CHAPTER TWENTY ONE

ETHAN

I walked out of Noir Fork, feeling satisfied with how things turned out. I tried to be generous by offering Sophie a piece of myself, I really tried but she was still that ungrateful bitch as before.

I had no idea how the paparazzi located us, but I wasn’t so shocked. I mean, I was a public figure. I adjusted my cuffs and strolled to my car, but just as I was about to drive out, my phone vibrated.

A smirk tugged at my lips as I answered the call. I expected his call. He was efficient. That’s why I picked him.

“Sir,” My assistant’s voice echoed in the quiet car, “There are photos of you and your ex everywhere.” He reported.

“I know,” I calmly said as I pulled out of the parking lot.

“Do you want me to have it taken down?” He asked. If it was before, in a totally different circumstance, I’d have said yes. He wouldn’t even have asked, he’d take it down on his own, but this had to do with Sophie.

“No,” I said, “Let it be”

“But sir…”

“Do as I said, Elias!” I said,

CHAPTER TWENTY NINEDOMINICThe flames reached high up in the sky. The night was thick with smoke, and the stench of burning chemicals filled my throat.I parked with a hard brake, barely waiting for the engine to turn off before I stepped out. Sophie followed behind me, silent, her footsteps light and unsure. My warehouse was burning.I didn’t wait for anyone to stop me. I shoved past a couple firefighters, stopping just a few feet from the barricade. Heat radiated on my skin, hot and merciless. The building groaned like it was in pain, metal beams twisted and glass bre from the heat.My fists were clenched so hard my knuckles cracked. Someone did this.I stared at the building like I could put out the fire with my eyes alone. The roof had already caved in on one side. Millions of dollars, gone. Files, merchandise and some of my best-kept secrets, all turning to ash.Sophie stood behind me. I didn’t turn to look at her, but I knew she was there. She was quiet, watching me come undone

CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHTSOPHIEThe door slammed and Dominic was gone.I slid to the floor the second I heard it, my back against the door, and my knees pulled to my chest. My chest felt heavy, and my head wasn’t far behind. It ached with the weight of everything I’d said and everything I hadn’t.I was a fool, a liar and a coward.I stared at my phone like it was cursed. That one text had broken me. Judy’s name was still there on the screen like a ticking bomb. I didn’t want to open it, but I already had, and the words were stuck in my head.“Dominic is onto me. Call me now!”My hand shook as I tapped her name and called her.“About damn time!” she hissed into the phone. “Do you know how many times I’ve tried to reach you?”“Judy—”“No! Don’t ‘Judy’ me right now. He’s digging, Sophie. Dominic. That psycho you’re living with! He’s sniffing around my name, my work, everything. You need to shut him down. Now!”“I—I didn’t know he was—”“Of course you didn’t! Because you’re busy getting cozy

CHAPTER TWENTY SEVENDOMINICI felt her warmth before I even opened my eyes. She clung to me like I was her only hope. I almost huffed out a laugh as I stared at her. Ironic. She usually had her guards up high and always challenged me, but now, fast asleep, she held onto me tightly, laying on my chest.Sophie’s beautiful. I couldn’t resist the urge to take a closer look and so I brushed her hair from her face, taking my time to really look at her. But it was short lived as she stirred, and finally fluttered her eyes open. She sat up, yawning and stretching like a baby just taken out from its straddle. Then she glanced down and that was when she saw me.“What are you doing here?!” She frowned, glaring at me like I was an intruder.I tucked my arms under my head, resting on it, “Take your time and look around.” I said seriously, but she could hear the mocking smile beneath my voice. She paused, glanced around, then her eyes widened and her cheeks turned red like the memories of the ni

CHAPTER TWENTY SIXSOPHIE “Sophie?” Jasmine was the first to turn. Her eyes instantly went wide in panic, but she relaxed eventually, and a wide grin spread across her face. “Well, damn. You’re hotter in person, Dominic.”Dominic rolled his eyes and I contained the urge to shrink in embarrassment. I blinked at him, and though my vision was blurry, I didn’t need clarity to recognize the possessive energy that was radiating off him.His jaw was clenched, his brows were drawn low and his eyes, they were locked on me like I was his prey.Jasmine turned to me, laughing like nothing was out of place. “Thank goodness you’re here. We really had a good time!” She threw her arms around my shoulder like we were schoolgirls again.Dominic didn’t respond and his glare didn’t shift from me.“I mean, clubbing isn’t really her thing, but I couldn’t resist throwing a belated bachelorette party for her.” She added with a wink, “She really needed this.”My heart pounded so loud I could barely hear her

CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE SOPHIE In my entire life, I had never had a panic attack until now. When Dominic barged into my room, my initial thought was that he came to annoy me and talk down on me as usual. I never expected him to bring that up. He’d asked about Mira! How did he even get to know about her? I huffed loudly. Then again…who was I kidding? It was a miracle he didn’t find out sooner. Dominic was a powerful man and he had his ways. I should have told him the truth. I really should have because we were in this together, but like I said earlier, I panicked! Completely! My chest tightened. I couldn’t catch my breath. My hands wouldn’t stop shaking. I began pacing restlessly. My doubts were high that Dominic would stop here. I should just tell him the truth already. I turned to the door, ready to walk out of the room when my phone rang. It wasn’t a familiar number. I ignored it, but it rang again. With a defeated sigh, I answered the call. “Hel—“ “Hey, girl!” A lou

CHAPTER TWENTY FOURDOMINIC“…Unfortunately, I couldn’t send it via email when you asked for it, but here it is now,” My assistant stood before me, with a file in his outstretched hands. This was the first time he’d ever delayed, so naturally, it made my curiosity pique. His behavior was unusual and he seemed uneasy like whatever he found out didn’t sit right with him.“Leave it on the table,” I ordered and he did. He turned around to leave, but I stopped him, “What did you find out?”“Uhm,” He cleared his throat, “The lady, Judy Wellington, her record is clean. There’s nothing incriminating about her.”“But?” I leaned back, carefully watching him, because I knew that he couldn’t just leave me hanging.“There’s something weird. It seems like a part of her life was erased.” He said.“What do you mean?”He reached for the file, flipped it open and turned it so I could have a look. “It says here that she worked as a sales rep from 2016 to 2018. All her work and personal life is documente
