I busy myself making lunch. Usually I’m a ‘take action’ type, but even I know this whole situation is going to need a more calculated approach. Zander and Lottie sit with Liberty at the table on the other side of the kitchen. To an onlooker, it would seem like I was absorbed in the action of making chicken and bacon salads for the four of us. In reality I’m merely going through the motions, my attention firmly on the conversation happening behind me.

Zander tells Liberty everything we know about her family and her pack, the legends we were told by our father, and the details we know about her pack territory and its division between neighbouring packs. She takes the news well.

“Everything makes so much more sense now. Why Alpha Kendrick kept me locked away, my fathers last words about my destiny, why nobody came looking for me in all those years.” The acceptance in her eyes and her voice tugs at my heart. There isn’t anything we can do to change the past, only move forward. She is
