LOGINDiane's POV
The sharp knock on the door gives me hope; at least there's an intrusion. I'm not going to proceed with this with someone knocking on the door. I close my eyes, heaving softly. God knows, I'm not a whore. I'm really not a slut, but Conrad is hell-bent on reducing me to nothing. Being a stripper doesn't mean we deserve no respect over our bodies, of course we still do, but it's obvious I sold my pride, soul and body the moment I accepted that offer back then in the club. I shouldn't have. Literally, I didn't know it was this freak I was going to have a thing to do with. I wouldn't be so blind as to jump into a burning furnace if I did. The silence in the room is almost choking, unbearable. Like Conrad isn't even ready to let the person in, like he just got robbed of something important. "Sir?" The voice comes again, slower now. Conrad sighs, then glances up at me. "Pick up your panties," he instructs with a glare. My fingers dig into my palms as I wish the ground could open and pull me in. This is embarrassing. Slowly, I lower myself down and grab my panties, then shuffle them inside my purse before standing straight like nothing happened. Conrad sighs softly, then turns to the door. "Come in," he mumbles. The door swings open, and she walks in; short brunette hair, overly heavy make-up and a short skirt that exposes a good portion of her thighs. Not to talk of the heels she's wearing. She's a typical example of a crazy bad bitch. She pauses at the door, casts me an unfriendly stare from hair to toe, like I came to drag a possession from her or something. She rolls her eyes, then resumes her walk towards Conrad. I just stand there, wondering why she gave me that stare. "Good morning, sir." She greets him. At least she still has a little manners left. She drops something like a white envelope on Conrad's desk. "That's the letter, sir," she says softly. "I'm taking my leave now." She quickly adds with a bow, turns to leave, but... "Are you sure about this?" Conrad's voice makes her halt in her steps. She smiles, not a great one, but she still smiles. "I'm convinced with my decision, sir. I just need to get myself out of this environment and try something new, like a new environment?" She responds softly with a sad chuckle, and I'm forced to pinch myself hard, wondering what really transpired between the two. Why the tense atmosphere? I almost wonder out loud, but chill, Diane, that's not your tea. "I have something for you," Conrad begins. He pushes his hand forward, grabs something from the nearby desk and hands it over to the lady. "I hope this helps. You're one of the best secretaries I've ever had." he mutters, casting me a brief glance as he hands the stuff over to her. So much for a lady dressed heavily while still trying to hide her pain. I hiss softly, taking my gaze away from them. Oh great. Seems like the lady is the former secretary, but why would she quit if she... I didn't come here to get interested in the show. I've got my own problems strangling me. "I appreciate the kind gesture." She smiles softly. "It's just a token, and by the way, I'll need you to enlighten my new secretary briefly about how we operate here." he instructs, and I'm instantly forced to turn my gaze to them. Brief me? Dude, I was your secretary for at least a few months before I was thrown away like a piece of shit. I know how the company operates, the hell? That's literally what I'm screaming in my damn mind, but I can't even say it out loud. It's as if my mouth is gagged. She smiles, then turns to me. "I'm..." "Save the niceties and cut straight to it." I cut her in. The smile vanishes from her face like it was never there, and she mutters an "Oh!" rather inaudibly. Is she trying to act nice because Conrad threw her some token? This is the same lady who almost dragged me to the pit of hell with a murderous glare the moment she walked in. She clears her throat and starts with the boring story. How early I'm supposed to come to work, how to serve Conrad as if he's some God who has my destiny tied to a particular thing and one misbehaviour from me could cost my destiny. How I'm expected to help boost the company's financial income and manage the schedule of work for Conrad. It's boring, trust me, and I have no idea when a loud yawn seeps from my throat, interrupting the moment. The lady and Conrad share a confused stare before Conrad's gaze sweeps to me, jaw tight. I gently mutter an apology, and the lady nods. "And most importantly, you must always be at his service. We don't care if you're unable to make it that day, if you're going through menstrual cramps, critically ill or even hospitalized. You must be at work, every fucking day, even if you have to swim across a bridge." She adds, and I'm forced to chuckle, that kind of taunting chuckle that says "Hey, you're being overly ridiculous here, you know." But the two don't even budge. They only stare at me like I've grown multiple heads they can't even comprehend. When all I get from them is that neutral expression, my face twists into a tight frown. They aren't being ridiculous or even joking. They mean it? "I have a question..." "No questions, Miss Hall. You're not here to be interviewed and to listen to your piles of questions." Conrad sharply cuts in, and my eyes widen in shock. "What?" I gasp. Heaven knows I can't count how many times I've been struck with waves of shock that all I can do is gasp. He smirks, and I scoff. "You mean I'm going to work for three months straight without a break? Even if I'm ill, hospitalized or...?" I ask the question I want to ask. He only stares over at the lady. "You can leave." he tells her, then simply turns to me. "Get to work, Miss Hall." he says instead, ignoring my questions like I never asked them. I bite my tongue hard, staring at him with mixed feelings, my heart burning with rage. Three months, then everything will be over. Really over. I can't help but assure myself weakly.Diane's POVIs it only me, or is Conrad's scandal fading already? With the scandal handled by his PR team, none of the trouble falls on him, and it's been fading away as quickly as it spread. Conrad would love it. It's all he ever wanted. The scandal fading away means an end is coming to our contract sooner than I expected. I haven't gotten attached to him, only to all the things he has to offer me in return for accepting to do this with him."Are you even with me?" Conrad's voice echoes."Yes. Yes, I'm with you." I reply, batting my eyelashes. I didn't mean to be carried away with my thoughts.I'm worried for myself. The contract ending means I'll go back to being a stripper in one of the most patronized clubs in the city. That isn't me saying I'm not used to that life anymore.Conrad pays me so well, and I've gotten comfortable with being paid so well. To get the amount he pays me, I'd have to work in the club all nigh
Conrad's POVClubbing has become one of my least favorite things to do. It could be because I've been occupied with work lately; it can't be because I'm worried there might be a repeat of the last time. Here I am in front of a club, one of the private clubs in the city. I drove myself down here because it feels like I'm losing my spark, and the best way to reignite it seems to be clubbing.Everyone knows me to be the bubbly type and a nightlife lover, and I don't want that to change. I have a cap on my head, and since it's late in the night, no one should be able to recognize me."Time to unwind." I coo, and proceed to step inside.I left all my problems to Ward to handle, and it was the right decision. He has a team dedicated to solving all my problems, and it has been like that for the longest time. Whoever is stalking Diane will be caught soon. She got herself a new number, and it was my idea. I gave her strict instructions not to give anyone besides me her new contact, not her col
Diane's POVI step into the office breathing heavily. I'm two minutes late to work. I did all I could to avoid it, and that included running from the compound straight to the second floor in heels.Conrad won't go easy on me for being late. He doesn't care to know that I went to bed late, all because I was scared someone might break down my door and come for me after he left.I drop my laptop on my table and try to catch my breath. I don't look in a mirror, but I know my hair is a mess already. I ran without putting it into consideration."Mr. Conrad would like to see you." A colleague walks up to me and says. It's bad that I don't know her name, and it's like that with the rest of them too. Months in this office and I'm still a stranger.I smooth down my skirt, pat my hair twice, and give up on both. Then I pick up my phone from my bag. I already know the words Conrad will speak to me when I show up in front of him, which could be why I'm not fidgety. They won't be nice, I know. I tr
Diane's POV"Somehow, the footage we need to find out about the culprit is missing.""How is that possible?" I'm quick to ask."Whoever the culprit is, he's good at things like this."The CCTV footage would have helped us get to the bottom of the matter. I relied on it. The culprit decided to stay one step ahead of us, and that was wise of them."I have a feeling whoever is behind this is someone who knows you and me." I tell him."You might be right and you might be wrong."I heave a deep sigh that isn't of relief. Until we find out the identity of the culprit, my life is at risk. I can't say the same for Conrad because he has bodyguards looking after him.Ever since he dropped me off at work, I've been thinking about who could be behind this, but I haven't been able to figure it out. Perhaps Conrad is right, and this has to do with him and not me."Don't worry about anything. I have things under control." He interrupts the silence. He definitely says that so I can feel better."I ha
Diane's POVWhoever wants to make my life a living hell more than it already is, I have no idea. I can't stop thinking about who could be behind the anonymous messages, but I have no clue yet.I roll from one end of the bed to the other. I find it hard to fall asleep, and it could be because I know someone has been monitoring me closely, and the person sure doesn't have good plans for me."I have to make sure I lock the door." I mutter and get off the bed. Some minutes ago, I checked the door and found it properly locked, and I'm on my way to check it again. It's safe to say I'm scared of what might be coming. This might be a good time to have my friend come stay with me for a few days. Her company might make me feel safe. I get to the door and check again. It's properly locked. To get to work on time tomorrow, I must sleep early, but what do I do when sleep isn't forthcoming? Drinking to a stupor is definitely not an option. I don't want a hangover tomorrow.I look all around while r
Conrad's POV"You came at the right time." I say to Ward as he walks closely behind me."I do all the time. I have a feeling I'm about to save your ass again like I always do." He responds.I sit on the sofa in the living room. I had a long day at work and I know I ought to go straight to my room for a shower, but there's something important I want to share with Ward.He sits next to me, his eyes fixed on the television screen. My team and his are playing today, which must be the main reason he came, but I'm not in the mood for banter tonight."You kept me waiting at your door. I thought you'd close from work by 5pm. Did you go somewhere after work today?""Yes." I coo."I told you to give me one of your spare keys, but you refused. If you had, I wouldn't have had to wait at the door for hours." He mutters. He's my best friend, but I'm not willing to give him unrestricted access to my space for no personal reason. I take off my suit and take a deep breath. It feels like the right thin
