~Hannah~
Nathan turns and props himself up and I happen to lean up at the same time. We are facing each other. The closeness makes us pause, aware of the very tiny distance between us, between our lips. Our eyes meet and lock and I instantly realize we have been in this exact position before.
I suck my belly in and hold my breath afraid he will hear how ridiculously fast my heart is racing.
“Ma'am Hannah!”
I hear a loud shrill, impulsively kick Nathan off and jump to my feet. He groans softly. From the corner of my eyes, I see a smirk curl up in his face and I cuss myself inside.
Clara, my favorite maid in the house, is darting towards us in the most disheveled manner. Seeing her like that makes my stomach knots and I feel Nina’s soft whimper. Clara is prim and proper and knows the house rules. Only something urgent and serious will have her abandon her class and manners like this.
“Ma'am Hannah! Where have you been! I have been looking all over for you!”
I tighten my face. “What is the problem, Clara? You know you can be scolded for this.” Clara knows Cathylene Durk hates when one is running and being ‘classless’.
“Someone from the Pack hospital is here…it's…its…Olivia…” She is breathing heavily pointing at the same path she came through.
The knot in my stomach twisted further. A sudden flicker of fear washes over me for a split second.
“It’s okay. Can you calm down and speak?” Nathan comes to my rescue.
“Olivia has collapsed!”
My heart sinks. “Olivia…my baby…” My lips quiver. Forgetting everything including my footwears, I run out of the training center. I am running frantically towards the gate when a car pulls up in my front.
“Get in!” Nathan calls out from behind the steering wheel.
“It's okay I can find my way.” Liam can't see us together.
“You are not thinking straight right now. I will drop you off in the hospital.”
I look around. I can see things but I don't know what it is I'm seeing. I get into the car and he drives off. “Olivia please…mama is coming…Olivia please…save my daughter goddess…save my daughter whoever is listening right now…”
I did not know I could still pray to the goddess until this moment. The thought of my precious daughter lying in a hospital bed… I am so shaken I face the window and sob heavily. How will I live? Olivia is my whole world. She is the reason I can tolerate how badly Liam treats me. She is the reason I am still alive. I cannot lose her. I will die. I will die.
Nathan squeezes tissues in my palms and mumbles some words I didn't make out.
As soon as we reach the hospital I jump down.
“Hey, it's gonna be alright, okay? I will park the car and come meet you. Olivia will be alright.” His words are like incoherent letters to my ears as I faintly nod my head and my weak legs dart into the hospital.“Please where is my daughter? She was brought here?” I ask the receptionist.
“What's your daughter's name?”
“Oli…” Tears clog my throat at this point. I cannot begin to explain the way my chest is tight. I am scared. I have never been this scared. “Her name is Olivia Durk.” I manage to say.
My eyes wanders off as she checks her system.
“Olivia Durk, 3 years old, brought in from preschool–”
“Yes…yes…she's my daughter. Where's my daughter?”
“Olivia's mum?” A middle aged man with white chin beards comes up and asks.
I nod fast, swiping the tears in my eyes to see clearly. “Yes yes…where's my daughter?”
“Follow me please.”
As I follow him, the strong hospital scent overpowers me and tears start to cloud my eyes all over again. “How's Olivia? Can I see her now?”
“I’m sorry to say this but Olivia is in a critical condition and needs blood immediately. You must be aware her blood is rare. We are out of it at the moment. A family needs to donate –”
“I will do it. I will donate blood for my daughter. Where should I go? How do I do it?”
He orders a nurse to take me to a room I didn't care to study. All I can think of is give them my whole blood and save my baby.
“Unfortunately your blood does not match. You cannot donate blood to Olivia.”
I feel my head spin when the doctor says this. “What do you mean I cannot donate blood to my daughter?”
“After several tests, I'm sorry but your blood is the common blood and don't match. However, your husband can test. I'm sure he will be a perfect match.”
“I'm right here. Let's run the tests right away!” Liam’s voice echoes in the hallway as he rushes over. Liam may hate me but he never jokes with his daughter. I release a sigh as he follows the doctor to run tests.
The doctor comes out minutes later.
“How’s it going doctor? Can I see my daughter now?”
“I regret to say but unfortunately your husband's blood does not match either.” The doctor announce.
“What are you talking about…”
He looks at me and my body chills. My head whirrs like a fan blade filled with dust. I feel my body shaking. Everything is crashing down on me. Like a dark tunnel, my past is closing in on, sniffing life out of me.
“Doctor…can you please explain…what will happen to my daughter…what will happen to my baby…” Hot tears slip down my face.
“I’m afraid to say but if she don't receive blood right now, she will die.”
The hospital machines begin to beep loudly. The nurses start to scamper. I run after the doctor and beg him to save my daughter's life. But he's looking at me with nothing but sadness and disappointment in his eyes.
Look at my past haunting me.
~Nathan~I have been trying to sight Hannah but she's so damn busy in the cooking area. Helping with cooking and arranging things with some other ladies. I wonder if Cathylene Durk put her up to it or she volunteered. Either way, I don't like how she's been so busy without catching a breath for herself. “You are missing her?” My beast taunts. “Shut up.” “Oh really? You sure you don't need me keeping you busy?” Sure I need some distractions but definitely not from my beast. He'll only make me miss Hannah the more. Full moon festival is finally here. The first since my return. Every member of the Pack is gathered in the center of the town–sort of an open field surrounded with tents. The night is lively. The moon is gradually filling the sky with its roundness. I admit, I may not like this pack but the full moon festival is something I enjoy and always look forward to here. Some men are selected to hunt in their wolves form. They are to enter the nearby woods and return an hour or
~Hannah~“Liam Durk! Get yourself out here!” Cathylene roars marching into the living room. As expected, she’s very furious. Her phones are ringing non-stop. Harinth is beside her, suggesting things and telling her to calm down. Which I doubt she will be doing any time soon. Jaxon Blackwood’s prospect of becoming the next Alpha has tremendously jumped, leading Liam by a big margin whilst Liam's has drastically reduced. And not just that. Liam faces the threat of being removed as a candidate. This will make Jaxon the ultimate winner. “Where's that jerk?” She yells and spins at the sound of Nathan's entrance. “Are you happy your best friend has the chance to win my son?” She slams at Nathan. “I sent him on an errand,” Harinth chimes in calmly. Cathylene hiss. I stare at Nathan, the scene at the yard replaying in my head. Does he know Olivia is his daughter? He can't know. He should never know. Liam looks downcasted.“I will take care of this. Don't fret.” Cathylene assures him befor
~Hannah~“Lastly, before I sign this, one more thing. Apologize to her,” Mario says to Liam. Liam gives a mock laugh. “What?”Today is the final meeting for the paperwork of the deal before the actual construction work will begin and Liam was allowed to be present. Nathan is waiting in the hotel lobby. “Listen to me, Mr Mario. I'm grateful to work with your company but hey, listen, this is family business and you should know when to not cross the line,” Liam grits. “Then, I'm afraid we have no deal.” Mario shrugs. It's as if he's intentionally torturing Liam which a part of me is enjoying. But I also know how bad it can be. Liam is overly possessive, jealous and with a big pride. “Em, Mister Mario, aren't you going a bit too far?” Cathylene steps forward. Mario glances around feigning confusion. “Am I?” he laughs. “Chairlady Durk. We all have our conditions in business. You are a business woman and you know this.”“I do, but this is getting more personal and I'm afraid your fathe
~Hannah~“Me? Spearhead a project?” I ask in shock. “What were you both discussing?” Liam glares at me. “This is not the time for this, Liam,” Cathylene tells him off. “Mom, don't tell me you will allow her to negotiate with that jerk?” “Why don't you look at it this way…she shows her face and we get our contract.”Liam snarls. “Why would he want someone like her to spearhead a huge project? That fool just wants to show authority!”“Yes, because he knows we need him and you gave him the chance to behave that way when you refuse to put yourself in order.” Cathylene scowls. “And if he tries to do something funny? He was flirting with Hannah!”“So? We should lose out on this project to Blackwood?” Cathylene slams, enraged. Lose out to Backwood? There are things that are constant and everyone knows. One of them is how much Cathylene hates the Blackwood family. She hates them so much because she thinks they always copy the Durk in everything. The two families are into construction an
~Nathan~“Throw herself at men like a slụ́t?”I almost lost it at dinner.. The only thing that stopped me from smashing that lunatic’s head on the dinning table was Hannah's warning to not get involved. Fuvk. Liam Durk is a lunatic. Has always been. Everyday it irks me that he ended up with someone as beautiful and perfect like Hannah. “Boss, would you mind if I drop you off in front of the company or the parking basement?” My driver and secretary, Red, inquires. “Wherever is good with you.” I shrug. He ends up pulling into the parking lot in the basement. Hands me a sachet. I raise my eyebrows in question. “Your pills, boss. Lady Cathylene says I should make sure you take them.”Stupid pills. I collect the pills and he keeps looking at me through the rearview to make sure I swallow them which I pretend to do but spit out on my way to the elevators. “Welcome back boss.”“Good to have you back, sir.”“Morning boss.”Greetings from every angle echo as I make it to my office. It's
~Hannah~He grips my dress and the fragile linen material rips apart. I wince as he grasp my wrist. “You are my wife and you belong to me. Does that jerk fuvk better than me? Does he have more influence than me? Answer me!”My body shakes as I wrap my hands around me in defiance. Liam is shocked. I have never defiled him. I have never denied him access to my body.He stops, darkness clouding his eyes. “A woman cheats on her husband and has been deceiving him with another man's daughter…what do you think you and Olivia will be reduced to, once another ear hears of this…”My body recoil. The thing I fear the most…My dignity tarnishing…Olivia facing backlash in the future…Suddenly my claws shoot out and my eyes glow golden. In one swift action, my claws dig into his chest. “Nina! Stay calm!” I beg Nina unable to control myself.Cathylene Durk makes everyone in the house take scent blockers and strength restrictor pills. She says it's too ‘unclassy’, to have your scent intruding people'
