The days that followed felt like a slow, suffocating descent. Each moment dragged by, thick with tension, as if the world was holding its breath, waiting for something monumental to happen. The revelation about my mother’s involvement in this twisted game still gnawed at my insides, but now, there was no time to dwell on it. Dominic and I were about to step into the lion’s den, and we needed to be prepared for whatever Olivia was going to throw our way.

I had spent the past few days locked away in our penthouse, going through every piece of evidence that Liam had given us, trying to connect the dots. The more I dug, the more I realized how deep this went. My mother had been planning this for years. Not only had she set me up for a marriage I never wanted, but she had been manipulating my father, Victor Caldwell, and everyone around her to secure her power. The worst part? She had been using me as her pawn in a game that I wasn’t even aware I was playing.

Dominic had been equally consumed by the information, though he kept his distance, buried in his own work, perhaps trying to distract himself from the chaos swirling around us. I could see the strain in his eyes, the tension in his shoulders every time he glanced at me, as if he were waiting for me to crack. But he wasn’t the only one on edge.

It was an early afternoon when I found myself standing in front of the mirror, adjusting the dress I had chosen for tonight’s event. A gala. Another one of Olivia’s grand spectacles to remind us all of her control over everything. This time, however, it wasn’t just a party—it was the calm before the storm. The last thing she expected was for us to make our move there. But Dominic had insisted. He wanted to confront Olivia face-to-face, to show her that we weren’t afraid.

I hated the idea. A part of me wanted to run, to protect myself from the venom I knew she was capable of. But another part of me was ready—ready to take the fight to her. Ready to face whatever twisted plan she had set into motion.

“You look stunning.”

I turned to see Dominic standing in the doorway, his expression unreadable as his eyes swept over me. My breath caught in my throat, despite myself. He was wearing a black tuxedo, the sharp lines of the suit making him look even more dangerous than usual. The air between us crackled with unspoken words, as it always did when we were in the same room.

“Are you sure about this?” I asked, my voice quieter than I intended. My hands were still trembling as I adjusted the hem of my dress, unable to meet his gaze for too long. “This isn’t the time to play games, Dominic. I can feel it in my bones—she’s expecting us to show up, but she’ll have a plan. She always has a plan.”

He stepped closer, his gaze softening for a fraction of a second before it hardened again. “I’m not playing games, Elena. We’re doing this my way. I’m not going to let her control us any longer.”

I wanted to argue, to tell him that it wasn’t that simple, that we weren’t ready to confront her. But the words stuck in my throat. I had spent too much time running, avoiding this confrontation, and now… now it was time. If I wanted to take back control of my life, if I wanted to stop this madness, then I had to face the truth, no matter how painful it was.

“I’m not running anymore,” I said quietly, lifting my chin to meet his eyes. “Let’s do this.”

Dominic’s lips twitched in a small, almost imperceptible smile. “That’s the spirit.”

We left the penthouse together, the air between us charged with a mix of tension and something else. It was like we were both playing a part, pretending to be something we weren’t. But as we walked into the elevator, heading down to the waiting cars, I felt the weight of the moment sink in. There was no turning back. Tonight would change everything.

The gala was being held at one of the most exclusive venues in the city—an extravagant ballroom with sweeping views of the skyline. The kind of event that screamed power, wealth, and control. And Olivia was at the center of it all. She would be there, surrounded by the city’s most influential figures, smiling with her cold, calculating eyes as she wielded her power like a weapon.

As we arrived, the sounds of laughter, clinking glasses, and soft classical music greeted us. The ballroom was bathed in soft gold light, the chandeliers casting a warm glow over the guests. But despite the luxurious atmosphere, there was an unmistakable chill in the air. People moved with purpose, exchanging smiles and words laced with hidden agendas. I could feel the weight of it all—the eyes on us, the whispers, the tension.

Olivia was already at the front of the room, standing beside Victor Caldwell. Their eyes met mine the moment I entered, and I could feel the sting of her gaze, the coldness behind her smile. It was like a warning—she was watching, waiting. And I wasn’t about to back down.

Dominic’s hand on my back was firm, possessive, guiding me through the crowd as we made our way toward her. The tension in the room seemed to escalate with every step we took. I could feel the eyes of the other guests following us, watching the drama unfold, and I hated it. But there was no turning back now.

“Well, well, well,” Olivia’s voice was smooth, almost mocking as we approached. “Elena. Dominic. I see you’ve decided to grace us with your presence.” She barely spared Dominic a glance, her eyes focused solely on me. “It’s funny, really. I never thought I’d see the day when you’d actually show up at one of my events.”

I stood tall, forcing myself to meet her gaze, though the anger that bubbled inside me was hard to contain. “You’re right about one thing. I never thought I’d be here either. But here I am.”

Olivia’s smile widened, but there was no warmth behind it. “Yes, here you are. It seems you’ve come to play, but I’m afraid you’re too late. The game has already been decided.”

I felt the familiar stirrings of doubt creep into my mind. The words she spoke were dangerous, filled with hidden meanings that I didn’t fully understand yet. But I wouldn’t let her see that. I couldn’t afford to.

“You’ve been manipulating us for far too long,” Dominic’s voice was low, but I could hear the menace in it. “It ends tonight, Olivia. The lies, the games—they stop now.”

Her eyes flickered for a brief moment, but she quickly regained her composure. “Oh, Dominic. You still don’t understand, do you? This is more than just you or me. It’s about power, about control. And you—you’ve always been a pawn in my game. Don’t you see? You and Elena—you’re just pieces on a chessboard, nothing more.”

The words stung, but I refused to let her see how much they affected me. She wasn’t going to win. Not this time.

“I’m not your pawn anymore, Olivia,” I said, my voice steady, unwavering. “Neither of us are.”

Dominic’s hand tightened on my back, his presence like a shield at my side. I felt a sense of strength in that moment, knowing that no matter what happened next, we weren’t alone.

Olivia’s eyes flickered with something—fear, perhaps. But it was quickly replaced with a cold smile. “We’ll see about that, won’t we?”

The words hung in the air like a challenge, and I knew then that this was just the beginning. Olivia wouldn’t back down, and neither would we.

The door creaked open under Dominic’s firm push, the sound slicing through the heavy silence of the night. I clutched his hand tighter, my heart hammering so violently it shook my ribs. Dust motes danced in the pale shaft of moonlight that spilled into the room, revealing faded furniture and broken dreams. The safehouse smelled of abandonment—of old wood, forgotten memories, and the faint metallic tinge of secrets long buried.Dominic swept the room with sharp, calculating eyes. He moved with precision, scanning every detail. Meanwhile, every step I took felt like trudging through quicksand, fear and anticipation weighing me down.“There,” Dominic said, nodding toward the corner of the living room.A battered cabinet, its surface scarred with deep gouges, stood half-concealed beneath a threadbare sheet. He yanked it open, revealing a heavy safe built into the floor.“Of course,” he muttered grimly. “Victor wouldn’t trust a lockbox.”Dominic knelt beside the safe, pulling a small devic

The tension in the air between Dominic and Liam was palpable, charged with years of betrayal and resentment. I struggled to breathe as I observed the two brothers facing each other, their expressions contorted in a shared tempest of pain, anger, and regret."You believe you’re superior to me," Liam hissed, advancing, his voice escalating with a bitterness that cut through the atmosphere. "You always have. The golden child. The flawless heir. The one everyone relied on to mend everything."Dominic remained unyielding. His fists clenched at his sides, his jaw set in a manner that indicated he was suppressing a rage that could demolish this entire structure if unleashed."I never aimed to be superior to you," Dominic replied in a deep, guttural tone. "I merely wanted us to endure this cursed family together. But you made your decision, Liam. You traded your soul for a place at a table constructed on blood and deceit."Liam chuckled — a brief, harsh sound. "And you didn’t? Do you think yo

The silence in the safe house was deafening, each second stretching longer than the last. My breath came in shallow bursts, my hands trembling as I tried to steady myself against the weight of everything we had just learned.Dominic stood by the table, his hand gripping the edge so tightly his knuckles turned white. His jaw was clenched, and I could see the muscles in his neck tense, the fury building inside him like a storm waiting to break.“They’ve known everything,” I whispered, more to myself than to him. The implications of the phone call hit me hard, like a punch to the gut. Someone was watching us. Someone knew exactly where we were, what we were doing, and they weren’t afraid to make their move.Dominic glanced over at me, his eyes dark with a mix of anger and something more—something I didn’t have the strength to name. “They’ve been playing us from the start,” he muttered, shaking his head. “We’ve been two steps behind, and they’ve had us right where they wanted us all along

The smoke was thick, a suffocating cloud of confusion and chaos. It blurred the lines between reality and nightmare. I could hear Dominic shouting over the sirens, his voice a fierce command cutting through the haze. But all I could focus on was the sound of my own pulse, beating wildly in my ears.Run.The word echoed in my head like a mantra I couldn’t escape. But where would I go? To whom could I turn? The life I had known, the family I had trusted, was crumbling at my feet.Dominic’s hand was gripping mine so tightly that I could feel the strength of his determination in every movement. He didn’t let go, even when the smoke stung my eyes, even when the world felt like it was spinning off its axis.“We need to move,” he said, his voice hard with urgency. “Now.”I nodded, though my mind was still struggling to catch up. Every instinct told me to run—to escape—but I couldn’t bring myself to leave Dominic. Not when the people who had been pulling the strings for so long were finally m

I used to think the worst betrayal came from lies. But now I know—the real poison is silence.Because silence allows monsters to hide behind polished names and designer suits. It allows generational power to rot from the inside out while the rest of us smile, nod, and pretend we don’t feel the floor cracking beneath our feet. The Dominion League wasn’t just a story whispered in dark corners. It was real. And it had marked me.“They’ll come after your credibility first,” Dominic said, pacing in front of the penthouse windows like a caged beast. “You’re already a target. If you keep digging, they’ll come for your job, your name, your life.”“And if I don’t keep digging?” I asked, arms crossed. “They still come. So what difference does it make?”He stopped pacing and looked at me, his expression unreadable. “It makes all the difference, Elena. Because if we go after them—we go to war.”I met his eyes without blinking. “Then let’s not go alone.”By morning, every major news outlet had pic

I heard it before I saw it.The soft, unending beep from the secure line that Dominic kept hidden behind his office bar. A red light blinked ominously on the phone, as if it had been biding its time to disrupt the rare tranquility between us.Dominic’s hand halted mid-motion, his fingers delicately tracing my spine. “Did you hear that?”I nodded, already rising from the couch. The city lights seeped through the floor-to-ceiling windows behind us, casting elongated shadows across the room. Something about that blinking red light twisted my stomach.Dominic crossed the room ahead of me, seizing the phone, his jaw tightening as he pressed play.A mechanical voice resonated throughout the room.“They know. And they’re coming for her next.”Static followed. Then came silence. My heart skipped a beat.Dominic turned to face me, his eyes sharper than I had ever seen. “Who the hell has access to this line?”“No one but your inner circle,” I whispered, a sense of dread unfurling in my chest.“
