Chapter 400

Author: Lightmoon
Marisol sat on the couch as the housekeeper tended to her wound.

Across from her, Kyro watched as blood seeped from her shoulder. He murmured, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to press on your injury. Why didn't you tell me?"

Marisol seethed inwardly, "Get lost."

She was beyond words.

Once the wound was redressed, the heavy scent of roses in the room made her drowsy. Exhaustion overcame her, and she drifted off to sleep right there on the couch.

When Marisol woke, the room was cloaked in darkness. For a moment, she lay still, blinking into the shadows until awareness crept back in. She jolted upright in alarm, wondering how she could have fallen asleep.

It was then that she realized the heavy silk gown she had worn was gone. It had been replaced by a soft nightdress.

Bathed in pale moonlight, she looked around the bedroom until her gaze fell on a familiar painting mounted on the wall.

It was an oil painting of a faceless woman, much like the one she'd seen in the hallway. Both

The shock had been too overwhelming, leaving her exhausted and drained. Marisol woke briefly before drifting back into unconsciousness. When she woke again, she found herself in Lucian's arms. Her back was pressed tightly against his bare chest, and she felt his scorching heat. Her legs were trapped between his, and she could even feel how hard he was.Fury shot straight to her head. This bastard! When she thought about all the suffering she'd endured during this time, the resentment in her chest was impossible to dispel. She opened her mouth and bit down hard on the hand draped across her chest.Lucian let out a soft hiss. He was clearly awake. She bit down with force, even drawing blood, but the man never loosened his embrace. Instead, he held her even tighter, and that part of him grew harder and hotter. His lips moved close to her ear as he spoke in a hoarse whisper."Don't move, my dear. I really can't hold back much longer. You'll have to take responsibility."This damn pe

Francis was having the time of his life driving. Before the car had even come to a complete stop, he slammed the steering wheel and laughed heartily. "Exhilarating! Absolutely exhilarating!"He hadn't driven like that in ages. It was pure, unadulterated bliss. If they weren't in the middle of an escape, he would have wanted to turn around and do another lap. While Francis was thrilled, Marisol felt nothing but misery. The violent shaking and impacts from those last few turns had aggravated her wounds that weren't fully healed yet. The pain made it feel like they were tearing open again, and between the dizziness and nausea, she passed out completely."Marisol!"…"Mr. McConnell, the ship has departed."A blonde man spoke to Kyro on the island. Kyro was still standing in front of the church. "I apologize for my negligence. I failed to stop them."Kyro shook his head. His expression was calm. "They won't escape."If he hadn't come to rescue her, perhaps he might have won. But he

A tremendous crash echoed as the iron rod went flying through the air. The motorcycle attached to the sports car shook violently, lost control, and crashed into a roadside flower pot.Feeling the arms around her waist tighten with force, Marisol instinctively looked up to see the man holding her with one arm while his other hand gripped a baseball bat, maintaining the powerful swing he'd just executed. His muscles bulged and veins protruded like a violent, ferocious beast. She'd seen the man in many states before. Calm, elegant, angry, flamboyant, confident in control, and so many more. Yet she'd never seen him look so fierce, so intimidating that just being near him created so much tension. She knew the Muller elders mostly came from military backgrounds. Lucian grew up in such an environment, so his combat abilities were naturally strong. But she never expected him to be this fierce. Now that she thought about it carefully, the most ferocious she'd ever seen the man was only in

The sea wind howled as music surged. Amidst the crowd, a woman in a white gown and veil clung to the neck of a man wearing sunglasses in an orange sports car. Before she could catch her breath, his deep, teasing voice brushed her ear, silencing the world around them for a heartbeat. When it all clicked, a burst of fury ignited inside her. Now, of all times? Seething with anger and fear, Marisol tightened her arms around Lucian and jerked forward, slamming her forehead into his. Bastard.Lucian didn't flinch. Instead, he pressed his forehead against hers and chuckled. "My dear," he murmured. "Lucian, for God's sake, can you stop trying to look cool and get us the hell out of here?" an exasperated voice cut in. Snapped out of her daze, Marisol turned and finally noticed the red-haired man. He was behind the wheel, deftly spinning the car into reverse. Catching her glance from the corner of his eye, he found time to flash her a cheeky grin. "Hey there, beautiful! I'm

Petals and music lined the entire route. The cars soon rolled to a stop before the church adorned with black roses and encircled by white doves. Beyond the invited guests, crowds of onlookers had gathered along the way, drawn in by the spectacle and celebration. The ceremony was steeped in extravagant grandeur. Even knowing the wedding was nothing more than a farce, with the groom being the only one taking it seriously, Marisol couldn't help but feel nervous. Absurd as it was, this was her first time attending a wedding as the bride. Lifting the heavy hem of her gown, Marisol stepped out of the car. Just then, a white-gloved hand reached into view, followed by Kyro's voice. There was a smile in his voice."My dear, hold on to me," he said. Marisol couldn't be sure if it was just her imagination, but in the smiling lilt of his voice, she thought she heard the faintest trace of a sob. It was as if he were crying. Was Kyro crying? The thought stunned her. She had always bel

Marisol jolted upright in bed and instinctively checked her body. Nothing seemed out of place. Assuming Kyro had locked her in, she rushed to the door only to find it opened easily. The wolf that once guarded her was nowhere in sight. Unease settled deeper in her chest. She had no idea why Kyro had knocked her unconscious. Driven by anxiety, Marisol hurried into the bathroom and locked the door. Stripping off her clothes, she examined herself in the mirror, inch by inch. Her eyes scanned for any unfamiliar marks. Her mind raced with fear over what that madman might have done. Yet, she found nothing. Her body was exactly as before, and she felt no pain or discomfort. It made Kyro's sudden behavior more bewildering. That evening at dinner, Marisol couldn't bring herself to eat. She reached out and grabbed Kyro's hand. Her silence was brimming with questions and quiet dread. Kyro caressed her veiled cheek and muttered, "Don't worry, my dear. I love you. I'd never hurt you. I j
