Chapter 150

Author: Lightmoon
Orion told Marisol most of what had happened at school today. Even so, he didn't mention the part where Andre wanted to be the big brother and was always getting angry, because he'd promised Andre he wouldn't.

Nolan had taught him that a good friend would always keep their word.

After listening, Marisol got the gist of it. "So you want to be good friends with him and play together, but he doesn't really want to play with you?"

Orion tilted his head and thought for a moment, then nodded gently. Marisol felt a bit troubled.

She'd put it diplomatically just now, but honestly, she got the feeling that the child Orion was talking about probably didn't really like playing with him. But this was Orion's first time actively reaching out to a peer, so it was incredibly precious.

After thinking it over, she asked, "If you really want to be friends with him, Orion, maybe you could try giving him a gift?"

It was worth a shot. Everyone loved gifts, kids and adults alike.

Stepping into the bedroom, Lucian found Andre sitting on the floor. His back was turned. Scattered around him were shattered model pieces and the torn remains of a lantern painted with little animals. Lucian remembered. Back when Orion first started school, he and Andre had gotten along well. He'd even given Andre that very lantern adorned with hand-painted animals. Thinking back now, it was likely Marisol who had painted it for Orion, who then passed it to Andre. Andre had loved it back then, so much so that he'd stored it carefully in a box. Yet now it lay in ruins. He must've been truly heartbroken. Lucian didn't offer comfort. Instead, he pulled over a chair and sat there. He looked down at Andre's back with quiet detachment. "Did you cry?" he asked. "I didn't!" Andre shot back, his voice thick with emotion."Are you upset?" "No!" "It's okay to cry when you're sad. I'll allow it this time." "I'm not crying." Andre's defiance wavered, but hitching sobs escaped a

Marisol had been resting her head against Orion's hospital bed when the sound of footsteps drew her attention. She looked up to see Nolan entering while rubbing his wrist."What happened?" she asked. Nolan shook his head and replied, "It's nothing. Has Orion woken up?" Marisol shook her head in return. They both fell silent, each sinking into their chair. At last, Marisol broke the silence. "I'm really sorry for what happened. I've already returned the money you gave me to help look after Orion. I'll cover all his medical expenses from now on. I truly am sorry." Nolan remained silent for a moment before asking, "Why are you apologizing for something that wasn't your fault?""But Andre—" "That's not on you either," Nolan interjected. He pressed the bridge of his nose, and weariness clouded his expression. Then, an unexpected question came. "Marisol, are you still planning to leave the country?"Though puzzled, she nodded in response. "By when?" he inquired again. "I

"Mom!" Andre yelled. Realizing what was happening, he bolted after Marisol, only to be caught by the bodyguard stationed at the doorway. Marisol didn't look back. "Take him back to Crimson Oaks Estate," she said faintly. That was his true home. …"Mom! Mom!" Andre screamed, thrashing fiercely against the bodyguards' hold with his fists flailing. Just then, a deep, commanding voice cut through, "Andre Muller." Andre froze mid-motion at once. He looked up at the approaching man with reddened eyes. "Dad," he choked out. "Go home," Lucian said in a cool voice."But—""Home."That single word, devoid of inflection, silenced Andre. With that, Zayne stepped forward to carry him away. "Your hand—" Lucian tried to approach Marisol, but the two bodyguards moved in unison to block his path. She stood behind them, and her face was turned to the side. Her expression was unreadable, and her silence was absolute. The tension stretched until Nolan emerged from the adjacen

In the city hospital, the doctor cleaned and dressed the wound on Marisol's right hand. After giving her a few instructions, he exited the ward. Marisol and Andre remained in the ward. Silence settled between them.Andre sat with his head bowed, and his faint sobs were barely audible. Yet Marisol felt no desire to comfort him. Her emotions were a tangled mess, jumbled, and laced with fear. Back at the restaurant, the moment Andre hurled that plate toward her, there had been a split second when she thought she saw Lucian in him. The resemblance was terrifying. They bore the same self-centeredness and reckless impulsiveness. After a long pause, Marisol finally spoke. She kept her tone calm as she asked, "Andre, do you understand what you did? If that plate had hit Orion in the head, do you realize what could've happened?" "But he started it! Why was he calling you 'Mommy'?" Andre shot back, looking up with reddened eyes. "Or do you really have another kid out there?" "No, he

Andre frowned and remarked, "But you and Dad never fought. You didn't even yell at each other." Marisol wanted to explain that it wasn't some marital slump, but pure hatred. Yet, she had no clue how to explain that to a seven-year-old.After all, children shouldn't carry the weight of adult resentments. That kind of burden would only breed fear and leave emotional scars. Just as she was struggling to find the right words, a small figure came barreling toward them. A crisp and bright voice rang out. "Mommy!" In an instant, a child was in Marisol's arms. Before she could process this, Andre erupted in anger. His face turned red as he yelled, "Who are you?"He yanked at the child clinging to Marisol's waist. "Let go! That's my mom! Mine!"The little boy clung tighter, refusing to release her. He then burst into sobs at Andre's screams. "No, she's my mommy! I won't let go!" "Let go!" Andre yelled. "No!" "Let go right now!" "I won't!" The scene devolved into chaos, and

Andre leaned closer and grabbed Marisol's hand. His eyes were bright and expectant as he inquired, "Mom, did you bring me a present from your trip? You still owe me one, remember?" Marisol knew Andre was bound to make a scene if she were to say no. "Next time," she uttered. Andre's smile vanished. He yanked Marisol's hand away and shouted, "That's what you said last time, too! It's always 'next time'. Mom, you lied again. You told me only bad kids lie. That means you're bad too!" Several nearby diners turned toward the commotion. As Andre's tears threatened to fall, Marisol suppressed a sigh and attempted gentle reasoning. But the moment she spoke, he wailed even louder. Her headache surged. Just then, from across the table, Lucian's voice rang out. "Andre."The child's cries cut off instantly. Andre shut his mouth, though tears still glistened in his eyes. The swift obedience chilled Marisol. It was always like this. Andre never listened to her. Her words held no weight
