The 'a' Word

“Are you mad at me?” I asked.

“What do you mean?” Lee questioned.

“I mean that you’ve been kinda weird to me since we brought Joy home from the hospital.”

He sighed as he attempted to put Julian in his onesie. He still hadn’t mastered baby clothes. He said they were much too tiny and hard to handle.

“You let the people at the hospital call you Mrs. Wrenford. You didn’t correct them and just went along with it.” Lee whispered.

“And that bothered you?”

“Yes, because if you were so comfortable being called Mrs. Wrenford, that means you see yourself being his wife. Which means…you don’t see yourself-”

“Being Mrs. Windsor.” I finished for him. “Lee, babe, that was…I was in such a frenzy at the hospital, I wasn’t really thinking. I mean Joy was sick.”

“I know, Scar. I’m aware that I’m being ridiculously sensitive about this, it’s just…not knowing who you want to marry is absolute torture. I see you with Julian and I just want you to be my wife. I love you.”
