Bella POV

After Rick is gone, I pause to look around. The guest room is something I've never experienced. It's huge, with a high ceiling and an ornate chandelier hanging from it that sends a golden, warm light throughout the room. The walls are a soft cream and gold, and the furniture is sophisticated, with carvings and rich fabrics. A four-post bed draped in white, gauzy curtains dominates the space, and a plush carpet covers the hardwood floor. A comfortable sitting area by the window looks out over the forest, the view as lovely as a work of art.

I've never been anywhere so lovely. It feels almost as though it's a dream, one into which I don't quite fit.

My mind is interrupted by the entrance of Lily into the room. She has a tray of food in her hand, but her face is unfriendly. She is hostile as she places the tray of food on a table beside the bed.

"Why are you in our pack?" she asks harshly and accusingly.

Her question surprises me. I step back involuntarily, not knowing what to say.

"I—I wasn't trying to intrude," I stammer. "I was just."

"You shouldn't be here," she cuts in, her eyes narrowing. "Alpha Rick doesn't bring uninvited people into our territory for nothing."

Her words cut, but I'm too tired to protest. I look down instead and mutter, "I'll leave as soon as I can."

Lily huffs, turning on her heel and leaving the room without another word. The door clicks shut behind her, leaving me alone again in the beautiful yet intimidating space.

When I am finally alone in the room, the silence is heavy, bearing down on me like a weight. My eyes wander to the elegant decor, the great bed, the shining chandelier, and the flowing curtains that frame the window. It's lovely here, but I cannot suppress the ache in my chest.

My mind drifts back to my former pack. The memories come flooding in, stinging and bitter. I don't believe they rejected me. My own pack, my family, and my mate rejected me when I needed them most.

The faces of the people I thought I could trust flash before my mind, their smiles false, their words stinging. I believed Cole loved me. But when the accusations began, nobody defended me. They just stood by and allowed me to be banished, scared, and alone.

Tears tickle at the edges of my eyes, but I force them away. I will not cry. Not here. Not now.

My fingers touch the pale welts on my arm, the continued reminder of my fight to free myself. They wouldn't even hear me out, wouldn't let me tell my side of it.

Why? The question rings in my mind, without answer.

My former pack, the Blood Stone Pack, the pack I had grown up in, where I'd found my place in the world, had turned its back on me. The crushing weight of their betrayal was a knife in my chest, cold and sharp, every time I let myself think about it. The rejection cut me loose from Cole, and although that connection was no longer, the agony of being accused of something I didn't do was a thousand times worse.

They believed I had cheated on him. Me. The very thought was preposterous, but their words cut like silver on skin. My head reeled back through the day everything fell apart, the bitter taunts, the icy glances, and how Cole had looked at me, his warm, loving eyes now full of anger and revulsion.

I gripped my chest, attempting to stifle the pain that threatened to engulf me. The shame seared deep, a reminder of how swiftly love could become hate. I had loved Cole, and I'd believed he'd known me better than anyone. How could he have thought such a foul lie?

I shake my head, pushing the memories aside with an effort. It isn't time to think of the past now. I am safe now, at least safer than I have ever been before. But the agony of betrayal still stings, a hurt that no distance seems to mend.

Taking a deep breath, I recline on the bed, gazing at the complex designs of the ceiling. I have no idea what my future is, but one thing is for sure: I'll never trust so easily again.

The loud knock at the door snapped me out of my reverie. I was startled and blinked rapidly, quickly brushing away the rogue tear that had slipped through. The ache remained, but I pushed it aside as I moved towards the room.

When I pushed open the door, Lily was waiting, her face a mask. "Dinner is ready," she told me curtly, her voice allowing no refusal. I just nodded, forcing the lump down my throat.

We didn't stop in the city. We didn't have time to spare. Teddy clutched the steering wheel firmly, steering the pickup truck through the night as we traveled on through the hours. In the back of the car, Jason clutched the semi-conscious man who had provided us with directions, his hold firm, prepared to respond if the captive attempted anything.By the time the sun's first rays crept across the horizon, coloring the sky with hues of gold and red, we had reached the edge of the Moon Shine Pack's territory. A worn, tall sign greeted us at the entrance: Moon Shine Pack. My heart beat rapidly at the sight. It was uncomfortably near Redwood Pack—where I was taken captive. The memories gnawed at my mind, but I pushed them down. There was no space for fear anymore.Rick faced the assistant boss, his tone cutting. "Alfred is your boss?"The man, dazed, swallowed hard and nodded. "Yes… And there are still many women being kept in a building close by. You can save them if you don't kill yoursel

"Jason!" My voice cut through the hum of the nightclub, making him turn. His gaze locked onto mine, recognition flickering across his face.I leaned closer to Rick, whispering, "It’s possible that Jason is the man behind this female trader."Jason glided into the seat next to Teddy, his face scrunched in displeasure as he took in my appearance. "Luna, why the hell are you here? And why are you dressed like that?"I bristled. "And why are you here? Do you own this joint?"Jason snorted. "No."I folded my arms. "Then why are you here?"He scowled. "Because Georgina is missing, I'm searching for her."I uncrossed my arms. "If she's disappeared, then we must assist one another."Jason scowled. "What sort of assistance?"Before I could reply, he turned to Rick, moving forward with a relaxed air. Holding out his hand, he grinned widely. "It's great to meet you. Why don't you remove your mask? We're all friends here."Rick had been quiet until this moment, his presence a ghost in the darkened room. He

Rick turned sharply and strode toward me with long, purposeful strides. Within seconds, he was standing right in front of me, his tall frame looming over mine like an impending storm. My breath hitched as I instinctively shrank back, but he was faster; his hand shot out, seizing my wrist. His palm was burning hot against my skin, a stark contrast to the icy dread creeping up my spine."Bella." His voice was low and hoarse, thick with seething anger and something else. Possessiveness.I let out a shaky breath as his dark, piercing gaze locked onto mine, filled with jealousy and an unmistakable hunger. The intensity of his stare made me feel stripped bare, as if the flimsy fabric I wore had already melted away under his scrutiny. My heart pounded violently in my chest. He looked like a man about to claim what was his, right here and now, against this very booth."I… It's a long story, but I didn’t plan for this," I pleaded in a whisper, my voice barely audible over the pulsing music surro

The door creaked open the following morning, and I jolted awake, rubbing my eyes. The taller of the two men was in the doorway, his face impassive. He didn't speak a word but hurled a bag towards me."Get dressed. We depart in fifteen minutes."My fingers shook as I dug into the bag and drew out the clothes. The material was outrageously thin, a shining, almost-transparent fabric that was meant to cling to every contour. A clubbing outfit intended to tantalize—a flesh-hugging, lace-trimmed dress that showed virtually everything. The straps were wafer-thin, the neckline low, and the hem was scandalously short. It was the sort of clothing intended for seduction, not endurance.I had no choice.Holding back my disgust, I manhandled myself into the lingerie-like clothing, my flesh squirming at the exposure. I slipped the earpiece discreetly into my bra and held it as fast as I could. My hands moved quickly as I slapped on a few strips of makeup, smudging dark liner under my eyes to coordinate

Bella POV"Stop!" I yelled. The two men halted, their heads whirling in my direction, eyes black with anger."The fuck are you shouting for?" The taller one snarled, advancing on me. "You offering to take her spot?"I brought my chin up, making my voice remain firm. "You're not the boss of you here, huh? If he discovers that you handled his property without his permission, do you think he'll let it go?" That stumped them. The shorter one paused, fidgeting on his feet. "The boss won't mind. We scored him a damn fine haul this time. He's going to be over the moon.""Shut up!" The taller man spat, giving his partner a warning glower before swinging around to me, his sneer growing. "I see what you're doing. Playing the damn hero. Shut your stupid mouth, bitch. You aren't saving anyone."I eased my scowl, leaning forward a little, pretending to smile submissively. "Oh, you completely misunderstood me. I just wanted to say, I'm not like the rest of them. I know you men earn a great deal of mone

Bella's POVAnticipation coursed through me as I walked towards the waterfalls. The cool air, the whoosh of water, and the hint of adventure made me want to keep pace with Jestine, who strode ahead with assured steps. The walkway was rough, but I trailed after it heedlessly. Then a solid object hit the back of my head, and a stinging pain erupted. The surroundings around me became distorted, and before I could do anything, I was in darkness.Slowly coming to, I realized I was on the hard, metal floor of a truck in motion. The air was heavy with an unpleasant, musty smell, and it was hard to breathe. I attempted to roll over, but my body would not comply. Fear tingled on the fringes of my brain as I became aware that my hands and feet were bound. My wrists burned with a fierce heat—silver bindings. Whoever had bound me was well aware of what they were about.Hard blinking to get used to the dim environment, I absorbed the situation that lay before me. The van was packed with other girl
