Chapter 28

Ruiz Giovanni

~•~

Many things didn’t come as a surprise to me in life but seeing Ava squealing in excitement while playing video games with me and Lorenzo left me stunned.

I could tell I had noticed a significant change in her behavior ever since I caught her when she tried to escape from my house. Perhaps she had given up on escaping and accepted her fate since her previous plans were not futile.

Lorenzo and I always used video games as a way to rewind and relax after a series of stressful events. It was our little secret. No one knew that two ruthless men would laugh and argue over video games.

I hesitated at first when Ava asked to join because I was taken aback by her request. Lorenzo was even the one who beckoned for her to join us.

Throughout Ava’s stay in my house, I hadn’t seen her laugh the way she did this night. Previously, she didn’t even smile with Lorenzo but it was different this time.

Lorenzo was also cold towards Ava every single time

Chapter 66 Ava Martinez ~•~ I swallowed hard. “You killed Marcus?” I asked, my voice laced with disbelief. “Why did you kill him?” I just hoped that he had a good enough reason to justify his actions. He paused for a while. “I’ll admit that I was jealous at first, but he wasn’t a genuine person.” I wasn’t impressed by his lame excuse. How did he know that Marcus wasn’t a genuine person? He was just using that part as an excuse, he only murdered him because he was jealous that I went out on a date with him. “Who are you to judge? How do you know Marcus isn’t a genuine person?” I asked, my anger just simmering beneath me. Ruiz let out a loud sigh. “I know this might seem crazy, but believe me.” He replied and my interest was piqued. “Marcus was seeing someone else. I witnessed it after your date.” My heart skipped a bit. I didn’t know what to believe. Marcus told me that he was single and hadn’t been in a relationship for a while. Or maybe he wasn’

Chapter 65 Ava Martinez ~•~ I had no idea Carla was around. Anger surged through my veins as I saw her in the living room. She looked like she had spent the night at the house. “Can you make me breakfast?” She asked as she saw me walk past the living room. I rolled my eyes as I stared at her. I wanted to ask what she was doing at the house, but I had a lot more going on and didn’t have the time to interact with her. I ignored her and continued walking. “Didn’t you hear me?” She asked and I stopped in my tracks. “Do I look like your maid?” I asked, glaring at her. “What are you even doing here? Aren’t you done with what you came here to do?” I knew my second statement was really condescending but she deserved it. She knew damn well I wasn’t a chef or a maid, but she still asked me to make her breakfast. She should have taken a hint when I ignored her the first time, but she didn’t. Carla still went ahead to ask if I didn’t hear her. “Are you trying t

Chapter 64 Ruiz Giovanni ~•~ Letting out a frustrated sigh, I walked up to his car. “Did you find anything?” I asked, running my fingers through my hair. “They took your entire family.” My heart flew out of my chest. “What?” I asked, my eyes widened in horror. “Who took my entire family and why did they take my family?” Lorenzo sighed. “It’s a rival gang. Los Lobos.” I let out a loud chuckle. “Fucking Lobos!” They were the same people who tried to sabotage my deal with Vincent at the hangar that day. I always tried my best to stay away from them but they kept coming at me. “What do they want this time? Why did they take my family?” I asked Lorenzo through gritted teeth. “What do they fucking want for me?” “They want a meeting. Like right now.” Lorenzo replied, his voice barely above a whisper. I laughed, a cold, mocking laughter. “Why didn’t they just ask nicely? I can’t meet any of them when my family has been taken hostage!” “Ruiz, just……” I cu

Chapter 63 Ava Martinez ~•~ I found it difficult to get any sleep the previous night. I couldn’t stop thinking about Marcus. I just saw him and about a few hours later, he was found dead. I couldn’t believe it. It felt like a bad dream. What could have happened to him? It didn’t say he was involved in an accident. He just died mysteriously! Something was definitely wrong. Different thoughts ran through my head but I felt like I was being paranoid. What if it was Ruiz who was behind his death? Before I left for the date, he asked me to give him some information about Marcus. I shouldn’t have done that. I should’ve known better. I didn’t want to accuse Ruiz wrongly, so I needed to be certain about my claims before confronting him. But what did he have to gain in killing Marcus? I wasn’t even planning on going out on a second date with him. Maybe he was just jealous. Ruiz allowed his jealousy to cloud his mind. He acted with thinking. I wanted to believe it was

Chapter 62 Ruiz Giovanni ~•~ It took me a second to process what was happening. “Fuck!” I cursed through gritted teeth when it dawned on me that my mother was missing. My noise woke Carla from her sleep. “What’s going on?” She asked, her voice slightly groggy. I took a deep breath and narrowed my eyes at her. “Did you touch my phone yesterday?” I had to ask because I didn’t recall putting my phone on silent. There was no way I would have missed so many calls from them. I was very alert and would have heard my phone ringing. Carla nodded, rubbing her eyes with her hand. “Yes, I had to put it on silent because someone was constantly calling and I didn’t want to interrupt your sleep.” My jaw hardened and my hands curled into a fist. I couldn’t believe she would fuck up like that. She knew how my life was and how important it would be to wake me up if someone was constantly trying to reach me. “Get out, Carla!” My husky voice echoed through the room and she f

Chapter 61 Ruiz Giovanni ~•~ Most people around me always thought of me as unhinged. At first, I found it offensive when they labeled me as unhinged, but after I took a step back and thought about all my actions, I realized I was actually an unhinged person. As I drove back home, I couldn’t help but wonder how Ava would react when she eventually realized that her date was dead. Yes, I killed Marcus. He wasn’t an honest person. He wanted to hurt MY Ava and I wouldn’t just sit and watch that happen. I couldn’t just pretend like I didn’t see him kissing another woman. Now both of them would continue whatever they wanted to do in the afterlife. I wanted to clear my head, so I took the longest route back home. Just as I turned on the car stereo and started playing loud music, my phone started ringing. I let out a loud sigh when I saw that it was Carla who was calling me. “What do you want?” I asked in annoyance when I answered the call. “Where are you? I mis

Ava Martinez ~•~ When I arrived at the house, I was excited to see Maria. Maria had been away for a while because she had to visit her family. It was safe to say that my stay at the house was boring because of her absence. I missed her a lot and I was glad to have her back. “I got a lot of clothes for you when I went shopping the other day,” I said to Maria as she accompanied me upstairs. “Ruiz allowed you to go shopping?” She asked with a puzzled expression registered on her face. “Wow, that’s new.” I understood her shock because I could count how many times I had left the house since he trapped me there. I was even surprised that he allowed me to have this newfound freedom. I couldn’t help but laugh as I continued. “He even allowed me to go out on a date with a man I met at the mall. I just finished having a lunch date.” Maria paused and gasped in disbelief. “Are you serious, Ava? How did it happen?” I hesitated for a while as I thought about the perfe

Chapter 59 Ruiz Giovanni ~•~ Ava thought I was cool with the idea of her going out on a date with a random man who she met at the mall. But she didn’t know that it made me jealous and upset. I had promised to stop controlling her life. I had even gotten rid of the cloned phone. But no matter how hard I tried to respect her boundaries, I couldn’t shake off the urge to know every detail about her life. She thought she was going alone on a date but I had other plans. I couldn’t just sit and watch someone else take her away from me. I needed to do something about it. Initially, I thought Ava would get upset and cancel her plans if I asked her to go with security. But she wasn’t fazed by it. She agreed without hesitation. I was surprised. Maybe she really liked the man and wanted to go on a date with him badly. Or maybe she knew what I was up to and didn’t want me to win. I asked the security to keep a close eye on them. Earlier, I asked Ava to send me details of

Chapter 58 Ava Martinez ~•~ It was weird that I was being escorted to a date with security. But that was the only way I was allowed to be able to leave the house. Marcus had sent me details of where he wanted to meet and I was on my way there. I mean, we were on our way there - me and the security. I was nervous to see Marcus. It wasn’t like I had a crush on him or something. I just didn’t want to accidentally spill something about my life to him while we talked. My phone buzzed with a text from him. He was texting to let me know that he had already arrived at the location. We were only a few minutes away, so I didn’t bother to respond to his text. Soon enough, we pulled up at the driveway of the restaurant. “You’re not coming in with me,” I told the security as he opened the door for me to step out of the car. He raised his hand in mock surrender. “I’m aware, you’ve already mentioned it a thousand times.” He responded with a soft chuckle. He was right. I di
