I returned to the bedroom, in need of something clean. That need got the better of my hesitation. I entered into the bathroom and washed my face. After drying it, I went back into the bedroom, my eyes scanning the large walk-in closet.

Slowly, I went toward it. Opening the upper drawer of Rick's dresser, I discovered one of his oversized white T-shirts. As soon as I was holding it, his smell overwhelmed me, piney earthiness combined with something peculiarly his. It was seductive and yummy.

Without losing another second, I put it on. The material relaxed loosely over me, almost swallowing my body. The shirt only went up to my knees, and I did not even bother to search for anything else. I knotted my hair into a high bun and was getting ready to exit the room when there was a gentle knock at the door.

Before I could answer, it opened. The omega, Lily, came in with a tray of food, and Rick was behind her.

"I brought food up," Rick stated, his voice even. "I didn't think you'd want to come down to the dining table."

"Thank you," I whispered, feeling both thankful and embarrassed. "I'm sorry for opening your closet. I just… I needed something clean to wear."

Rick's eyes warmed, and he gave a small smile. "It's all right. You suit my T-shirt. I'll get you some clothes afterward."

He set the tray of food aside on Lily and sent her away with a nod. She bowed respectfully and departed the room. Rick went to the bed, put one of the trays down, and extended the other one to me.

"Have some soup, here," he told me, his voice soft.

I hesitated, looking at the tray. Could I believe him? What if he poisoned me? My thoughts swirled with suspicions, but before I could brood over them any longer, my stomach let out a loud rumble, exposing its hunger.

Rick laughed, and the sound was unexpectedly warm, and I found myself looking at him. Mortified, I glanced away quickly, self-conscious about how drawn to him I was.

"Eat, Bella," he coaxed softly, his voice persuasive.

Even my wolf, Mira, prodded me toward food, her presence in me being oddly demanding. I picked up the spoon with a soft sigh and took a sip of the soup.

The flavor burst in my mouth, rich and savory, more intense than I had expected. Surprised, I took another spoonful, then another. But suddenly, my stomach rebelled.

Alarmed, I dropped the spoon and clasped both hands over my mouth as nausea surged through me. I rushed to the bathroom just in time to empty the contents of my stomach into the toilet.

Leaning over the porcelain bowl, gasping and shaking, I attempted to make sense of what had occurred. Then, a voice in my head, Mira's voice, clear and sure.

"Bella, you're pregnant."

I gazed at the bathroom tiles, still in shock from what my wolf had just informed me. Pregnant. The word repeated itself in my head, and shock ran through me. How could this be?

Before I could fully process it, a voice broke through my daze. “Are you okay? ”

I almost jumped out of my skin. Rick was standing at the bathroom door, his expression unreadable.

“I’m fine,” I mumbled, nodding quickly.

Rick’s eyes narrowed, and then he growled low, a dangerous sound that sent a shiver down my spine. “It must be the food,” he muttered, his tone sharp with anger.

I could see it on his face, the anger rising, the protective instincts bubbling just below the surface. He was already leaping to conclusions, assuming I had been poisoned. I knew better, but before I could call him off, he spun as if about to charge out of the room to attack the servants.

"Rick, stop!" I said hastily, my tone sharp despite the residual sickness.

He stiffened, his eyes flicking back to mine. Uncertainty shrouded his chiseled features. "Then what was it?" he growled, frustration and worry creeping into his tone.

I faltered, my heart racing. This was it; the truth would alter everything, and I wasn't certain how he would take it. But I couldn't keep it from him anymore.

Taking a breath, I went and took hold of his hand, holding him firm. He was warm under my touch, anchoring me as I fumbled for words. At last, I fixed him with my gaze and blurted out, "I only vomited because I'm pregnant."

  • Twice Fated   Chapter 102: A New Dawn

Twelve years on.Rick and Bella had left the troubled existence of their pack far behind. Today, they are on a short holiday in a peaceful sports complex, far removed from the conflicts and politics that had previously occupied them. As the sun was setting low on the horizon, casting a golden shadow over the terrain, Rick, the Alpha King, sat on a bench with his wife, Luna Queen Bella. The heat of the late afternoon sun also softened his face, touching upon the silver strands on his previously black hair, a reflection of the wisdom and years he had accumulated throughout time. Bella laid her head on Rick's arm, her proximity a comforting salve to his spirit. He bent and planted a soft kiss on her temple, thankful for the life they'd shared together. The Moon Goddess had been gracious to him, bestowing upon him a lovely and resilient wife, a loving mother to their children, and a loyal Luna. In spite of all the errors they had committed during their journey, their love had conquered al

  • Twice Fated   Chapter 101: Truth Under Spell

Rick had spent the previous night at Bella's house in the city—his first visit there since things went wrong between them. In courtesy, Bella had allowed him to sleep in the guest room. Although they shared a roof, there was still a muted, hurting distance between them.Morning sunlight filtered through the drapes as the scent of fresh coffee wafted through the kitchen. Bella was at the counter, moving quietly to make breakfast, her movements slow and deliberate. She didn't turn when she heard Rick approach from behind her."Morning," he said softly."Morning," she answered without turning. They sat opposite each other at the table, silence extending between them until Rick finally spoke."Bella, I must tell you the truth about Georgina… about everything."She raised her gaze, her eyes wary. "Go on."Rick drew a great breath. "Georgina didn't get to me by herself. She had assistance. The spells—everything she did to me—they were provided by a witch. A dark witch. Her name is Agatha… a

  • Twice Fated   Chapter 100: His Return

Bella's POVAfter I hung up the phone with Edgar, I gazed at the light screen of my phone for a couple of seconds longer, as if his voice was still ringing through the speaker. Then I placed it on the side table next to my bed. My heart thumped in my chest, hard and furious, like a drum in the quiet of my room.Rick is coming. Those three words kept running round in my head like a catchy tune. Rick—the king. My partner. My downfall. I hadn't laid eyes on him in nine long months. Nine months of lonely pain. Nine months of unanswered questions. Nine months of attempting to erase the sound of his voice, the way he used to pronounce my name like a promise, and the heaviness of his absence each night as I lay in bed, trying to convince myself I was okay. But I wasn't.And now he was returning. I didn't sleep much afterwards. I turned and tossed under the sheets, my wolf agitated, pacing just under my skin. There was a storm brewing inside me—a mix of emotions I couldn't define. When the go

  • Twice Fated   Chapter 99: Shadows of the Heart

Rick occupied his dark room, the smell of leather and old wood thick in the air. The walls were lined with reminders of former conquests, mementos of his dominance and power as the Alpha king of the Riverbed Pack. He sat there, pensive, mulling over the burden of responsibility, when the sound of a hard knock shook him out of his trance."Alpha," a guard called out from the other side, his voice firm but with an undercurrent of urgency. "We have a problem in the dungeon." Rick let out a sigh, the sound leaving his mouth like an airless balloon. He was not a patient man, especially where Georgina was concerned. She was a thorn in his side, her insubordination a constant reminder that a little chaos could be unleashed when there was a challenge to power. "What is it?" he answered, his voice toneless."Georgina is screaming again. She's insisting on being released," the guard described, his tone laced with a touch of irritation. Rick rested back in his chair, fingers laced together under

  • Twice Fated   Chapter 98: The Unexpected Bonds

Bella's POVThe dining room was lit with soft, golden light, the atmosphere thick with the comforting scent of freshly brewed coffee. I was seated across from Cole at the large oak table, both of us sipping mugs of coffee as we spoke in hushed tones. His presence was firm, steady—something I so desperately needed with the madness swirling in my life these past few weeks. Cole leaned across the table and grasped my hand with his. Warm and grounding, his touch was. His thumb traced slow, comforting circles over my knuckles, and I found myself holding on to that paltry solace."Don't worry, Bella," he told me in his deep, soothing voice. "Rick will come here. We'll work everything out together." I nodded, suppressing the shock of unexpected tears. Before I could open my mouth to speak, something tiny and unyielding thwacked Cole directly between the shoulder blades. A tennis ball came flying off his back and slid across the floor in a listless arc."Bad guy!" a little, angry voice cried

  • Twice Fated   Chapter 97: Confession of the Heart

Cole visited Bella at her city residence that afternoon, his heart aching with a combination of hope and trepidation. He had come to visit his son—Edsel, Bella's eldest. Gian, her second son, stayed by the window, watching the car come in, reminiscing about his own father, Rick. At heart, Gian wished Rick would come visit them too. But it wasn't Rick; it was Cole. When Bella opened the door, Cole told her, "I'm sorry I asked Lilet where you live. I'm just really worried about you and the kids."Bella nodded slightly and said, "Okay, come in." Cole walked by her, his gaze sweeping the living room as he walked in, a soft melancholy in her eyes. She called out softly, "Hey, Edsel, come here. I want you to meet somebody." Edsel stood at the top of the stairs, folding his arms across his chest in a defensive gesture. His gaze landed on Cole, and Bella said, "This is Cole."Recognition sparkled in Edsel's eyes, and then rage flashed in an instant. "Cole? The shithead?" Edsel snarled. "Edsel
