Chapter 1

Author: Second Blossom
As in our previous lives, my sister and I were held captive, unable to move, by chains inscribed with ancient runes that locked away our spirits.

The Demons' commander burst into raucous laughter, taunting the Celestial Guards, saying, "Be smart and scurry back to your Celestial Realm. I've only come for the Twin Flowers of Chaos this time. If anyone's feeling brave, step right up!"

I surveyed the crowd; they were battered and bloodied, their spirits nearly broken, and nobody dared to make a move. It had been ages since a new God of War had risen in the Celestial Realm, leading to this dire predicament.

The deadlock broke when my husband, Rein, the God of Water, and my sister's husband, Calder, the God of Fire, arrived side by side. The sight of them made me ball my hands into fists, while my sister's gaze turned steely.

The Celestial Guards rallied as if they had found their pillar of strength. An elder stepped forward and said, "You Demons really think you can take these sisters and throw the world into chaos? The Celestial Realm will never stand for it!"

"Exactly! With the gods of water and fire here, you'd better let the sisters go!"

"They're their husbands, for heaven's sake! If you're thinking of taking the sisters, you'll have to get past the gods of water and fire first!"

Their voices boomed across the battlefield. Rein and Calder exchanged a knowing smile, their faces the picture of calm, unafraid of the Demons.

Rein shouted, "You hear that? Let go of my wife!"

Before the Demons' commander could respond, one of his minions came forward, dragging a woman along. "My lord! I caught this one skulking around our side; she might be an enemy spy!"

He yanked her hair with such ferocity that Lila's head snapped back, tears welling in her eyes from the sharp pain. She gazed up at Rein and Calder, her eyes pleading as she said, "Mentor Rein... Mentor Calder... Please, save me."

The two men, previously the picture of serenity, were then visibly shaken, their faces etched with concern.

"Lila! What are you doing here?"

The Demons' commander laughed mockingly, his grip tightening around Lila's throat as he pulled her close.

"Let her go, you fiend!"

"Get your hands off Lila!"

Rein and Calder charged forward like madmen, but the Demons' commander only had to exert a little force on Lila to freeze the two of them in place.

He laughed and said, "You two are quite the spectacle. Is she your beloved? Then, who might these ladies be?"

He gestured scornfully toward us.

Rein's jaw clenched as he shot me a warning look. "Just wait."

Calder was more consoling, reassuring my sister as he said, "Serena, don't worry. I'm here, and they won't dare lay a finger on you. I need to rescue Lila first; her magic is weak."

Serena and I exchanged an icy, knowing laugh, but we remained silent.

We never stood a chance against Lila.

She was the daughter of Rein's dearest friend, who had died after failing the ultimate magic test, entrusting her to Rein with his last breath.

Their bond was more akin to father and daughter than mentor and apprentice.

Yet, somewhere along the line, things had taken a strange turn.

Every night he lay beside me, he would bring her up.

"Lila's growing up; she'll need new clothes.

"She's been fussing about her weight; make her meals light but plentiful. A girl can't afford to be too skinny."

However, it seemed he had forgotten that I was skinnier than Lila.

Lila's skill with the blade was entirely Rein's doing. He had trained her himself and even created a technique just for her.

After Lila got hurt, Calder came to her rescue, and from that moment on, she was showered with affection meant for two.

The Demons' commander found our love entanglement quite intriguing.

With a wave of his hand, he summoned three ice spears, each as long as an arm, and suspended them in the air before me, my sister, and Lila.

He then asked in a hushed tone, "Out of these three, who will you choose to save?"

"Lila!" they exclaimed together.

The icy spears pierced through my sister and me, blood spurted from our wounds, and we nearly passed out from the pain.

Just then, an elder from the Celestial Realm intervened.

"God of Water! God of Fire! Stop this madness! These two are the Twin Flowers of Chaos. Their death will unleash chaos, and the world will be no more! The two of you are their husbands; how can you forsake them? Think of the greater good."

Rein wavered upon hearing that.

However, the Demons' commander was merciless, forcing Lila to cough up blood, which tore at their hearts.

"Release her! I'll do anything you ask if you just let her go!" Rein shouted.

"Really? I've heard about the lotus tattoo on Elaya's waist. Carve it out for me."

A millennium passed before we saw each other again.Kael had become the Dark Lord, and Raven had become the Demon King. Together, they had the Celestial Realm on the run.By then, Serena and I had married Rein and Calder. With our loyalties divided, we seldom met, keeping our old fondness buried deep inside, until now.I reached out, and he leaned in close. "Don't worry, we won't be parted again, and I won't go easy on them."In the dungeon, I found Serena, and to my surprise, Raven was with her.Rein spotted me, scrambled to his feet, and banged on the magical barrier, calling out, "Elaya! Elaya! You've finally come to see me."Calder's voice echoed across the room. "Elaya, please talk some sense into Serena. She's actually considering staying in this demon-infested place and divorcing me. Did she take a blow to the head or something?"I could not help but chuckle at his words. He would rather chalk it up to an injury than face the fact that we just did not love them anymore.

"Mentor Rein, please...don't do this to me..."Her plea was cut short, and she was shoved, her arms the only thing keeping her from falling. Her face was ashen with fear. Her true, hideous nature was then laid bare for all to see."Rein, Calder, do what you want to me. Elaya and Serena will never forgive you! Never!"No sooner had the words left her mouth than she wished she could take them back. She tried to scramble upward, but their boots pinned her hands down."Argh! I was wrong! I shouldn't have said that! Please, I'm begging you, let me up, will you?"I'll be your servant, a slave to you, to Elaya, and to Serena, alright? I just don't want to be banished to the Beast Realm!"Her begging was in vain. Rein pressed down harder, squatting slowly as he said, "Begging me won't help you. The High King of Heaven has spoken. You think you can run from that?""But I'm your student! You promised my father you'd look after me!"Rein looked down, a cryptic smile playing on his lips.

With a gesture, the Mirror of Fate materialized. The scene played out, showing Lila trailing Rein and Calder as they left the Southern Gate, all sneaky-like.The truth hit everyone like a thunderclap, and Lila nearly collapsed, her legs turning to jelly."Mentor Rein, I was just worried about you. That was why I followed you. You've got to believe me."Rein struggled to clear his head, his throat tightening as the image of me, barely clinging to life, flashed through his mind.Calder was in disbelief, his eyes scanning the scene again and again. "It was one thing to follow us, but why on earth would you smear Elaya's and Serena's names?"She lowered her head, her voice a faint murmur as she said, "I...I was scared out of my wits, and to survive, I had to play this card."She clutched at Rein's cloak. "Mentor Rein, I was really scared, but I swear I meant no harm."A fellow mage could not bear to watch and interjected with a sneer, saying, "Meant no harm? What do you consider ha

Kael's face twisted with rage upon seeing the state I was in, his forehead veins popping. "Who's responsible for this? Who did this?! I gave explicit orders to bring you here unharmed."Raven's hand flicked, and three ice spears shot into the thigh of the Demons' commander. "Had we not shown up when we did, what exactly were you planning? You've really got some guts!"The commander and his cronies all fell to their knees, quaking with fear."This... They're from the Celestial Realm! I was seeking revenge for us!"He clearly did not grasp what had set Kael and Raven off, and he proudly presented the lotus he had violently removed, along with the Life Core."Dark Lord, take a look at this! Haven't you always said that Elaya's lotus flower was beyond comparison? The moment I seized her, I took the lotus right off her!"And this Life Core… The Demon King has been struggling to advance, hasn't he? With this Life Core, he's bound to succeed."He was oblivious to the lethal fury in the

However, in the next instant, Lila's resolve faltered, and the dagger slipped from her trembling hand.As they reached for the weapon, Rein spoke up with urgency, "You can have Elaya and Serena, but let Lila go!""Yes, let Lila go!" Calder chimed in.In their desperation to save Lila, they were willing to overlook the grand scheme of things. The elders were beside themselves, trying desperately to intervene. "This is madness! Giving the Demons the Twin Flowers of Chaos is akin to surrendering our very life force into their hands!"And besides, the Twin Flowers were nurtured by the High King of Heaven himself. They're practically his daughters. How can you just abandon them for someone else?"Their pleas fell on deaf ears.Rein faced the Demons' commander squarely. "Give us Lila, and you can take those two. Deal?""Agreed, or we'd all go down together.""Fine, but don't think it's because I fear you. I just need to wrap this up quickly," the Demons' commander said. Before the

Rein's face twisted with conflict at the demand.Lila sobbed and said, "Elaya, why did you lie and say my mentor was gravely wounded? I rushed here because of you. If it weren't for you, Mentor Rein and Mentor Calder wouldn't be suffering like this."Rein stared at me in disbelief. "It was you? You lured Lila here? Do you despise her so much that you'd send her to her death?"The words had hurt me over and over again, but their baseless accusations still cut deep."We've been at war for three days and nights, fighting for our lives. How could we possibly have time to trick her into coming?"My feeble attempt at an explanation was met with Rein's skeptical eyes. It was clear he was not buying it.I let out a weary chuckle, shaking my head. "Yeah, right. Like you'd ever believe me."Calder gave a derisive snort and turned to my sister. "Everyone knows you two are always up to some drama. Serena, are you in on this, too? If you've messed with Lila, I swear I'll leave you.""Do wha
