Chapter 169

Penulis: Lightmoon
After a long wait, the tow trucks finally arrived. One by one, the damaged cars were pulled away, and Marisol finally got out of her vehicle. By then, the other drivers involved in the pileup had already finished arguing and were sorting things out amongst themselves.

The driver who had initially lost control came over to apologize and asked for her phone number so they could work out the insurance details.

Since she was desperate to get to the courthouse and didn't have time to deal with all the back-and-forth negotiations, she quickly gave him her contact information and said they'd figure it out later. Then, she frantically started scrolling through her ride-share app, trying to book a car.

Her vehicle was obviously totaled and completely undrivable. But strangely enough, even though she'd been trying to call for rides while trapped in her car, not a single driver seemed to be available, which was incredibly bizarre for this area.

She'd asked the traffic officers if they could

"We've been through a life-or-death situation. That means we're survival buddies!" Zachary exclaimed.Marisol was stunned.Zachary's train of thought never failed to surprise her. It was totally unexpected. And yet, she couldn't help being positively influenced by how lively and optimistic he was.So, despite her splitting headache, she struggled to get to her feet and stretched out her right hand toward Zachary as well. She bumped fists with him as a smile formed on her lips."I guess we are.""Survival buddies!"They had survived a life-or-death situation together.Surprisingly, with such a strange experience behind them and the current fist bump, Marisol could feel the last of her despair, which she'd suppressed within her for a while, vanish into thin air. Instead, she felt invigorated, as if her body and limbs were being injected with a burning fire of passion and justice… and maybe more. However, that didn't matter anymore. Marisol and Zachary were now both standing i

The sky was gray, and the rain was torrential. The road along the mountainside was curved and twisted, and rocks just kept rolling down onto the road around them. Most of the rocks crashed right into the river on the other side of the road, resulting in countless heavy splashes towering over the road.A tiny black dot could barely be seen through the sheets of water splashing up from the river, driving fervently ahead on the road. Its efforts were almost as futile as a paper boat trying to survive a storm, given the magnitude of everything that was happening at the same time. And yet, the car still pushed forward with hope, struggling to keep alive.Small rocks and gravel hammered relentlessly onto the car. The sound was far louder than any raindrops crashing against the windshield.Marisol grabbed her seatbelt and stayed glued to her seat. She tried her best not to scream so that she wouldn't distract Zachary while he maneuvered the car. There were times when the car lost tract

Marisol was suddenly aware that her words would anger Lucian, so she hurriedly said, "No, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'll take you to the hospital, okay? "Please, I promise I didn't put much in the wine! I'm begging you… Please let me take you to the hospital… We can see a doctor, and I promise nothing will happen! It was just a tiny amount! They told me there aren't any side effects at all. You have to believe me!"Please, please, please, I'm sorry! Oh, your fiancee! You can call your fiancee and ask her to come by! Please, I'm begging you…"Marisol kept running around the room like a frightened, headless chicken. She gasped and cried loudly. There was the faint sound of laughter in the air, tinged with that of mockery, and Marisol thought that she heard a deep, scratchy voice amidst the laughter."Who was the wine intended for again?"Marisol cried so hard that her mind went blank. She didn't even try to answer as she bolted for the door at the first opportunity and started banging

"What?"Marisol couldn't understand what was going on in Lucian's head. She turned to leave with the wine glasses in her hand, but suddenly, someone grabbed the glasses from her. She wasn't holding anything anymore. Her hands were empty before she could even snap back to her senses.Marisol got anxious. She glared at Lucian, who was now dabbing lightly at his wet lips as he challenged her with his expression and what looked like a hint of anger in his eyes. His eyes were dark, and Marisol just couldn't figure a thing out from them."You'd better make sure that you're doubly and triply sure of this.""You're out of your mind!"Marisol was so mad she nearly burst a vein. She quickly shoved him aside and headed toward the dance floor. However, her hands wouldn't stop shaking. Nothing was going to happen… right?Little did she know that she wouldn't even have time to think about the consequences later on.…The spotlights on the dance floor gradually turned off. Suddenly, the st

The lighting was dim, and everything fell quiet.Even Nick was completely taken aback by Marisol's question. He froze in place and stared at her for the longest time ever, as if he couldn't believe what she just said. Finally, his mouth moved a little. "W-What did you just say?"Marisol repeated her question. Her face was as red as a tomato. She felt ashamed and guilty as she explained everything, albeit with much complication, about her situation at home now.She then hung her head awkwardly. If she had a choice, she would rather hide her past for the rest of her life. But now, at this point, she knew that she was going to have to explain herself clearly if she wanted Nick to help her."I know that you're thinking."I know my family is a mess. I know there's going to be a lot of complications, but I really don't know what to do anymore. I'll try my best not to drag you in any further after we get married. I promise I'll be good to you. "It's just that I really need the marria

At first, Marisol couldn't understand why Morris and Harper didn't love her. But since there was nothing she could do, she endured. Again and again. It wasn't until her final year of high school, when they tried to sell her to an old man for money, that she finally broke. She climbed over the wall and ran. Four years passed, and yet the nightmare returned. Her parents had always despised her, and whatever affection she might have once harbored for them had long since withered. She could face them now with cold detachment. But standing before her now was the very person who had been the reason she had suffered so much. Marisol found that she couldn't stay composed. When they were young, she had truly cared for Nathan. And he had adored her as a sister. When Nathan was bullied at school, he would cry for her help.
