Christmas

I think pregnancy made me stupid.

That had to be the reason that we were hosting Christmas at our house with all of our parents. Joel was joining us again, since he didn’t have anyone to spend it with. I think he and my dad were becoming pretty close and that made me very happy. His sobriety journey seemed to be going great.

“Seriously, all of your parents in the same place again?” EJ questioned. “Wasn't there a fist fight last time?”

“Yes, but that was when my dad was drinking. This is totally different.” I assured him. “And hopefully there will be no fighting and competing over me.”

“You don’t really believe that there won’t be, do you?” EJ raised his eyebrows.

“Be quiet and hand me that ornament,” I laughed. “I can’t believe I waited so long to decorate.”

“Why aren’t Lee and Grayson helping?”

“Because this is a surprise for them. I want them to have a Christmas that’s not decorated by professionals. They’ll get a more authentic Christmas you know?”
