all. I knew Mom wouldn't stay stubborn forever.'"Then just tell him that, Mom!" Kylie burst out, her voice rising. "Tell him you like him too!""Tell him what?" her mother muttered, her cheeks reddening despite herself. "Fine... fine. I'll greet him properly next time. And I'll tell him not to bring anything else."Kylie let out a deep breath of relief. Her eyes wandered to the pile of gifts around the house."I can't really stop him, Mom. If he wants to bring something, he will.""Oh, for heaven's sake," her mother huffed. "Just tell him-no more gifts! I'm already fond of him, even if he doesn't bring a single thing. Tell him that."Kylie moved closer and began massaging her mother's legs gently."Actually, Mom... I wasn't going to say this. I wanted

Marriage doesn't just unite two hearts-it also brings two families together.Kylie and Brown's main mission was to win her mother's heart. To conquer it.But that turned out to be far harder than either of them expected.Kylie could tell her mother was slowly warming up, greeting Brown more sincerely now. Yet, she always found an excuse to avoid meeting him whenever Brown drove Kylie home.Sometimes, Kylie caught a glimpse of her mother behind the bedroom curtain, secretly peeking toward the front yard-just to make sure the two of them weren't doing anything improper. Her father, on the other hand, would occasionally appear to greet them. One night, they were still sitting in the car parked in front of Kylie's house. The stars shimmered faintly in the dark sky, still showering anyone who looked up with quiet beauty."Babe, about my mom..." Guilt always lingered in Kylie's heart. Her mother could be warm toward Reegan, yet

Kylie spoke carelessly, mostly to make Reegan stop and not bring up anything about Brown. "I beg you, stop contacting my mother."Reegan chuckled softly at what Kylie said."Yeah, you could do that. You even got called back to the company because of him, so moving divisions is nothing. If you wanted, you could even ask the president to transfer me-you've got his support. That powerful man who has everything." His hurt feelings revealed a childish streak.'What! Is this really the Reegan I know?'"Me? I'm just someone who can only watch your back, back then and even now. Your back as it moves away and leaves." His bitter voice filled the car.Kylie stayed silent, not answering him, until they reached the parking area.'Sorry, senior. Forgive me.' Kylie murmured softly, because she knew exactly how it felt-watching the back of someone you like walk away. The honk of a car startled Kylie just as she closed the door. She was rendered even

Kylie kept patting Brown’s shoulders repeatedly as they walked out. She bumped into a cardboard box on the way past the porch. The fresh air hit them instantly, and both let out a slow, relieved breath. Kylie patted him again.“Hansel! You’re so cruel, do you know how scared I was when you let go of my hand? I thought it was all over.”Their steps stopped on the grassy yard. Brown bent down slightly, matching Kylie’s gaze."Don’t you trust me at all? It makes me sad." He put on a sad expression, the same one he used when trying to tease her.“It’s not like that!” Kylie lowered her head. “You know, I’ve always watched your back as you walked away without looking back. It… it scared me. If…”“Sorry.”“But it’s okay, right? You even knelt in front of Dad and Mom.” Though not visible, Kylie suspected it must have hurt Brown’s

Brown slowly knelt down, bowing his head. Aside from Mr. Alexander, he had never bowed to anyone before.Even just seeing him like that was enough to show the weight of his regret and guilt-things that words could never fully express. For a man who had never lowered his head to anyone, this was him bringing his pride down to its very lowest point.Kylie was stunned speechless. Her father and mother were equally shocked. Her father immediately stood from the sofa and walked toward Brown, who was kneeling on the floor. Her mother also rose to her feet, clearly flustered. They all thought the same thing-when Brown had let go of Kylie's hand and stood up earlier, they believed he would leave, just as her mother demanded. That would've made sense. His pride wasn't something he could so easily cast aside-not to the point of lowering his head to anyone. So of course, everyone thought he would walk away."Son, don't do this," her father said awkward

Her mother wouldn't give her blessing that easily. Kylie knew that.No matter how many gifts Assistant Brown brought, they couldn't erase the traces of tears her mother had once shed for her.Even though her mother had picked up a broom bearing a brand logo that Kylie could never afford, she guessed her mother didn't even know how much it was worth. She had probably just grabbed the one that looked the fanciest among all the designs.'That broom must cost a year of my salary, Mom,' Kylie thought, though it was only a guess-she didn't actually know the real price. Now, they were inside the house. The home that usually felt spacious despite its modest size suddenly seemed tight and suffocating. Kylie felt like opening every window just to make sure there was enough oxygen for everyone sitting in the living room. Her lungs fought for air with every breath.'Why does this feel so tense all of a sudden?'Her mother still wore that cold, unwelcomi
