Ruiz Giovanni
~•~ “Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.” My shrill voice echoed through the church. “It has been long since I had my last confession.” “What troubles you, my child?” The priest's voice echoed from the other side of the confession room. “I have killed a total of fifteen persons in the last twenty-four hours,” I said and closed my eyes tightly as the memories of the previous day replayed in my head. Father Francis let out a loud gasp and I put my hand over my mouth to prevent myself from laughing. “Did you at least do it for a good cause, Ruiz?” Of course, I wouldn’t go around killing people if it wasn’t necessary. They crossed my territory. They stole from me and I had to retaliate by wiping out half of their men. “Yes, they stole from me.” I raked a hand through my long black hair. “Forgive me, father.” I slumped my head back on the wooden chair. “Ruiz, my child, your sins are grave indeed.” Father Francis said, his voice laced with concern. “But the lord is always ready to forgive his children, you’re forgiven. Strive to do better because I fear for your soul.” I snorted, a wry smile spreading across my face. “My soul is long gone. But I will strive to do better.” The lie tasted bitter on my lips but I needed to tell Father Francis what he wanted to hear. I walked out of the confessional booth, holding back a grin as I made my way out of the church. One must’ve wondered why I always confessed my sins without any fear but I had Father Francis wrapped around my fingers. He wouldn’t dare say anything about me because he knew it would just put his life in danger. Aside from that, I trusted him. My mother forced me and my siblings to go to church regularly while growing up. So technically, Father Francis watched me grow up. I grew fond of him and he tried his best to stop me from joining gangs back when I was a teenager, but my mind was made up and all his pleas fell on deaf ears. Even if I considered his pleas at one point in my life, there was no redemption for me anymore, because I wasn’t going to stop until I found out who exactly killed my brother. As I settled in my car, I turned up the stereo and was about to start the ignition of the car when my phone started ringing. It was Lorenzo calling. Lorenzo was my best friend and my partner. “Speak, brother,” I asked as I put him on speaker while my eyes were fixed on the road. “I’ve gotten intel on the other gang who stole from us, I’ll send you the details now.” As soon as he ended the call, my phone pinged with a text. I shook my head as I read his text. The location wasn’t far from where I was. Lorenzo and some of our other men were going to meet me there. Two gangs came together to steal from me. Initially, we had found only one of them. The people who made me visit Father Francis earlier. “I guess I have to sin again.” Anger coursed through my veins as I matched the brakes of the car and turned around, driving at full speed to the Martinez resident. I respected Mr. Martinez and I never expected him and his members to steal my money and drugs. We were competitors, so we didn’t see eye to eye, but I still respected him and would never steal from him. Pulling up at the front gate, I opened the compartment of my car where I always kept my gun. I brought it out and made sure it was loaded before I stepped out of the car. Lorenzo asked me to wait for his arrival before making any move but I didn’t have much patience. I was fueled by anger, so I walked towards the gate and banged on it multiple times. One guard opened the gate to see who it was and before he could say anything, I shot him on the head. His body fell to the ground and I walked past him. As I entered inside, two other guards came firing shots at me, but I took them down with just two bullets. I had been to the Martinez residence a few times for business, so I knew my way around some parts of the house. I made my way to the front door but before I could twist the door handle, I heard Lorenzo’s voice behind me. “You couldn’t wait?” He asked and I turned. His eyes darted across the lifeless bodies on the ground. From his expression, I could tell he wasn’t surprised. The other men surrounded the compound while Lorenzo and I went into the house. The front door was easy to bypass. It was my line of work, so it didn’t give me much trouble. I could only hear voices coming from the TV in the living room. Lorenzo and I walked over to the living room and my surprise, I saw Martinez and his family seated with scared looks on their faces. It was him, his wife, and two of his teenage kids. “Ruiz, you don’t have to do this. We can talk about it.” Martinez pleaded when I pointed the gun at his wife who was also begging for her life. I let out a dry chuckle. He knew what he did and there was nothing to talk about. He crossed a line and he was going to pay the consequences. Without wasting time, I fired a shot at his wife and the blood spilled all over the cream-colored sofa. The rest of the family gasped in disbelief and I could see the fear in their eyes. “Ruiz, plea…. ” I didn’t let him complete his sentence before I fired a shot at him too, making his body fall to the ground. I turned over to the children. I didn’t want them to have a life without their parents, so I fired two shots at them too. “Let’s go.” Lorenzo and I were about to walk back to the front door when we heard a brief sound coming from the staircase. “Did you hear that too?” Lorenzo asked and I nodded. We both went upstairs and as we ascended the stairs, we heard footsteps running in the corridor. We looked at each other for a second before I increased my pace, running upstairs faster. “Stop or I’ll shoot you too!” I commanded, my gun trained on the fleeing figure. She froze and turned around slowly, it was dark but I could tell it was a female. As I moved closer to her, I discovered she was Martinez's oldest daughter. I had seen her once or twice on several occasions. She didn’t live in Spain and I had no idea she was in the country. “Please don’t kill me.” She pleaded in a slightly cracked voice. I pursed my lips, thinking hard about what to do with her. “Kill her, and let’s get out of here.” Lorenzo urged but I shook my head and lowered my gun. She was too beautiful to die just like that.Chapter 62 Ruiz Giovanni ~•~ It took me a second to process what was happening. “Fuck!” I cursed through gritted teeth when it dawned on me that my mother was missing. My noise woke Carla from her sleep. “What’s going on?” She asked, her voice slightly groggy. I took a deep breath and narrowed my eyes at her. “Did you touch my phone yesterday?” I had to ask because I didn’t recall putting my phone on silent. There was no way I would have missed so many calls from them. I was very alert and would have heard my phone ringing. Carla nodded, rubbing her eyes with her hand. “Yes, I had to put it on silent because someone was constantly calling and I didn’t want to interrupt your sleep.” My jaw hardened and my hands curled into a fist. I couldn’t believe she would fuck up like that. She knew how my life was and how important it would be to wake me up if someone was constantly trying to reach me. “Get out, Carla!” My husky voice echoed through the room and she f
Chapter 61 Ruiz Giovanni ~•~ Most people around me always thought of me as unhinged. At first, I found it offensive when they labeled me as unhinged, but after I took a step back and thought about all my actions, I realized I was actually an unhinged person. As I drove back home, I couldn’t help but wonder how Ava would react when she eventually realized that her date was dead. Yes, I killed Marcus. He wasn’t an honest person. He wanted to hurt MY Ava and I wouldn’t just sit and watch that happen. I couldn’t just pretend like I didn’t see him kissing another woman. Now both of them would continue whatever they wanted to do in the afterlife. I wanted to clear my head, so I took the longest route back home. Just as I turned on the car stereo and started playing loud music, my phone started ringing. I let out a loud sigh when I saw that it was Carla who was calling me. “What do you want?” I asked in annoyance when I answered the call. “Where are you? I mis
Ava Martinez ~•~ When I arrived at the house, I was excited to see Maria. Maria had been away for a while because she had to visit her family. It was safe to say that my stay at the house was boring because of her absence. I missed her a lot and I was glad to have her back. “I got a lot of clothes for you when I went shopping the other day,” I said to Maria as she accompanied me upstairs. “Ruiz allowed you to go shopping?” She asked with a puzzled expression registered on her face. “Wow, that’s new.” I understood her shock because I could count how many times I had left the house since he trapped me there. I was even surprised that he allowed me to have this newfound freedom. I couldn’t help but laugh as I continued. “He even allowed me to go out on a date with a man I met at the mall. I just finished having a lunch date.” Maria paused and gasped in disbelief. “Are you serious, Ava? How did it happen?” I hesitated for a while as I thought about the perfe
Chapter 59 Ruiz Giovanni ~•~ Ava thought I was cool with the idea of her going out on a date with a random man who she met at the mall. But she didn’t know that it made me jealous and upset. I had promised to stop controlling her life. I had even gotten rid of the cloned phone. But no matter how hard I tried to respect her boundaries, I couldn’t shake off the urge to know every detail about her life. She thought she was going alone on a date but I had other plans. I couldn’t just sit and watch someone else take her away from me. I needed to do something about it. Initially, I thought Ava would get upset and cancel her plans if I asked her to go with security. But she wasn’t fazed by it. She agreed without hesitation. I was surprised. Maybe she really liked the man and wanted to go on a date with him badly. Or maybe she knew what I was up to and didn’t want me to win. I asked the security to keep a close eye on them. Earlier, I asked Ava to send me details of
Chapter 58 Ava Martinez ~•~ It was weird that I was being escorted to a date with security. But that was the only way I was allowed to be able to leave the house. Marcus had sent me details of where he wanted to meet and I was on my way there. I mean, we were on our way there - me and the security. I was nervous to see Marcus. It wasn’t like I had a crush on him or something. I just didn’t want to accidentally spill something about my life to him while we talked. My phone buzzed with a text from him. He was texting to let me know that he had already arrived at the location. We were only a few minutes away, so I didn’t bother to respond to his text. Soon enough, we pulled up at the driveway of the restaurant. “You’re not coming in with me,” I told the security as he opened the door for me to step out of the car. He raised his hand in mock surrender. “I’m aware, you’ve already mentioned it a thousand times.” He responded with a soft chuckle. He was right. I di
Chapter 57 Ava Martinez ~•~ Ever since the day I came back from the mall, I have been getting constant calls from the guy who collected my number from the mall. Initially, I ignored him but he was persistent, so I just decided to answer my phone. I made it clear to him that my life was already complicated enough and I didn’t need new people. But he claimed he didn’t mind and was open to making my life better. I didn’t think any human being was capable of making my life better. For a while, I stopped answering his calls and he resorted to texting me. What did he see in me that made him so attracted to me? In order to get him off my back, I decided to respond to his text. We started talking and I figured out he wasn’t bad to talk to after all. I spent the previous night talking to him and he ended up asking me out on a date. I was skeptical at first but then I decided that I was going to accept his offer. Ruiz had agreed to stop controlling my life, so I decid
Chapter 56 Ruiz Giovanni ~•~ I was resting at the poolside when my phone started ringing. I groaned inwardly as I retrieved it from the table beside my chair. I wanted to have a chill afternoon without disturbance but now, someone was calling me. As I glanced at the screen to see who the caller was, I sat upright on the reclining chair. Why was my bank calling me? “Talk to me,” I demanded as I answered the phone. “Good day, Mr. Giovanni.” The man greeted calmly. “There’s a large transaction about to happen on your card. I just wanted to cross-check and make sure that you are aware.” I nodded even though he couldn’t see me. “Sure, I’m aware,” I replied, running my hands through my hair. “How much is it though?” I had given Ava my card to go shopping earlier. But it was weird for the bank to call me because I didn’t think she would spend a large sum of money that would catch their attention. “$500k.” My eyes widened in disbelief and I gasped in shock. “$
Chapter 55 Ava Martinez ~•~ After having that conversation with Ruiz, it felt like an imaginary weight was lifted off my shoulder. I had been living in tension and it felt like torture, but hearing him apologize and agreeing to give me my freedom felt so good. I wanted to see if he was serious about letting me go wherever I wanted, so I decided to tell him I was going out to the mall. I wanted to shop for some new clothes, shoes, and accessories. Even if I didn’t have any particular place in mind to wear them to, I just wanted to partake in retail therapy. Shopping has always been therapeutic for me and I couldn’t wait to do it. It was almost noon and I was still on my bed. I had already showered and eaten, but it was the weekend and I didn’t have anything to do, so I was having a lazy day on my bed. But when the idea of telling Ruiz I wanted to go shopping came to my mind, I climbed out of my bed and made my way to his room. I knocked on his door multiple time
Chapter 54 Ava Martinez ~•~ I was on the phone with my siblings when I heard someone knocking on my door. I rounded up the call before heading over to answer the door. I opened the door slowly and popped my head outside. Ruiz was standing in front of the door. I wanted to slam the door at his face but I decided to be nice. “What do you want?” I asked, glaring at him. Ruiz let out a deep sigh. “I want to talk to you.” What did he want to talk to me about? I wasn’t interested in being in the same space with me. I didn’t even want him to come close to me. “What do you want to talk to me about?” I asked, rolling my eyes at him. “Can I come inside?” He asked, instead of answering my question. Was he out of his mind? After what happened the last time, he still wanted to come inside my room. “No, I can hear you from here.” I shook my head firmly. Ruiz sighed. “It’s confidential, I don’t want anybody to eavesdrop on our conversation.” I hesitated for a whil
