Chapter 4 : New wave in my life (1)

“Thank you for coming with me.”

Cassandra felt nervous but her silly friends insisted on following her, letting her mind ease a bit.

“It’s been a while since the last time we had a trip, it could be our short vacation. Don't worry.”

Latisha yawns and smiles at Cassandra who looks pale. They finally arrive at the medical center, the small town looks lively. With less people than where they came from a day ago, but this place felt more warm and vibrant in the morning.

"Hey, wake up." Latisha pat Renee legs from outside the car window.

Renee makes a low groaning before pulling her hoodie covering her face and keeps her dream undisturbed in the back seat.

Cassandra closed the car’s door behind her and looked around, the small town smelled differently from the big city.

"I will wait for you there." Latisha saw a small cafe across the street and pointed her chin there.

"Take your time." The conversation was short but they both spoke more than enough.

Cassandra gave a simple nod to Latisha who looked calm. Only God knows how grateful she was to be blessed with such friends.

"Urgh. I hate this."

Like a dream, she suddenly arrived at the County Leon. Where the three friends drove more than 20 hours after she got the call from the unknown step-sister that she had.

She took a deep breath, pulled herself together and took steps forwards to the medical center main door.

Upon arrival, she saw a young girl being cornered and immediately recognised her. At the general medical centre, which has less than fifty people, it's not hard to find her younger step-sister.

She had the same auburn color of their mother’s hair after all. It hits her hard, since she only remembered so little of her appearance. But the situation was just as Shiloh told her through the phone.

Charlotte, the woman who gave birth to her. Raised her for ten years but soon left the young daughter she had and chased her own dream before marrying some wealthy man.

That very woman is now laying in the bed knocking on death’s door. Cassandra cannot help it but let out a soft sigh.

“Damn it.”

What's worse, Charlotte's husband's business partners were harassing their daughter for the right as their guardian if Charlotte died, while she was still breathing behind one of those yellow doors.

Every word from the bastard mouth makes her feel like there's a disgusting worm tingling inside her ears. Cassandra eyebrow arched, she saw Shiloh hands were trembling while biting her lower lips.

“Your mother will die soon. Use her thumb to stamp here. So you didn’t have to live in the orphanage.”

“Yeah, kiddo. You will be separated from your younger sibling if you are sent there. But you still can live together with him being your father.”

The two adult men shamelessly cornered her, one with a suit, looking neat with expensive shoes. While the other one looks like a labour worker who was suddenly dragged out by his employer when he was working.

Both of them were standing in front of Shilloh while her back was stiff against the cold wall. Some passerby scowled at them, and a nurse tried to interfere, reminding those men to stop but they just ignored them.

“Tsch, you cannot hide your wickedness in the small town.” Her steps are getting stronger with anger and frustration for so many reasons.

Everyone seems to know their true nature. While pretending to just look by in silence, Cassandra can see they were always ready to jump in if they crossed the line.

“What are you doing?”

Tired and annoyed, Cassandra couldn't help but her face hardened and her sharp threatening glare made the two adults take a step back.

"Not your business." The man with the suit, Steve, shoves Cassandra's shoulder with the leather porch he holds.

"Pathetic." Cassandra took a step forward and got in between them. Shielding the young girl with her body.

"What?" Steve breathes heavily as if holding in his rage.

"Shiloh." The cold hand reaches the red warm cheek.

Cassandra now stands facing the teen who tries hard to hold on to her tears. Waiting for some miracle that could save her from all this hellish dream. Cassandra once there at her age, she keeps peeking from the closed door of fate wondering if she could turn over the misfortune .

The teenage girl burst into tears. She heard her name called, she recognised the voice, suddenly the tears were too heavy for her eyes to hold.

"Big sister… they … are bad people."

All Cassandra could hear between her cries was a few words but she could fathom what she tried to tell her. Shiloh repeats the sentences, few more times while crying.

Shocked by the sudden burst of tears. The two men took steps back and stared at Cassandra. Their eyes showed their confusion and curiosity. Moreover, a hindrances show up making the attempt to conquer the fortune failed.

Looking at how the two men bewildered, Cassandra snatched the papers from their hands.

She chuckled in a cold way. "Guardian authorization?"

The impatient Steve finally lost his reason and grabbed Cassandra's wrist. He squeezed it as strong as he could, showing the mixed of power and brutality thinking Cassandra would succumb in fear.

“You must only develop your fist but not your brain.”

Her long leg raises, aiming to the sacred place for men. Realizing what Cassandra was thinking, Steve instantly takes both his hand covering the manhood, and Casandra stops her leg just under Steve’s hand.

“Pfftt…”

Not just her, but the people who are aware of the tension situation also found it hilarious. Some try to hide it with a satisfied smile but few are already laughing.

“I don’t know who you are. But this is not your fucking problem. Get the hell out of here.”

“Like I said earlier, you are really a pathetic loser.”

Steve raised his hand, his face becoming red with the anger inside him. But the hand stopped a few inches from Cassandra’s face when a voice raised behind him.

“Steve Dixton!”

Rough and anger was heard from an old man. He appeals sophisticated behind his plain blue shirt and black pants. There is something about him that makes people drawn to him and can’t help but be humble.

“How dare you.”

Stern but it sounds polite, different from what she had heard a few days ago.

It reminds Cassandra of Rowena Anderson and her mighty gesture before slapping Cassandra’s cheek for sleeping with her son.

This time those words were not for her but for the man who wanted to slap her a few minutes ago.

“Grandpa…”

Shiloh was now holding the old man's arm, her face looked much better.

‘You had grandpa.’

Cassandra felt like a burden was lifted, she doesn’t need to babysit anymore but not too long. The old man suddenly introduced himself as a lawyer for the family.

“You must be Cassandra Morgan, I am Christoper Wyatt. The lawyer of this family, a close friend of this family, and also the neighbour of this smart girl.”

Cassandra took the hand and shook it lightly.

“I believe there are so much things we need to discuss and why not go somewhere more comfortable.”

Cassandra put a friendly smile and nodded, she had a feeling he was trustworthy. Christopher glances at Steve and his friend.

“I don’t want to request a restriction order on you so please go home and behave Steve.”

“But Uncle…”

‘Uncle?’ Cassandra looked away and she met Shiloh's eyes. Shiloh is fascinated with the big sister she just met.

“I am so ashamed to have a nephew who was an idiot like you. Go home for now.”
