Evangeline

Alexander’s hands are still, yet shaky. Quiet, yet loud. Soft, yet firm as they hold the sonogram picture.

He hasn’t said a word since the doctor handed it to him. All he’s done is stare wide-eyed while stroking the edges with his thumbs.

That tells me everything I need to know.

And I cannot bring myself to stop staring at this man.

His mouth parts like he’s about to speak. He tries. Nothing. They close back up and his jaw tenses. He lifts his gaze to mine, just a quick glance, but the softness in his eyes melts me completely.

He heaves out a breath.

I do same.

Words pass between us in the silence—we affirm that we still hear the echo of our baby’s heartbeat in our minds.

It is a beautiful moment, surreal, hearing my baby’s steady, ticking pulse for the first time.

When I heard it, my insides split open with awe and overwhelming love; a love that overshadowed my fear for a moment.

In that moment, I knew I would do this a million times over. With or without Xander, I will

  • Two Days Before The Wedding   Chapter 30: Read To Filth

AlexanderLunch would’ve been great if I wasn’t under Evangeline’s friend’s scrutiny.Alessia Sanchez. The girl never shuts up. And she’s not kind with her words.Direct. Brutal. Uncaring.“Let me get your story straight,” she leans forward, teeth bared in that mocking smile. “You cheated on your fiance two days before your wedding, got my friend pregnant, and now you want to pursue a real relationship with her? Why? Because of the baby?”“No,” I respond, “because I love her.”Alessia snorts. “So the baby is not important?”I chuckle, incredulous. “Of course the baby is important.”“So it’s about the baby then.” Her eyes bounce from me to Evangeline and back.My fingers curl into my palms, balling into fists against my thighs. Evangeline slides her hand into mine and locks our fingers, stroking the back of my palm with her thumb.I tilt my head, bringing my eyes to hers. She shakes her head, mouthing, “she’s baiting you. Don’t let her.”I heave out a breath and lean back.Evangeline t

  • Two Days Before The Wedding   Chapter 28: Not My intention

EvangelineSlow.Deep.Consuming.His lips flames with so much desiree against mine. His breath burns my skin, drawing me into his abyss. His tongue strokes mine. I brace my palms over his shoulders and surrender to the sensational feeling. My throat rumbles with sounds foreign even to my own ear. Alexander pulls back, his eyes dancing with mine. The stormy-grey orbs turn a darker shade as they rake my features. He cups my face, his fingers brushing my skin ghostly while he gazes at me with adoration.“Why are you stopping?” I breathe. His unsteady breath mirrors mine. “Angel… you have to be sure…”I am.I’m not uncertain.I want him. I need him. Not just for the comfort of flesh against flesh—although that would be nice—but there is something underneath my skin that craves for him.Instead of responding with words, I brush my lips over his. Soft. Savoring. His mouth parts.I fuse our lips and let my certainty burn through the kiss. My breath stutters. My spine arches into him. I feel

  • Two Days Before The Wedding   Chapter 27: First Official Date

EvangelineAlexander said to dress casual. The moment the word left his mouth, it set me into a full-blown wardrobe crisis. But after standing in front of the mirror for the fifth time, I finally found something passable. In the following minutes, I’m fully dressed in light-washed jeans that sit a little below my bump and a snug white top that stops at my diaphragm. And a pair of white sneakers. My hair is up in a loose bun, with two strands framing my face. I swipe on lip balm, curl my lashes, add a little highlight to my cheekbones. That’s it. Simple. Casual. And… beautiful.A knock on my door pulls me out of my reflection. My heart skips. Once… twice… I glance at my reflection one more time and a shy smile curls my lips.I open the door without hesitation. Stormy-grey eyes catch on mine. Alexander is dressed in dark jeans and a white T-shirt, his face clean shaven. It’s not everyday I get to see this beautiful view.My mouth opens. He beats me to it. “Wow!”I smile. “Do I look ca

  • Two Days Before The Wedding   Chapter 26: Date Plans

EvangelineThere’s something about Alexander’s father. Antonio Creed. On the outside, he looks cold and calculating. His narrowed eyes are too sharp as they rake my frame as though dissecting my entire existence by my physical appearance. His eyes stop at my stomach for a second, two. He scoffs, averting his gaze to his son.“Your wife,” he repeats, voice crisp. “That is a generous term.”Xander stiffens beside me, his voice warning. “Dad.”“What?” his father lifts a brow. “Am I not allowed to express how I feel about you playing house with the woman who ruined your life?”Xander kisses his teeth, frustrated. “My life is not ruined.”“Is that what you believe?”“His life is not ruined.” I cut in, my voice biting. “This scandal has long passed. Everyone has moved on with their lives. And it’s not our fault that you and your family are refusing to do so, sir.”Alexander clears throat, almost choking on a laugh. His father’s gaze hardens on me. “How charming.”I give him an innocent smil

  • Two Days Before The Wedding   Chapter 25: The Party II

Evangeline“Because… I think I’ve fallen in love with you, Evangeline.”The words hit me like a slap. I freeze, every muscle in my body tightening, every breath caught somewhere between my lungs and my throat.No. No, he didn’t just say that.My ears must be playing tricks on me. My brain must be short-circuiting. I must really be desperate to hear kind words from Alexander that my mind is starting to twist his words. He’s lying. My heart stutters painfully in my chest. I blink once, twice, dragging my eyes over his face.I expect to see a twitch, something that tells me this is Alexander’s way of trying to get a rise out of me so he can put me down. As usual. There’s a twitch, but it’s not a mocking smile or a laugh, or a smirk. His eyes glint with genuineness. He’s looking at me like I’ve torn him open and refusing to look inside. And he’s begging me to look inside. My lips part, but I can’t even find my words. There’s nothing to say. There’s no air in this room to breathe. It’s j
