Chapter 2

Sunny’s words made my heart tremble.

"Mom, no amount of wealth is more important than your health. You don’t have to go to the auction!"

Sunny's words warmed my heart, and I caressed my tummy, soothing him.

"Don't worry, I'll be prepared."

I really had no choice but to attend the auction. Because one of the organizers behind it was none other than my parents.

As their representative, I was expected to appear, and to bid on the family heirloom they had “generously provided”.

"Lucky, tell me. Will I be alright if I go?"

Lucky seemed to pause, as if caught off guard. For a long moment, he said nothing. Then, firmly, he said, "Sunny's lying! You definitely won't fall or get hurt if you go!"

With his reassurance, I felt slightly at ease.

The two voices contradicted each other so completely, so I had to figure out which one was lying!

Throughout the entire auction, my nerves were stretched to the limit.

Every step I took was slow and careful, inching forward bit by bit.

By the time the event neared its end, the heirloom was already in my possession.

On behalf of the family business, I donated the auction proceeds to charity.

Thunderous applause erupted from the audience.

Satisfied that the event had ended perfectly, I stood beneath the spotlight, elegantly raised my glass, and drank it in one go.

I didn’t expect that this single glass would turn me into a complete laughing stock.

The moment I swallowed the fruit wine, my throat began to itch before quickly tightening into suffocation. Red rashes spread over my neck and my back, but since the host was still delivering the closing speech on stage, I forced myself to endure the discomfort, maintaining a polite smile.

"Look on stage! She's got so many rashes… Could she have some kind of disease?!"

Someone shouted that out, instantly causing an uproar.

People began pointing at the exposed parts of my skin, throwing around words like AIDs and syphilis, their gazes filled with disdain.

I wanted to speak up, to stop them, but my throat felt as if it were stuffed with cotton.

Inside my womb, Sunny let out a cry, "Oh no, I'm allergic to mango too!"

I hadn't had the chance to comfort him before I passed out.

In my fading consciousness, I saw the crowd around me recoil as if I were something contagious.

My stomach slammed heavily against the floor.

When I opened my eyes again, I was already in the hospital.

My body felt weak, but I still grabbed the nurse beside me, asking urgently, "Is my baby alive?"

The nurse froze for a moment, before answering, "Your child's alright, but you went into anaphylactic shock. Luckily, you were brought in just in time.

"However, one of them seems to have inherited your allergy and is relatively weak. You’ll need to take good care moving forward."

I hurriedly called out to the babies inside me.

Lucky was still lively as ever, but Sunny’s voice was faint, weak, and drained.

Rage surged through me, and I mobilized my family’s resources to investigate the incident thoroughly, but no matter how deeply I dug, the result was always the same.

They said it was an accident.

An accident? I scoffed.

A man-made accident, maybe!
