Chapter Four
Stunned, Damien stared at her. Her head was wrapped completely in a bandage, her face was white and her lip pale, and there were cuts on it. He was puzzled. He thought she had been in a minor accident so why is she looking like she just survived world war 2? When Diego had called him that she had been involved in an accident, he wanted to go to the hospital because if his grandma gets wind of Lana beibg hospitalized, all hell will let loose. But Rina had held on to his cloth at that moment. "Please Dami, don't go. I'm scared" she had said, softly and feverishly. Her eyes were closed but tears still dripped out of them to soak her pillows. She was a very fragile person and had been seriously shaken when Lana had behaved like a rogue towards her. His heart hardened and he decided to stay with her. After all, he was sure Lana was just involved in a minor accident. "Just take her to the hospital! The doctors would take care of her" he had spoken harshly into the phone "Do not call me over this matter again." As he said those words, he failed to see the slight smile which curved Rina's lips. For she was awake and only putting up an act. He had taken care of her all day, however and forgotten about Lana but here she was in front of him, looking like death. She looked awful but that did not dim the fire in her eyes. She stared at him with hatred as he quietly excused himself from his group and walked towards her, cautiously. What was that she said? Divorce? She can't be serious but somehow, Damien was sure she was serious. Lana's formerly, calm and cowardly eyes were staring at him with so much hatred and fire, that he almost lost composure. As he walked towards her, a voice called out. "Lana, what are you doing here?" Lana turned to look at a middle aged woman who was dressed to the nines, in a beautiful red gown, with a full skirt that covered her feet. It was Vera, Damien's Mom. "They said you were at the hospital but you seem fine. You were never the most beautiful either, so it's okay" she walked up to her son, and stared at Lana as though she was something nasty. Vera had never really liked Lana. They were all enraged when Laura had brought in a nobody to be a part of their family. That's what they thought of her. A nobody with no family or background. She was just a poor aide that took care of rich people and somehow deceived Laura into making Damien marry her. Lana's face darkened immediately, when she saw that Vera was linking arms with Rina, who was looking like a flower petal at that moment, dressed in an exquisite white dress, with thin shoulder straps and a flared skirt which stopped just above her knees. Lana was very conscious of the fact that she looked like a mess but she didn't care. It's not like she'll ever be the centre of Damien's attention. Rina's eyes glittered with malice and mockery as she glanced at Lana but she quickly masked it as she walked up to Damien and linked arms with him also. "Dami!" She laid her head on his shoulder and gave Lana a petulant look. "Why are you out in the cold, Rina?" Damien quickly pulled off his suit jacket and draped it over Rina's shoulder. "I just wanted to see you" She sniffled and cuddled up to him, still casting malicious glances at Lana but Lana looked like she didn't give a damn. "But it's not safe. The doctor said you should be more careful." "Oh come on dear, we are still in the estate" Vera piped in "There's nothing wrong in coming out to see your fiance. You both look good together. You ought to be with her instead of a gold digger who is also a nobody." She said that last bit, looking pointedly at Lana. Vera had hated her mother inlaw when she brought in this poor aide to marry her precious son. She was of a long line of aristocrats and she wished for Damien to marry into money and wealth just like their family. Even though Rina's family was not as wealthy as theirs, she was still the one Damien preferred and Vera accepts her because she was an outstanding fashion designer and was valuable to their company, which was a fashion and entertainment company. Lana, on the other hand, was nothing but a gold digging poor aide. Vera would not let this nasty thing destroy her son's happiness. Damien was silent as he watched Lana with narrowed eyes. He saw that she had no reaction to what his mom said. From all indications, it seemed as though she was deaf from the way she was staring at them, indifferently. He had expected her to turn into a blubbery mess at the mention of that word. After all, she brought this all on herself but the gaze she was giving them was just cold. Wait, was she serious about the divorce? She had got to be joking. His fists clenched into balls at his side as he remembered what Rina had told him, when he eventually found her after three years. He knew now why his grandmother had insisted on them getting married. It was not because she had saved his life. Rather, it was because Lana manipulated his grandma into it. She was obsessed with him and used that to blackmail Rina, which led her to leaving the city. Grandma even went as far as saying, he can only have his inheritance, if he married her and bore a child through her. Which he knew would never happen, because he had never touched her and he would never touch her. And now, here she was acting all righteous and seeking a divorce? She had got to be joking. "I've had enough of this shit" she finally spat out through gritted teeth. "Go home, Lana" Vera said, her dark eyes looking at her with impatience and derision. There's no place for you here! You're embarrassing the family." Lana scoffed, and this attitude made Vera frown. They were treating her as though she wasn't there, as though she wasn't a human being with feelings, that bitch was caressing her husband up and down. And her mother-in-law, rubbing it in her face that she'd never be Damien's lover. She can't stand the sight, anymore. She felt weaker as she beheld them, and she seemed more pale than ever "You think about what I said, Damien Romero." With that, she turned on her heel to walk out on them but she had not taken a step when a huge pole which connected wires, on which beautiful lanterns were hung around the garden, fell with a loud creak. Everyome screamed and shrieked as they watched the pole descend. Lana gasped in horror, her eyes widening in fear as the pole decended but she was not quick enough to move out of the way. She saw from the corner of her eyes as Damien launched himself at Rina, covering her with his entire body and her heart ached as she closed her eyes, waiting for the impact of the pole on her head. It would be better to just die. She could not take it anymore. If she had known love would be this painful, she never would have ventured into it. Suddenly, there was stunned silence. Lana opened her eyes, after waiting for a few minutes and nothing happened. Suddenly, she became acutely aware of a strong surface. She was being held against a strong body. Stunned, she looked up into beautiful green eyes, covered with long lashes. A beautiful man, with long black hair, sensual green eyes, and thin lips was holding her up by the waist, against himself. Lana wondered if she was actually dead and this was an angel guiding her towards heaven but that was not the case. Shortly before the impact, he had grabbed her quickly out of the way and almost gotten crushed by the pole. Lana was shaking terribly, from the realization that she almost lost her life and the pain of seeing that her so-called husband had not even tried to save her. Suddenly, her legs could no longer hold her up. She felt the floor give way beneath her and she fainted.Chapter Five Damien paced up and down the hallway, outside the hospital room. He could not understand why he was so agitated but there was something about seeing your wife, unconscious, in a dead faint and also in another man's arms. It rattled him. Her white face and limp body had scared him as he watched the man carry her in his arms, bridal style. He stopped pacing and looked ahead, his brows coming together in a huge frown and a sour taste came into his mouth, as he stared at the man who had saved his wife. Zaire Ludovic. C.E.O of SERENE, A MultiBillion-dollar Fashion and Entertainment Company and one of the top rated fashion company in Emerald City. He was Damien's biggest Rival. The Romero family owned MAGIC, another top rated fashion and Entertainment company in the City. It had been in the family for years and was the source of all their wealth. The MAGIC group had other subsidiaries in other industries - Retail, Education, Manufacturing, Sports etc but MAGIC Touch,
Chapter Six "We gather here in loving memory of our beloved sister, Laura Penelope Romero..." Lana sat very straightbacked, the pew hard beneath her as the priest went on. The entire church was so silent that if a pin dropped, the sound would bounce off the walls. Laura was dead. Laura, the one person who had been in support of her marriage to Damien. Laura, who had been like a mother to her this past three years. Laura, the only reason she was still holding on. Lana took a deep breath, as she fought back tears, which stung her eyes, and threatened to fall at any moment. She was seated among the other callers, while Rina sat with her husband and his family, in the pew reserved for families. Lana didn't mind. She had deliberately separated herself from them, and even though she was occasionally receiving dark stares from Damien, she would not budge. Finally, everyone filed out of the church, and the coffin was placed in the freshly dug hole in the ground. There were sniffle
Chapter Seven "Lana, is that you?" Samuel Fernandez's deep voice came through the phone. It was filled with awe. He could not believe he was talking to his daughter, after three good years. He stood up, as though in slow motion and held up his hand. In an instant, the entire boardroom in which seventy shareholders were sitting became silent. They watched him in shock, as he walked towards a window, his face filled with glee at the call which he received. They had all been in the midst of a serious meeting when he had that call but now, he was not in the mood to listen to them anymore. However, at the sound of his voice, after so many years, something came over Lana, and she crumbled immediately. The tears fell in torrents down her face, and she made no effort to wipe them away as she walked down the Lane leading to the gates guarding Reign Estates. Bodyguards stared at her as she passed, shocked to see her crying but she did not care. She had missed her father so much. Why had
Chapter Eight "Please, call me Zaire." Zaire placed his right hand in the small of Lana's back she tried to lead her away to his car, and away from the rain. The car was sitting in the rain, a gleaming Bentley, and the driver stood outside, taking shade under a black umbrella while waiting for them to approach, so he can open the door for them. Lana stopped and stared into Zaire's eyes. His green eyes held a light that bespoke kindness, and there was a gentleness behind his touch. He had told her to call him,"Zaire" thereby putting them on a first name basis. Lana stared at him, unsure if she wanted to venture into this new path. Suddenly, something occurred to her, and she looked closely at him, her eyes narrowed with curiosity, "What are you doing here?" She asked, indicating the huge gates behind her which signified the Romero's Reign Estates. "Did you come to call on the family?." Zaire smiled, showing perfect white teeth, "That would be unheard of" he answered, a lazy s
Chapter NineThe party boarded the helicopter, and it took off.Diego was numb with shock. He kept glancing at Lana, but somehow he could not say anything to her.He was especially scared of the dignified man who sat with the pilot in front, and he held his peace.Paul was her father, Samuel Fernandez's chief assistant, which was why he was entrusted the task of bringing the young Miss home.He looked stern, and had a face that screamed no-nonsense but was infacet a very softspoken person. He had not said anything when Lana boarded with Diego. She only said he was her person, and was with her and that reassured Paul. Finally, the helicopter finally landed at an airport, and the party came down.Diego could still not close his mouth, and his eyes widened all the more when he saw the private jet, sitting regally and looking spectacular. The party walked briskly towards it, the bodyguards flanking Lana on both sides, and soon they were ensconced in the private jet which took off into the
Chapter Ten"Miss, the chairman asked if you would honor dinner with your prescence." The maid stood just outside the door to the balcony, and said in a respectful voice."He has a special guest he wishes to introduce to you."Lana stood outside on the balcony of her bedroom, looking down on the vast land of the Fernandez's Estate. It stretched for miles, and there were several other buildings in the Estate, both residential and non residential. At the sound of the maids voice, she turned away from the view to call out her reply."Alright, tell him I'll be down in a short while." She flashed a brilliant smile at the maid, who bowed respectfully at her then exited the room.As the maid left, Lana turned back to the view which she had been enjoying. She lifted her face up into the sky, and inhaled deeply. The morning sun warmed her face and the gentle morning breeze, ruffled her hair, bringing with it the scents of the beautiful flowers, which were planted everywhere across the estate.
Chapter Eleven"I'm going back to Fashion Designing!"Lana looked at her father, her face lit with pleasure ,as she thought about what she had just said.It was time to rediscover herself and, get the old Lana back. She would go back to fashion designing, and make a name for herself just like her mother had done."But Lana, you only just got back! Don't you think you need to rest a while?" Samuel said, worried that she would stress herself.Lana shook her head as she stood up, carrying the box carefully, and placed it back in the walk-in closet."I've made up my mind, Father" she replied, as she walked back to his "its time to go back to my former self, to how I was before I..."She hesitated, reluctant to say anything but the next words her father said startled her."Before you met the Romeros." Her father completed for her grimly, and Lana's eyes went wide with surprise. In the next instant, however, she sighed wearily as she walked to sit back to the vanity table."How did you know
Chapter TwelveFive Years LaterThe sky was blue and the wind soft, as it carried the smell of the clean grass and flowers through the garden.Damien walked through the garden holding Lana, a satisfied and relaxed smile on his face. Lana held a baby in the crook her arms. It was their child. They were together forever. She looked up at him and smiled contentedly, and he had never felt as happy as he did in that moment. But suddenly, the garden was no longer a garden, the blue sky turned dark with gray clouds and lightning raced across the gray storminess, and Lana was no longer by his side.He squinted, looking into the distance, trying to make out her figure standing far away from him, phantom and ethereal."Lana!" He called out, yelled as he desperately tried to move his feet so he can return to her side. But the grasses suddenly grew taller with amazing speed, and around him, blocking his sight and seeming to choke him.The last thing he saw as the grasses closed to round him, wa
Chapter Two Hundred And Thirty-ThreeThe discovery of the siphoned goods and the part Noah played in the big reveal spread like wild fire across the company.Everyone marveled at how he was able to pull it off himself. It was said that the reports he provided made the internal audit to move more smoothly than ever. The audtors knew where to go, who to ask questions, what questions to ask based on what Noah had provided. This earned him considerable respect in his department as well as the company. The golden haired mystery man was not as dumb as every one thought he was.Infact, he was being accorded honor by the regional head, who made sure every thing was done to the letter, following Noah's instructions."We cannot misuse such valuable information. Its time to fish out those perpetrators and clease out Romero Solutions," The regional head had declared before he gave Noah a determined look, "If this turns out successful, headquarters will be really pleased with you, Noah."And that
Chapter Two Hundred And Thirty-TwoThere was stunned silence in the Regional Head's office as Noah made that statement."Wh...what did you say?" The regjonal.head asked in shock and disbelief, "The batches for the deluxe products are being siphoned?! By who?"The regional Head voice was rising by the minute, and his hands curled into fists on his seat."I don't know about that, sir." Noah said, carefully choosing his words else he let something slip.He did not intend to reveal the one behind the crime, mainly because he did not know who the mastermind was.Secondly, he had no evidently of the ones he suspected. These little details will be brought to light when the Regional Manager sets the auditing team to work."When I noticed a pattern of weight discrepancies as well as other inconsistencies in the record, I had to check for myself." He continued but was stopped by Fred."What do you mean, inconsistencies?" The man asked, "What did you discover in the records?,""There were a lot
Chapter Two Hundred And Thirty OneGary quickly rushed after her before she could get to the door and drew her back sharply."Hold on, you little bitch," He snarled as he accidentally grabbed her hair as well and pulled her back.Maya winced in pain as she felt strands of her hair being pulled from the scalp, "Ow!" She cried out in agony, "Let me go. At once!""Not until you explain what you mean by that little statement which you just uttered," Gary fired back heatedly."I meant exactly what I said, you piece of trash, " Maya said as she mustered her energy and stomped on his toe with her heeled foot."Ahh!" Gary cried out in anguish as pain exploded in his foot. He let go of her hair at once and doubled over in pain, trying to hold his throbbing toe but it was much too painful.Maya, seeing as she was free from his hold, turned back and stared at him in disdain, "You think I won't take protective measures for myself? You've got to be joking, Gary." She spat out, "You take care of an
Chapter Two Hundred And Thirty "Something of utmost importance?" The Regional Head repeated in puzzlement, "What could that be?"Maya's heart slammed in her chest as she heard Noah say those words. Franticaly, she glanced at Gary who had also gone a little pale.A look of terror passed between them and they immediately knew what the important news Noah had for the regional head was."Stop him!" Maya seemed to say with her eyes, glaring at Gary and making motions with her head towards Noah. She was so agitated that she could not stand still. She had been so eager to want to leave this place earlier but now she wouldn't leave for all the world. She had to stay to hear what Noah had to say to the Regional Head.Quick as flash, Gary stepped in between the Regional Head and Noah.Smiling nervously, he started speaking, "Regional Head sir, why don't you allow the Senior sales manager to take you to his office, while you wait for the reports on the audit?" He turned and nodded to Fred, who
Chapter Two Hundred And Twenty Nine"Infact, these has got to be the best results I've ever seen in a while."Everyone stared in amazement at the Regional Head.He was giving Noah a warm and approving smile, while patting him heartily on the arm."You say they are the best reports that you've ever seen?" Fred asked as he stepped closer to the Regional Head."But that's inpossible," Gary uttered through gritted teeth, "He has no qualifications. How is he able to prepare the best reports you've ever seen?"Everyone almost groaned in annoyance at Gary's stupidity and shamelessness.Maya rolled her eyes and stomped her foot impatiently on the marble floor. It was bad enough to stand here like some kind of lackey, and watch the regional director do his job but now she had to listen with her heart in her mouth, hoping that Gary does not let any information slip."He talks too much," she thought angrily, biting her lower lip in annoyance, "if he dares to say anything concerning the deluxe pr
Chapter Two Hundred And Twenty EightJaws dropped in shock as Noah stepped out of the throng of employees and stood directly in front of the Regional head.Everyone was shocked at his boldness. This was a chance for him to make his escape and blame the superiors for giving him such an important task.He was not that learned nor did he have much qualifications. They knew that, yet he was still asked to prepare the reports in such a short time.Although he did not have much chance of defending himself, since he was a lower level employee, yet the Regional head was known to be fair to others not on his level. He hated any sort of unfair practice and he would definitely side with Noah if he revealed he had been pressured into making the reports.Yet, Noah had come out boldly, as if he was ready to take the fall, the consequences of making such sloppy reports."He's done for," Greg sighed in despair, watching Noah with pitiful eyes."He really is just a golden haired dumbass," Jason agreed
Chapter Two Hundred And Twenty SevenThere seemed to be a shift in the air as the regional head uttered those words.Fred immediately turned to Gary who had provided the reports from Noah.Within seconds, the report was in the senior sales manager's hands, and Fred passed it onto the Regional head."Here you go, sir." He said, "Everything has been prepared for you. We can send the shipment right away of you want."Very calmly the man took hold of the reports and went through it. The Vulcan reports were supposed to cover every detail of a huge shipment which was being sent out in a month's time. The regional head aimed to start from the report because whenever there was a big shipment such as this one, there was always one problem or the other.Whenever huge contracts like this one was given to the company, the regional manager makes sure to come down to Crestview and oversee everything himself. Now everyone, including Noah waited with bated breaths to see how he would react to the r
Chapter Two Hundred And Twenty Six"What?"Gary started asking but then a telephone began ringing loudly on one of the desks in the office and a colleague picked it up."Hello? really?!" The man looked alarmed. He nodded frantically as he ended the call, and looked at them all, "The Regional Head is here!"There was a general wave of murmurs and a flurry of movement occurred as everyone arranged their works, and gave their repirst last minutes touches.Gary glared at the man who had announced the Regional Head's arrival. The little fool had announced it before he even had time to think of his next plan. He turned back to Noah, who was giving him a calm look, his face devoid of any sort of emotion.Gary wagged his fingers ar him, "No games from you." He gritted, "If you try to pull a quick one on me in front of the Regional Head, I'll make sure it boomerangs on you."There was a bit of silence after that statement where both men just stared at each other, quiet hatred and fury simmer
Chapter Two Hundred And Twenty FiveNoah stared him down calmly, even though he was boiling with rage inside, "Where is what?""Where is the freaking file?!" Gary screamed as he flung all the reports to the ground in one swift move of fury.Noah bounded to his feet in anger, "Gary!" He yelled, "Enough of this!"Gary was stunned but in the next minute he burst into a ridiculous laughter at Noah's audacity. "Look at him," he laughed, pointing at Noah's enraged face, "he's yelling at me! Wow, you must have some guts now because of what you discovered, right?"At that moment, Noah leaned forward to say in his ears, "Yea, that's exactly what's up."As those words left Noah's lips, Gary froze on the spot. He had not exactly believed Noah had the file even after Maya told him so but now he did.He was not a man of weak spirit but as soon as he heard those words from Noah, he knew without a doubt that he was doomed. This golden haired gigolo really did have the file.He stared at Noah in h
