LOGINConrad's POV
My eyes shoot up from the piles of files the moment I perceive her scent; lavender. I had no idea she would resume work this early, since she was skeptical about taking the offer, but here she is, standing before me. She wears a short gown that stops right below her knee, a split on the left thigh exposing part of her skin. The neckline dips low, and the gown hugs her features, accentuating her curves. I stare at her for a short moment, and in that very moment, my mind reels back to everything that happened in the clubhouse. How she moved against me with reckless abandon, how perfectly she fit in my arms, as if she was made for it, just for it only. The memory twists something in me, and before I can even wrap my head around anything, I feel the heat crawl up my neck. Holy shit. Get a grip, Conrad Beaumont, I curse underneath my breath. She has no right to... Maybe she does? I tilt my head with a smile, then say the only thing my mind can process. "You're late." I mumble softly. At least that's something, anything to divert my mind from thoughts of her. She seems astonished because a gasp spills from her throat, eyes widening in shock. "What?" She spits, and I chuckle. Anything for that reaction. Anything. I wasn't expecting her to bluntly say she isn't my secretary, but whatever her mind tells her. I roll my tongue in my mouth. "My personal, little plaything? Is that what you are?" I see the crack in her expression and the anger struggling to explode, because her entire face reddens with rage. To my surprise, she rushes forward, ready to pounce on me like a lion that just got wounded. "Come here and sit on my lap, Miss Hall." I instruct huskily, my voice caught between desire and something else. She halts, her eyes shooting wide once again, lips parted. "What... What did you just say?" She mutters, her voice laced with something I can't even place my finger on. Pain? Or even disgust? I don't know. Am I going to take her in my office on the first day of resumption? No. Will I take her in my office soon? Yes. That's a given, I mean, that's why she's getting paid after all. I lean back against the swivel chair, arms crossed on my chest and a mischievous grin sprawled across my lips. "Hmm," I nod. "Come here, and don't make me say it a third time." I instruct more concisely this time, and I see her bite her side lip, hard. "We didn't agree on you putting your hands on me right from the first..." "I never specified when I'll be putting my hands on you." I shoot, cutting her off. She glares at me, her gaze blazing with fury. "I don't think I can keep up with this." She mumbles through clenched teeth. I shrug. "You might as well make use of the exit door. But I know you; you need that money more than I need your company. I'm not taking advantage of you, it's a win-win if you ask me." I swipe my tongue across my bottom lip, picking up my pen from the desk to resume my work. I hear her hiss, then her voice comes. "I really don't care about the money." I only hum a reply, choosing to ignore her this time. Diane Hall? I already know her more than she can imagine, and I know she won't be able to walk out through that door without running back to me. Of course, she needs the money. If she isn't in dire need of it, she wouldn't have picked the offer to begin with. I hear the sound of her footsteps, soft but unsteady. She gets to the door, pulls the handle, then releases a harsh breath. She's trapped, obviously. She turns briskly to me, then walks right back. "You're being unfair." She points. I smile softly. "Fate itself is cruel." I correct her. I mean, it was fate that linked us together. I didn't walk my ass right to her. She squeezes the hem of her dress softly, glances briefly at me before glancing at the sofa behind her. "You... You've got some ground rules or something? Can't have you do whatever you want." The words feel heavy on her lips, really, because she can't even look me in the eye as she asks. "No rules." "Then you're going to..." "No, not that either. I want you to take your time and let me watch." I cut her in. Her shoulders slump as her purse slips, crashing heavily on the marble floor. "What... What?" She stutters. "You in or out?" I ask straight up. It's fine to cut straight to the chase. "You're mean." I hear her mumble with an exhale. Slowly, she begins walking towards the sofa, each step heavier than the last, her hands gripping the hem of her dress. Just a step from the sofa, she pauses, then turns to me. I see the tears brimming in her eyes, mixed with dreadful hate. That's when I'm supposed to tell her to stop, but I can't even bring myself to do that, maybe because I really want to see where this goes? Or because my pulse keeps hammering in my ears? Slowly, her hands move to the zipper at her side, and in one swift motion, a scrap of lace hits the floor. Tension curls in the air like a thick fog. I gulp twice, my chest tightening. Shit. However, just as she's about to lower herself onto the sofa, a knock sounds on the door, sharp and precise, interrupting the moment. My gaze sweeps up to the door... Who the hell is that?Diane's POVIs it only me, or is Conrad's scandal fading already? With the scandal handled by his PR team, none of the trouble falls on him, and it's been fading away as quickly as it spread. Conrad would love it. It's all he ever wanted. The scandal fading away means an end is coming to our contract sooner than I expected. I haven't gotten attached to him, only to all the things he has to offer me in return for accepting to do this with him."Are you even with me?" Conrad's voice echoes."Yes. Yes, I'm with you." I reply, batting my eyelashes. I didn't mean to be carried away with my thoughts.I'm worried for myself. The contract ending means I'll go back to being a stripper in one of the most patronized clubs in the city. That isn't me saying I'm not used to that life anymore.Conrad pays me so well, and I've gotten comfortable with being paid so well. To get the amount he pays me, I'd have to work in the club all nigh
Conrad's POVClubbing has become one of my least favorite things to do. It could be because I've been occupied with work lately; it can't be because I'm worried there might be a repeat of the last time. Here I am in front of a club, one of the private clubs in the city. I drove myself down here because it feels like I'm losing my spark, and the best way to reignite it seems to be clubbing.Everyone knows me to be the bubbly type and a nightlife lover, and I don't want that to change. I have a cap on my head, and since it's late in the night, no one should be able to recognize me."Time to unwind." I coo, and proceed to step inside.I left all my problems to Ward to handle, and it was the right decision. He has a team dedicated to solving all my problems, and it has been like that for the longest time. Whoever is stalking Diane will be caught soon. She got herself a new number, and it was my idea. I gave her strict instructions not to give anyone besides me her new contact, not her col
Diane's POVI step into the office breathing heavily. I'm two minutes late to work. I did all I could to avoid it, and that included running from the compound straight to the second floor in heels.Conrad won't go easy on me for being late. He doesn't care to know that I went to bed late, all because I was scared someone might break down my door and come for me after he left.I drop my laptop on my table and try to catch my breath. I don't look in a mirror, but I know my hair is a mess already. I ran without putting it into consideration."Mr. Conrad would like to see you." A colleague walks up to me and says. It's bad that I don't know her name, and it's like that with the rest of them too. Months in this office and I'm still a stranger.I smooth down my skirt, pat my hair twice, and give up on both. Then I pick up my phone from my bag. I already know the words Conrad will speak to me when I show up in front of him, which could be why I'm not fidgety. They won't be nice, I know. I tr
Diane's POV"Somehow, the footage we need to find out about the culprit is missing.""How is that possible?" I'm quick to ask."Whoever the culprit is, he's good at things like this."The CCTV footage would have helped us get to the bottom of the matter. I relied on it. The culprit decided to stay one step ahead of us, and that was wise of them."I have a feeling whoever is behind this is someone who knows you and me." I tell him."You might be right and you might be wrong."I heave a deep sigh that isn't of relief. Until we find out the identity of the culprit, my life is at risk. I can't say the same for Conrad because he has bodyguards looking after him.Ever since he dropped me off at work, I've been thinking about who could be behind this, but I haven't been able to figure it out. Perhaps Conrad is right, and this has to do with him and not me."Don't worry about anything. I have things under control." He interrupts the silence. He definitely says that so I can feel better."I ha
Diane's POVWhoever wants to make my life a living hell more than it already is, I have no idea. I can't stop thinking about who could be behind the anonymous messages, but I have no clue yet.I roll from one end of the bed to the other. I find it hard to fall asleep, and it could be because I know someone has been monitoring me closely, and the person sure doesn't have good plans for me."I have to make sure I lock the door." I mutter and get off the bed. Some minutes ago, I checked the door and found it properly locked, and I'm on my way to check it again. It's safe to say I'm scared of what might be coming. This might be a good time to have my friend come stay with me for a few days. Her company might make me feel safe. I get to the door and check again. It's properly locked. To get to work on time tomorrow, I must sleep early, but what do I do when sleep isn't forthcoming? Drinking to a stupor is definitely not an option. I don't want a hangover tomorrow.I look all around while r
Conrad's POV"You came at the right time." I say to Ward as he walks closely behind me."I do all the time. I have a feeling I'm about to save your ass again like I always do." He responds.I sit on the sofa in the living room. I had a long day at work and I know I ought to go straight to my room for a shower, but there's something important I want to share with Ward.He sits next to me, his eyes fixed on the television screen. My team and his are playing today, which must be the main reason he came, but I'm not in the mood for banter tonight."You kept me waiting at your door. I thought you'd close from work by 5pm. Did you go somewhere after work today?""Yes." I coo."I told you to give me one of your spare keys, but you refused. If you had, I wouldn't have had to wait at the door for hours." He mutters. He's my best friend, but I'm not willing to give him unrestricted access to my space for no personal reason. I take off my suit and take a deep breath. It feels like the right thin
