LOGINWhich she had no intention of doing, or she'd end up saying yes to his request. What she needed was a distraction. She’d be so busy tonight that she wouldn’t have time to think about David waiting for her in his home. All hot and naked and… No. She wasn’t going there.Around four, Tessa stomped into Pearl's office feeling twitchy and irritable. Since David had stormed back into her life and, even worse, into her bed, she’d been feeling this way a lot.“What’s up?” Pearl asked in surprise when Tessa let out a frustrated howl as she entered her friend’s private space.“We’re going partying tonight.”“We are?”It was a Friday, and a perfectly reasonable request, except that she and Pearl had never partied together before. She always did that with Olivia and Isabella. “Remember when you promised me a girls’ night out?”Pearl slapped a hand over her mouth. “Oh, my gosh, I did. I forgot.”“Well, we’re going to have it tonight.”“We are?” she repeated.“Yes. We are.”Pearl had appeared mildl
Olivia sighed and closed her eyes. A faint smile touched the corner of David's mouth as he looked between the two women. “Actually... it’s okay,” he said gently. “I understand. It’s... really nice to see that Tess has friends who are...” He paused, his eyes shifting from Olivia’s warm face to Isabella’s death glare. “...just as scary as she is. It makes a lot of sense, actually.”Olivia chuckled and Isabella glared at her, “What?” she whispered, “He’s funny.”David carefully extended his hands toward Olivia. “Could you... would you mind taking these to her?”“How lovely,” she said warmly, stepping forward to accept the sprawling bundle of flowers. The sweet fragrance of lilies instantly filled the entryway. “I’ll make sure she gets them.”“Thank you.” David swallowed hard, looking uncomfortable, his jaw flexed as regret filled his eyes. “Could you... please tell her that I’m sorry? I know she probably doesn't want to hear it right now—judging by the many unanswered messages I've sent
“I told you that guy was a walking red flag. I knew he’d hurt you again,” Isabella hissed, her heels clicking sharply against the hardwood floor. She was pacing the length of Tessa’s bedroom, her arms crossed tight over her chest. Beside Tessa, curled up on the edge of the mattress with a soft mug of chamomile tea between her hands, sat Olivia.“Calm down, Izzy,” Olivia said gently, setting her tea on the nightstand. “You sound even more pissed than Tess.”“Well, then she isn’t angry enough!” Isabella retorted, snapping her gaze toward the bed. “Because if a man hurled accusations like that at me, I'd be doing more than giving him a dirty slap!”Despite her mood, Tessa chuckled. Watching her two best friends rally around her—Isabella offering increasingly outlandish ideas for revenge while Olivia quietly provided comfort—made her feel much better. “It’s not even about that,” she said quietly, her voice raspy from a night of crying.Isabella stopped mid-stride, turning on her heel when
David had stopped blinking. To be honest, his mind had completely short-circuited and he hadn't heard a single word Tessa had said after the word ‘pregnant’. Nothing could have prepared him for that. His head was spinning wildly as a dozen devastating scenarios clashed in his mind. She had been pregnant? His brain reeled, trying to grasp the impossible math of it. So where the hell was the baby? His grip on her waist loosened, his fingers going limp before dropping heavily to his side, but he didn't step back. “I got you pregnant?” he asked, his voice barely a rasp.In all the time she had known him, Tessa had never seen David look so angry. The muscle in his jaw flexed so hard it looked painful, and his hand at his side clenched into a white-knuckled fist. He bit his lower lip, staring down at her with a mix of fury and confusion. Too bad, she thought, because If he was angry, she was incandescent, and now that she'd let it slip, she couldn't stop herself. “Yes, I was,” she spat, f
She glanced a bit shakily at him, as if his last statement was a double entendre. But she made her way to the bar and rattled around, searching for whatever he had available. She settled on pineapple juice. When she tried to return to her seat, he blocked her path, trapping her behind the bar.“What are you doing?” she asked.Being territorial, he thought. But he couldn’t seem to help it. Even if Tessa didn’t belong to him, he still couldn’t bear for her to be with someone else. And she should be with him damn it! She was his, even if she wouldn't fucking admit it to herself.“I’m not going to let you keep going out with those men.”She looked shocked for a second at his comment, then she glared at him, “You don’t have the authority to stop me. Now step back and let me pass. I already told you that I don't want to fight with you.”Too bad, because he was trying to egg her on, to make her feel what he was feeling. The rage. The hunger. The lust she was trying to avoid. The love he knew
“Oh, I will,” David said, “But shower first,” He lifted her in his arms and Tessa just let herself relax as he carried her off to the bathroom. He backed her toward the shower until they were standing beneath it. They kissed again, only longer this time, thriving on each other, washing each other's bodies as the water fell around them. “I want you again,” he said as he nudged her closer to the wall, out of the spray of water. He bent his knees, grasped her hips and thrust into her, moving at a thundering pace, making it seem as if there was no tomorrow. But maybe there wasn’t. Maybe there was only today: this hour, this minute, this second. He backed her into a corner to get more leverage. Tessa was pressed roughly against the wall. But she didn’t care. She liked the jagged feeling. Liked how roughly he took her. She wanted more, and so did he. He turned her around to face him, lifted her off the ground, and she held tight, with her legs wrapped around his waist and her arms looped
