Celene

I jolt awake, to the sound of buzzing in my ears. Without thinking I fly out of the bed, which seemed too soft to be mine, Instead of the hardwood I am used to I fall head first into soft—too soft— rug, the softest and comfiest I have ever felt. If I wasn't so confused I might have taken a few more minutes to reveal its softness.

The buzzing continued, as a blistering headache held me down in a chokehold, I squinted my eyes in the hope of catching a glimpse of my location.

“Where am I ?” I whispered sharply to no one in particular.

My jaw dropped as the room slowly came into focus.

Persian curtains. Soft cloudy rugs thick enough to act as a bed. Dark green-colored walls were accentuated in what looked to be gold.

Shit It is gold.

I jumped back from the wall as though I had touched fire, my headache long forgotten as my eyes widened to take in the breathtaking view that was the room.

Was this even a room, the space seemed to have no end as it expanded on both sides

68 Mondrian The sound of my beating heart grew louder, while I watched her sleep. My eyes ran through every inch of her soaking in every image I could quickly capture from her swollen eyes from her crying to her swollen lips I had taken. My heart squeezed in a painful lurch at the thought that she believed she was cursed and the reason for every bad thing to ever happen in her pack, my fist clenched holding myself back from warping to the purple pack and destroying everything. Celene wouldn't like that. The pain slightly lessened as I realized she was here now. With me. I would make sure she never felt that way ever again. As I rose from the cushioned chair, where I watched Her pale skin shine brightly on top of my dark velvet sheets, She seemed to fit the aesthetic of my room as though she belonged. Of course, she did. She was my mate after all. With a gentle flick of the duvet, she was covered fully. Celene turned as if disturbed before sinking into the soft mattress. Walking

69 Celene For the second time, I woke up with a jolt, this time around I quickly calmed down knowing I was safe. A warmth of rush gushed in me at the thought of Mondrian taking care of me. Picking up the cover spread I sniff hoping to catch a whiff of Mondrian. I get my wish, the heady scent of freshly made coffee envelopes me in a soft hug, and my wolf purred at the thought. I gasped as images of Mondrian and I flooded my mind, each in different positions. I had never had sex, and despite having dated Christoff nothing ever happened between us, I wanted to wait and Christof had agreed. I should have known he was up to no-go when he did. I push the thought of him to the back of my mind, Mondrian image pops up, and the thought of his tear-soaked chest, the warmth I felt in his hand the the electrifying feel of his touch. Since finding out he was my mate, the feeling of arousal I usually felt around him had doubled. With the sudden opening of the door, I chuckled the cover cloth

70 Celene Just as I was about to stumble under the wave of dizziness, a hand shot out, firm, steadying me before I could fall flat on my face in front of Pecan's mocking eyes. “Whoa, Careful there,” the light, teasing voice said. I blinked, turning to see a girl who looked to be around my age, her bright green eyes framed by a halo of wild fiery red hair tied into a messy bun. The girl holding me up had an easy grin, one that somehow managed to calm me. "Are you all right?" she asked, her gaze flicking to Pecan briefly before looking back at me. I—uh, yes. I’m fine,” I stammered, though my legs were still shaky. She gave a short nod but didn't release me her grip remained steady, and I couldn’t help but lean into her support slightly. Her presence felt so natural and familiar that it threw me off, before I could ask about it, Pecan’s icy voice cut through the moment. "I don’t recall inviting you into this conversation, Zara." She crossed her arms, her lips curling into a snee

71 Mondrian The sound of hurried footsteps resounded around the empty hallway, I hurried out of the office with Thoughts of Celene, I had been so focused on work, that I had forgotten to check up on her. I didn't know if she had eaten or would be too scared to leave my room. My heart ached at the thought of her locking herself in the room, unwilling to reach out. “How could I have been so stupid.” I rasped, breaking into a jog, “Nice job setting the blocking magic Mondrian. We could have been out of here in like. What? a minute? But no you had to go and be responsible.” I admit setting the block magic to prevent rowdy pack members from infiltrating the office has been a good idea, but at this moment I found myself hating Ale for thinking about it and myself for accepting the bloody idea. Ignoring the thud of the wooden door, dividing the dining area from the eastern hall, which leads to my office, free of the warding magic I prep myself to warp into the room. “About damn time.”

72 Mondrian The packed house was quiet, the kind of stillness that settled only in the deepest hours of the night. And yet I laid awake unable to sleep, I sat on a makeshift study, a glass of garney whiskey in hand, going over reports from the border patrols I couldn't attend to while I was away. Everything seemed peaceful, but I couldn’t shake the sense of unrest that lingered on my mind keeping me awake since I had ordered the maids to clean up a room for Celene as per her orders earlier. Her cold demeanor, the way she shrank back into herself when I tried to speak with her, had hurt more than I wanted to let know. She was doing so well, we had come so far I thought it was only a matter of time before she accepted me. But something had changed this evening. Something has spooked her. And I didn't know how to get her back to herself. I drained the glass and leaned back in my chair, running a hand through my hair. She was my mate, and the bond between us was undeniable. I wanted

73AuthorCelene woke up to the feeling of warmth radiating from the body beside her. For a moment, she couldn’t move. The steady rise and fall of Mondrian’s chest, his arm draped casually over her waist, and the faint scent of coffee and earth that clung to him overwhelmed her senses. She blinked, trying to clear the haze of sleep, only to find his piercing gray eyes watching her.“You’re awake,” he said, his voice low and rough from sleep. The sound sent a shiver down her spine.“I… I am,” she managed, her cheeks heating under his gaze. His proximity was intoxicating, and she could feel the mate bond pulling at me, urging me closer. “You seem to be in a good mood,” he murmured, a playful smile tugging at his lips at her look of confusion “With you holding on me for dear life you'd think you never want to let me go. Should I think the same kitten?”“I am sorry!” Celene sputtered, attempting to sit up, but his arm tightened around Celene, keeping her in place.“it is all right. I d

74Mondrian The marketplace was the same as usual charged with an energy that made me smile. It bustled with vendors calling out their wares, children laughing, and the scent of spices and baked goods weaved through the air. As we stepped into the chaos that felt like home, I glanced at Celene. Her wide eyes darted between stalls, taking in the vibrant displays of fabrics, jewelry, and food. She looked both mesmerized and slightly overwhelmed. She must not have seen a market so big, with her trying to hide her wolf all these while and being shunned from gatherings. I placed a hand on her lower back, to protect her while guiding her gently. “Take your time, Celene. Just relax. I'm here if you need anything.”She glanced up at me her eyes wide with fear and her lips parting as if to give me a response, but instead, she gave a small nod. Slowly, her shoulders relaxed, and she began to move through the stalls with more ease. I stayed close, not just as her guide, but because I found my

Isn't that why I hired you and the rest of the cabinet to make sure the pack runs in the right order.” I growled not liking the tone she was using at me, “ What gives you the right to—” “Everything gives me the Right Alpha!” She interrupted. “While you were out of town sucking faces and playing house with your so-called m

118BeckyI drove hard, barely stopping to take a break, pushing myself, until white fire Lycan was far behind me. I look at the rear view I am greeted with nothing but orange-washed skies and an empty road fueling my need to get to purple pack at the earliest. It felt as though years had passed since I'd last been when it had barely been a month, during this time a lot has changed for me. I had fallen for someone who thought of me as a toy. A wave of sadness flushed through me at the memory. Gritting my teeth I pushed back the feeling about to consume me and focus on the road. This was not the time to think about men and their lying arses, I had a mission to complete and I needed all the focus I could get. The cold wind slid passed my windows, reminding me of the evening when I lay on the grass without a worry, but that could happen no longer until I settled my score with Alpha Daniel, my father, and his Wife. Valerie. It was time I got Answers and I couldn't wait for them.Just as

Pecan hissed, moving to leave but Zara followed blocking her part, “I just think it's funny you know?” she trailed off tapping her chin Pecan waited for a few moments before getting impatient with the red-headed girl, clenching her fist, “What's funny? What's so funny you won't get out of my way?”Zara doesn't take offense at her words, instead, her smirk blooms into a smile, her eyes narrowing on her prey, “I just think it's funny how Ella happened to enter the pack so easily you know? As fortified as our gates and all, she a lone female wolf with barely any power just somehow managed to waltz in without anyone being the wiser until it was too late.”Pecan ground her teeth, her palms were sweaty, and she didn't reply to Zara

Her blood boiled with rage, as Mondrian harsh words echoed through her head replaying at every step.“You are nothing Pecan, you can never compare to an inch of Celene, so get away from me before I make you pay.”How dare he! Mondrian had never spoken to her like that. Once upon a time, she had viewed herself aas s the Luna of the pack, he'd given her free range to do as she pleased and for a while, she revealed in it. And now he treated her as though she was nothing, as though she meant nothing all because of Celene.“That bitch!” She growled her voice echoing through the corridors, her voice loud and filled with spite yet she couldn't be bothered to lower them. Too angry to care. The gates to the dungeons come into view, in front of it we've stationed two guards dressed to the teeth in the armory, but she barely gave them a glace, blowing throug

CHAPTER 115 MONDRIAN POVThe door to my office opened, Alex walked in furious. “This is a mistake! You can’t let her go, She is all you have Mondrian do something.”“First of all, knock next time, secondly, I can’t do anything to change her mind, her mind is already made up” I tried to remain calm, and hope Alex doesn’t push me too hard, or else I might snap at him.. “There must be something you can do, maybe you did not beg her enough” he sounded desperate I know Alex was only trying to help, but he is pushing me to the wall, I have been trying to keep my cool, but I am almost at my breaking point right now. Taking a deep breath, I said. “If you were me, what would you have done huh!?”“Would you have wanted me to force her into staying here?” “Or maybe lock her in the cellar, and beg her to be mine before I release her?”“Do you think if there was anything else left, I would not have done it??” “It kills me,but I can’t force her to stay with me, or the curse would not be

114BeckyI walked out of the pack house with my head held high and my luggage rolling by my side. Zara stood by my side with a solemn expression.“Cheer up, Zara it's not like anybody died” I laughed, trying to cheer her up.“You are right. This is much more worse.” The laugh is been meaning to laugh turns into a dry chuckle before dying down into a sigh. She turned to me, “What happens next? Where will you go?”I shrugged at her words, looking away and into the horizon, “I'll make something up. I'm sure it will work out in the end.”“You can't put all your hope on fate Celene, “ she chastised, looking at me with anxiousness, “There is so much danger out there. You have to have a plan.”I chuckled, patting her shoulders, “It's okay I'm aware. I'll find a place to stay. I'm an adult I can take care of myself.”She hesitated, before heaving out a huge sigh, “Fine. If you say so.” she replied, swallowing what she had planned to sayI watched her expression switch with a myriad of emotio

She had to know! This is a matter of life—”“Shut your damn mouth,” I roared, interrupting his sentence, Alex frowns but keeps his mouth shut. “I told you to stay out of it. I'll handle it okay?”He shuffles for a while longer before expelling a long sigh, “If you say so, Mondrian. I'll listen. But she has to stay. She can't leave, we need—”“Okay!” Zara cut through whatever he had planned to say, and from his eyes, I knew he wasn't pleased by her interruption as she continued, “It looks like you both have a lot to talk about.” She gave me a pointed stare and I was grateful

Expressing a deep breath, he finally spoke, “Princess Celene I need to talk to you.”If there's anything you have to say, you can do it here. I have nothing to hide.” She answered folding away a piece of clothing, Alex's brows rose, his teeth gritting.“It's about the Alpha.” Celene's arms froze midway, and she slowly turned towards him, her voice cold and firm, “Then I have nothing to say to you. I've heard all I need to about Mondrian. I don't need you to tell me anymore.”Alex gritted his teeth, taking a step into the room, “You don't understand, Celene. This is important. 111 Celene My legs moved on their own accord taking me farther away from the crowd and into the west gardens, a place I’d passed through a few times to get away from the bustle of the pack. In its way, it was a haven, and the goddess knew I needed it now. I heard Mondrian call for me but I didn't answer, I cannot. Tears fall freely down my cheeks as thoughts of the past months flit through my mind like some horror movie. If everything Ella had said to be true then I truly had been betrayed by everyone I knew, my father, my friends, and now Mondrian. At the thought of him, my heart twinged with pain, and along with it came an anger that almost seemed to consume me, and I screamed, punching a tree trunk, “That bastard! He used me! He did this to me!” The more I shouted the more rage I felt, I had never felt this way for another person not for Violet Ella, or even my father, their betrayal I had always expected, but not from Mondrian. Not him. Why him? “Celene, calm down, let'

You come to my pack and accuse people. How dare you?” Her eyes widened in shock at the attack, Ella had never seen me get angry or use force, “it's true I'd never lie!” She shouted struggling against the guards “You have to listen to me Celene, Your so-called Alpha is the devil. He sent me after—” “Shut up!” Mondrian ordered shocking us both, confused I turned to find him glaring at Ella, “If you know what's good for you, then you better keep your mouth shut.” Ella laughed at his words, “or else what? You'll kill me? Maim me. Celene can't you see, he's threatening me to protect his image.” Confused I looked over at Mondrian, his eyes refusing to meet mine, but the trust I had for him was overwhelming scoffing I stepped away from Ella, “It's good to know that the leopard never changes its s
