Emery sat on the couch and observed as Benhail's staff members slogged into the living room. They were elegantly dressed; the men in expensive suits and the women donned beautiful dinner dresses. She was conclusive that Agnes wasn't lying when she told her Benhail's workers were sophisticated. She wasn't the type to be shy in a gathering like this but right now, her palms were sweaty as her eyes surveyed them one after the other, from the hair on their heads to the shoes on their feet. Benhail was yet to come out of the room, and she knew she had to welcome them. She straightened out of the couch and walked closer to where they all stood, engrossed in the conversations they were having. She started from the ones who were closer to her, "Hello, I am Emery, welcome here." She didn't want to introduce herself as Benhail's woman as he had told her to do, she wanted him to do that himself. It felt right and more real when he did.She shook hands with them and welcomed them into the house.
Emery shut the door as soon as she got into the room, she unbuckled the straps of her sandals and shook them off her feet. Plonking on the bed, a smile found its way to her lips as she recalled everything that just happened downstairs; the words Benhail said about her, the kisses, the touches, and the few eye contacts they made to prove that whatever was happening between them was real. Benhail was good, there was no doubt about that. She was still in trance, completely oblivious to Benhail's presence in the room. She grinned and carefully heaved herself up to see him staring at her. She was startled by his glare, he smiled, waving his hand at her."Why would you rate me a four?" He took a step toward her, she joggled her head and stepped backward."That was how good you were, four. That's too much?" She asked teasingly."How good I was?" Benhail scoffed, "If you rate my acting a four, what will you rate my skills in bed?"Emery blushed, it's been a while since they played some bed ga
That was the third time she was rushing into the toilet that morning. Benhail wanted to pretend not to notice her, but he couldn't, her groans got louder each time she ran into the toilet. He set aside the files on the desk and went in with her this time. Leaning against the door, he watched as she vomited into the toilet bowl. She flushed the mess and lifted her head to see him standing by the door, arms akimbo. "Shouldn't you go to the Doctor?" He asked. "No, it's nothing serious, I will be fine. Just morning sickness that's common at the early stage of pregnancy. You don't have to worry about me." She walked over to sit on the bed. "Are you hungry?" "Yes, I am. So famished, I don't know why I eat so much these days." She looked at him, "your baby likes to eat a lot," she muttered, rolling her eyes. "Yes, the baby wants to be healthy. Come here," he stretched out his hand to her. "Why and what?" Emery's eyes squinted surprisingly. "Come with me, let's get you and the baby s
"Eat more, the baby needs more food," Agnes said, pushing the dish for Emery to fetch more food into her almost empty plate."Oh, I have eaten enough already, I can't have more." She responded. "The baby eats a lot though but I don't want to overfeed, I weigh a lot already, I don't want to add to my weight."Agnes shook her head, a small smile plastering her face. "I was pregnant before," she said.Emery stopped eating, she dropped the fork and folded her arms. "You have a child?" She asked."I would have but she died," she heaved a sigh, pulling out her glasses to wipe her eyes."Oh my God, why did she die?" Emery questioned."I was left alone to cater for her, I had nothing, she fell ill and didn't make it." She summarised, sniffing back tears that welled up at the corner of her eyes. "After he died, the man I told you about before." Emery nodded in understanding. I got into an entanglement that led to pregnancy. It was a one-night stand thing. When I found out I was pregnant, I was
Emery struggled with her zipper, she attempted again but after failing, she decided she'd change the dress into another one.Benhail noticed her every move, as she tried to zip up her dress, he smiled and slid out of the couch in the bedroom. "Can I help you with that?" He asked."Yes," Emery responded almost immediately, she really wanted to wear that dress to the opening of Amery's art gallery and art exhibition that evening. He walked over to where she was and she turned her back to him, waiting for him to pull the zipper. She felt his hand stroking her bare back and before she could resist, his hand was already moving down, below her back."Hmm," Emery groaned. "The zipper," she said."I know, but I would like to rip this dress off your body. May I?" He spun her around, pinning her to the wardrobe. "May I?" He asked again.Emery nodded her head in response, she couldn't stop him when her legs were already wet. He giggled and trailed kisses from her neck down to her belly, his mout
Lola and Emery started to hang the paintings that needed to be hung, slid in shelves the ones that Amery wanted to keep with her, and cleaned the dusty ones. When it was some minutes to the stipulated time, two of the people Amery invited walked into the showroom. They were offered drinks and sat to wait for other people to join in.When they were up to ten, she started by introducing herself, she said a few words that deserved applause and they clapped for her. After the introduction, the exhibition started. Everyone was allowed to move around, take pictures with the artworks and select the ones they were interested in. Emery and Lola attended well to everyone present, they negotiated prices very reasonably. About five of them got a painting for themselves before leaving. Amery was glad the opening of her art gallery turned out great, she got to meet people who had an interest in painting and she made some money too.It was late when the exhibition ended, Lola and Emery were keeping
The house was empty, Emery had never stayed alone in the house; that was the first time and she feared something might go wrong. It was getting dark, Benhail was not yet back from work, and Agnes had traveled to Dallas to attend a relative's wedding, leaving only her at home. She would have invited Lola and Amery over if she knew Benhail wouldn't come home early today.Pacing the living room, she checked through the window for Benhail's car whenever she heard a sound. She was worried, he needed Benhail to show up.She relieved herself by crouching on the couch, she tried to binge-watch a show on Netflix, but she didn't concentrate. She was worried about herself and Benhail; it was getting too late and then he wasn't back, she didn't want to call him. So she just stayed back, muttering silent prayers for him.Emery was dozing off when she heard the door creak open, she snapped her eyes open and jumped to her feet. "Benhail!" She yelled, hurrying to pull him into a mind-blowing hug.He
The same number had been beeping on her phone for weeks now; she didn't know whose number it was. The call always ended before she picked and it was never available whenever she tried to call again. She thought it was a wrong number the first time, but it seemed suspicious now that she had received four calls in different weeks from the same number."Are you ready?" Benhail asked, walking over to her side."Yeah, let me get my bag please." She smiled and left to get her back from the shelf. She quickly dialed the number again, hoping that the caller would pick up this time, but it was the same old story—unavailable. She locked the phone and sauntered back to meet Benhail, "Where are we going?" She asked him."You will see when we get there," he took her hand in his. "Do you feel good and can you feel the baby kicking yet?" He looked into her eyes.Emery grinned, wriggling her head. "I can't, but maybe soon." She assured him."Do let me know if the baby moves, please do." "Sure, I wou
